So I have the option for both the 8’s and the 10 but am a ways off from the 12 (I’m at about 84k). Also given the changes to the tournament payouts and the weekly chest deal nerf ( no more purchases for a bit) it’s gonna be a challenge to get more than one for many months; truth be told I’m close to a month away from enough A coins for any one of the three, as I have just made the jump to lv 4 w most of my mechs and weapons.
My question is, what is the general consensus on which one to get first? I’m leaning towards saving and waiting on the single 12 and just making due w what I have for the present.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess I should have added this info. Is there a big enough difference between the two to warrant buying both?

I use my Carb 8s more and am more likely to equip them over the PC 8s. Carbs are more "bursty".
I also like mixing the PC 8s and the Carb 8s on two different bots... the difference in optimal range for both weapons, and firing characteristics, helps give you a bit more flexibility on who and where you can attack. I will especially do this when I am running both the Ares and the Juggs, and the map doesn't let me use Javs.
Are they a must-have item if you already have well leveled PCs? No.
Is it a waste if you already have PC8s? Absolutely not.
I wish there was a way to test them out so you could get a feel for them, but overall the two weapons are more different than the same. If you are being miserly with your resources to the point of only spending on "sure things", then maybe hold off... but if you want options that can carry you through to the end-game, then I say go for it. The more good weapons I have to outfit my loadouts, the better, in my PoV.
EDIT: Give them a bit of time to get used to them... it's hard to not think of them like PC8s when you first get them, and they don't have the same feel or optimal range as PCs. Carbines hit better in CQB (30m or less) but are still effective a good bit further out. PCs are optimal to 60m, but still do some good work a bit further out. They have different unload times... too... you will go though a Carb mag about 2x as fast as PCs. This takes a little bit to find the proper tactics to best employ them.
EDIT 2: Old-Cat My PC8s are R5 and are pretty accurate out to 60m... for clarification in lieu of the below post.

Is there a big enough difference between the two to warrant buying both? Carbs come at R5, and are better than PC8's at R4. PC8's have a higher optimal range but you're not hitting much at that point, whereas I can hit pretty accurately w/ Carbs out to there. I imagine if PC8's are R5, the difference will be less noticeable, but personally I still prefer the carbs b/c they unload in 5s, PC8's take 9. With all that being said, carbs outshine PC8's in tourney in every possible way, you want to unload fast b/c 2m rounds go by very quickly.

i would go straight for the Carb 12 if you already have R4 PC8s and are F2P or on a budget. Carb 8s aren't really worth the 5700 acoin difference of taking the PC8s to R5.

I agree with the Carb12 purchase. It works in combo on my Rank 4 Panther with MR8 and can go on my Rank 5 Killshot with a TL6. I imagine it also can work on the Panther, Guardian, and Paragon at Rank 4 with RM8 and Rank 5 versions of these mechs with RM12. Once the Carb12 gets ranked up, you'll have two of those bad boys!
