My submissions:
Alien/Aliens (especially Aliens, but watching the first flick for the back story helps a lot) Forbidden Planet (especially for it's time) Avatar (in 3D, oh yeah!) The Incredibles (because, well, this movie goes on all my lists even RomCom and Horror) "Where is my super suit!" 2001 (for it's "hard" SF quality)
So many others, I just thought I'd start the discussion...

I don't have a purist or snobby attitude towards movies... so some of these may not be good to folk who are... but I like them for various reasons, some for nostalgia, some for the great story, some for the mind warp, others for fan service... etc. No particular order.
All the ones you list... plus:
Prometheus (Hell... any of the Alien, Predator, or AvP franchises is fine with me... even the cheesy ones)
Event Horizon
The Abyss
Heavy Metal (both the classic first one, and the not so classic sequel... IDC I like them both.)
Galaxy Quest
The first 3 Star Trek movies
The Black Hole
The original Star Wars trilogy
Solo (yes I actually really dug that one... screw the critics)
Rouge One
All of the R i d d i c k movies... but Pitch Black most assuredly.
There are more but work has me scrambling this morning...

titandoGattaca: Nice choice. Great social commentary as well. Quite prescient for it's time.

In no particular order
Predestination (2014) - The end is a mind f*** galore courtesy of Robert Heinlein 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)- It's Kubrik, nuff said. Blade Runner (1982) - Great material and probably the most beautiful pre-CGI film ever made. Annihilation (2018) - More than just cool visuals, a great story The Thing (1982) - A sort-of remake of a 50's movie, just better all-around ever with they gorey visuals 28 Days Later (2002) - This gets an honorable mention as a plausible (to me) doom-and-gloom film that doesn't reach too hard into what' we could be doing in labs
Sci-Fi movies as a whole have gotten so much better than they were when I was a kid (dark ages)

Thanks for the tip! I'll try to check it out soon. Annihilation: I think I need to see it again. It left me a little flat. Creepy for sure. Ending predictable.

I would put Serenity on my list, if only because it was a great way to tie off the Firefly series that ended way too soon.
Ahh, the Alien series...perfect example of a great SciFi series that screwed the pooch with later installments. For me, the series ended with Aliens.
Alien vs Predator - great first movie, awful sequel that was just a gorefest.
Predator 1 and 2. The third movie, Predators was also great, but that last one...The Predator...shudder...
I don't list the Star Wars movies cause they're technically Space Operas... but I'm generally a fan of the movies as a whole, but there are definitely lots of cringe worthy moments in them.
Star Trek...honestly, the only movie I really liked was Wrath of Khan as thats the only one that really stuck with me, and that's because Ricardo Montalban was so amazing. The reboot of that...it was only ok for me, even though I really like Benedict Cumberbatch.
Avatar - I loved this visually stunning movie...but the script left a lot to be desired. Honestly, I thought I was watching Dancing with Wolves but with giant blue people. I could predict everything that would happen in the movie before it happened. The movie basically wrote itself, but I think it's a good example of lazy writing cause the writers could have done so much more.
Matrix - of course. But man, they could have done a better job with that third movie to explain it better. I feel they focused too much on the action and could have rounded off the story better.
Inception - can't offer too many critiques on this one as it's near perfect.
The Abyss - another near perfect movie. Gotta watch the Director's cut though as it makes a bit more sense.
I've been trying to watch the Dust channel on Youtube as much as possible. Lots of great SciFi stories there.

Agree with most of these. Only one not mentioned that's in my personal top 10 is Stargate. 2 of the 3 spin off series are probably in my top 10 for tv as well... Liked SG1 more than the original movie
Good hunting

Starship Troopers
Ender's Game (no the movie isn't as good as the book... but it's close enough)
Alita: Battle Angel (was a bit surprised by this one... was pretty good)
Elysium
War of the Worlds (yes the Tom Cruise version... I liked it)

Last Starfighter Big Hero 6 (I’m a grandpa) Edge of Tomorrow Original Roller Ball The Martian It Conquered the World (black and white version) The Matrix (only the first one)
Aliens and Avatar are my No 1 and 2
I am really, really, really hoping the new Dune movie is good! One of my all time favorite books but the movies have been pathetic!

Most of mine have already been said and I'll concur in no order
Interstellar. The Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back. Rogue One. Solo. Rollerball (original) Matrix. There is only one, the first plus my wife is in it. Judge Dredd the newer one. Galaxy Quest. Pacific Rim. Salute of the Jugger. Starship Troopers. Inception. Alien, Aliens. Cloverfield (not sure if this is sci-fi)
There's probably more but these are the ones I can watch multiple times.
On tv.
Black Mirror (most episodes) Mandalorian The Expanse (first couple of seasons before it went to Bezos) The Orville. They do Star Trek better than Star Trek can do Star Trek.

All of Warner's 2021 movies will be available for streaming on HBO Max.

Under the Skin and Beasts of the Southern Wild (technically sci-fi)
I saw 2001 when I was 4 1/2 years old and it set the template for what I consider sci-fi. Many of the examples here, like Star Wars, isn’t sci-fi at all, it’s just fantasy to me. And Beasts doesn’t really meet my criteria but I love that movie so much.

Jupiter Ascending Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (just funny...and Alan Rickman as a robot voice.) Brite (more fantasy than sci-fi) X-men (original cast) Dune (they did a LOT with that given the time period...and remember, the novel is HUGE and covers a lot of story and backstory...good cast) Battle Across the Stars (might be wrong on the title... it's Magnificent 7 meets Star Wars...Robert Vaughn as a space fighter pilot) Outland (Sean Connery as a marshall on a mining colony on the moons of Jupiter) Red Dwarf (just funny...check your mind at the door) League of Extraordinary Gentleman. (Whole cast is great...until agent Tom Sawyer shows up, but the rest of the cast carry him.) Inception Doom

In addition to some of the above, couple come to mind. Sunshine Dune tv miniseries from 2000, that was surprisingly good. Never liked the Lynch version. The Fountain Ghost in the shell Edit: waiting for the Foundation, hoping it wont be horrible...
