So, just had a Tournament game where I killed 5 mechs with one magazine on my Shadow. All were fairly low health and they were clumped together by that side entrance to the kill square. The first 2 died from my first blast, and the other 3 were right in the doorway. I lucked out in that I got their backs while they couldn't move much, but I was still surprised by the Multi Kill.

what level are your shotguns? mine seem like pea shooters R4.1 right now. The rank up really helped, but right now, I don't see a point to bring it to 4.2.

Hijacking thread for a minute. I see things like weapons 4.1....Does that mean 4 stars lvl1?

Agree with what's been said, R4-ed my SGs and my Shadow and they both surprised me.

ⓣⓡⓘⓒⓚⓨ48 tournament ends early enough this week for me to have the power hour deadline grind instead of driving myself mad over insomniac Ruskies. Dropped into a few CPC games against 2k AI with it, and it's hilarious. It's better at killing the R4 Killshots and light mechs(which have more health than the tournament AI Jugs) than straight MR, when in range. Like I said, today's map is the death pit. There's going to be tons of room for collateral as long as I dodge the first volley down the center hallway. Same cons the shotgun normally has, but the faster cycle time pinches out just a bit more damage in range before the MR would be ready again. I played it like a Long Arm+MR combo, where I'd only shoot the longer range weapon until I was in shreking range. Remember, none of my mechs are R4. While it deals more damage per mag than double MR6, it's still less than dual MR8s. I can totally see myself using MR6+SG4 or MR8+SG2 on rank 4 Shadow. Edit: And yes, when I said I'm upgrading everything evenly, that means the 2EN weapons as well. Carb 10+ Auto/SG2 or Carb8+Auto/SG4 looks like it will be fun on light mechs. If I use Railgun on mediums, I'll be getting mileage out of RPG2. If I want to inflict cruelty on to strangers, Stasis 16+TL2 on a fat mech seems to be the way to go. I aspire to be the guy that rarely has the same hangar from day to day when there are significant amounts of players in matches.

I actually tried the SG 4 + MR6 on my Shadow last night after seeing your first post... It's fun as hell even on today's map. Maybe not as viable since there is more room for Mid Range on this map, but it worked fine. I did the same thing... MR until I could close the range, then all or nothing. I dig it. It's staying equipped like that for now. Now... I wouldn't have even considered the 2 + 8 combo... I will leave that one to you to research

I got 5 kills with sg4 last night in one round and I was proud of myself. ;-) I got about the same in more rounds after that. Was much fun. I will try out that sg and mr build on Shadow. It's one of my favorite bots.

I've been having a great time with SG4 on Lancer (Rank 3). Most of the time I die really quickly, but I blame that more on my skill than on the setup. When I'm really focussed and playing at my best I can get some excellent kill streaks.
Compared to Shadow, the big pro is the jump ability allowing you to sneak around on elevated locations of the map and shoot at people's heads, or vice versa sneak under some overhead cover and jump up and shoot at the back of a robot directly above you. However, since the Lancer lacks the stealth ability, on certain maps it's much harder to flank the enemy because they can get line of sight easier.
I bet Javs would be more effective on Lancer but I have much more fun with Shotguns.

I bet Javs would be more effective on Lancer but I have much more fun with Shotguns. My favorite map for Lancer is Neo Hokkaido. I usually head straight down that middle alley and start shooting at the first red that’s inevitably headed for the center CP. as soon as my clip runs out, I jump on the roof to the left and duck out of his line of sight. Once I’m reloaded I drop back down and fire away, then rinse and repeat. It doesn’t last long if a second red shows up, but it’s a blast if you have a teammate in the vicinity. It’s even more annoying if you have javelins on the Lancer - you never have to come down off the roof. I’ve jumped around from one rooftop to another trolling the crap out of reds like that.
