So I was thinking myself, will the new mini-Orkan A.K.A Pinata outclass the use of Aphids on DB's after the new mechanic comes to live server? I'm working on my Stuka Griffin right now leveling him up to 9, my Aphids are still 5 so I need to know some opinions from others since I'm unsure if I should level them up or another set of Pinatas.

The beauty of Aphids has always been the ability to lob them from cover to soften up your opponent. That won't change with the upgrade to the pinata mechanic.

What's the Pinata's new buff going to be? Pinatas, Tulumbas and Pins are going to reload just like Orkans, and also their designs changed as well in the most recent test server version.

Zombie BBQ The mechanic being tested is for fire while reloading. Kinda like how orkans already do. Supposed to be the pinatas, CRV pins and Tulumbas' that are getting the new doins. But it's still only test server, right now. Edit: beat me to it, Ninja. Pretty...Ninja...haha

don't like the new design as they are too similar. you won't be able to tell the new designs apart from 500m out on a phone screen. (I'm already finding it hard to tell tulumbus at 500m away my bad eyes...

You can tell if a Griffin is equiped with Tulu's or Pinata's just watching their behavior, DB's tend to be much more agressive in how they jump & stay in cover. Edit: Paps Gotta honor the nick you know =) Just some random question, do you play solo? See you are Diamond, I'm too tired of playing alone and most of the times I need to work on carrying them heh, I'm looking for a duo.

Yes, Pinatas probably will win.
From my experience, Aphids no longer reliably go over any obstacle, and seem to often do no damage when they hit.
Aphids are becoming frustrating and I'll be switching to the reloading pinatas.

I'll be sticking with aphids. Poppin' em over cover is too handy. Especially at the apex of a Griffin's jump. Good for putting the hurt on wall huggers.

I never used Aphids before, they seem to miss so much that the higher theoric DPM seems to not be practicable.

So if it's the orkans you see, it's going to be either piñata or aphids. So you have to judge it by that now. I don't like how they changed the look though. I like my CRVs looking a toolbox lol.

I have one Griffin Aphids and one Griffin Pinata, cannot decide? I have both too, but one is not leveled enough. I was thinking of running both with Pinatas if this upcoming update indirectly weakens Aphids too much.

Played with them a week ..Sold them ..Lol the damage they were doing was not that great in my opinion .. only missiles that seem worth it to me are Pinatas at knife fighting range.. but that's just my play style I guess. ? EDIT: this buff when and if it comes will change my Leo setup again ... Used to run Thunder / 3x Pinatas .. but with the new Punisher buff I have been running 3x Punishers with great effect.. might try 2x punisher 1 Pinata..

Aphids *were* great. They'd fly up and over obstacles before smacking someone in the face.
Of course, it was a bit OP'd and was nerfed. :-)
But now they barely generate an arc so are almost "line of sight" weapons.
Even then, they seem to sometimes hit and not do damage. I swear I had six direct hits which did no damage in one match yesterday from my triple-aphid Gepard (I had the "light bots" missions). I know the damage can be mitigated by bots jumping, or moving transversely, but these hits were ones I would expect to do severe damage.
Oh well. I don't run the Gepard much anymore, but this experience, and the change to Pinatas will probably result in me switching my ADB to a standard DB.

DB Griffin finally can continuesly shoot 4 missiles after the DB button, has higher chance to bring down the almost dead red.

I bought Aphids and was a bit disappointed. It's an alright weapon, but I find myself preferring Pinatas.
With the Pinata buff, it will become a non-brainer for me. Pinata > Aphid.
It's odd considering Aphids cost gold and Pinata silver. Something's wrong here.

I have a DB Griffin and a plasma Griff. I'll be keeping the ork/pinata setup on one but have been planning for a while to switch the mags off of the other and put a couple of retired aphids on (once I have a chance to upgrade them a bit) as I think they give a decisive advantage on Dead City and Power Plant. The proposed change to pinatas hasn't changed my thinking on that front as the two weapons have quite different mechanics and I like a mixed hangar - jack of all trades, master of none!

Aphids I do find worthwhile but only in places. Yamantau I always bring them out. Same with dead city.
Even if only line of site they can be worthwhile.

I run both at reasonable levels and this is my opinion they are a bit too different once you get proficient at both. Aphids let you shoot a little more often, from plasma standoff distance. They are great for the Yama map where you toss them up and over the ramp and in the short maps where you can lob hate down onto someone every time you jump and sometimes when you are standing around if you know where to do it from.
Pinatas are harder to use and much more unforgiving, but if you get them right (e.g. lead the opponent, and time the firing and jump) they deal A LOT more damage in a very short amount of time and tend to actually criple the opponent (probaby break their legs). Also, well timed pinata shreds Gary, while aphids just miss. Ironically while the aphid build requires more patience and tactics but less gunning skills I see it being more useful as I go up levels (more bigger slower bots, and longer range, indirect fire to protect me more) where as, a well piloted regular DB owns Gold and down (IMO) maybe higher than gold but I'm not there yet.

It's odd considering Aphids cost gold and Pinata silver. Something's wrong here. It is apparently super difficult to balance aphids as we had aphid parties after the buff this winter (the sky was white with them) where they seemed to have nearly magical homing properties. After the nerf, they behaved well but not awesome, I'm not really sure why the rockets are getting buffed...

I absolutely love the Stuka. That is the only Griff build that has held a position in my hangar for a week straight without being rotated out.
The Aphids will stay in my hangar. Oh sure I will try the Pinatas again, with or without the buff. The Pinata damage potential is undeniable. However, the way I play leans more to the Aphids. And that whole "not going over obstacles" thing gets negated if in a jump. Plus, I don't really see an issue with it. Right as you are firing, walk back a step, if you are up against a wall, and they go over it fine if it isn't too high. Also, you can fling them a bit around corners... great when getting the side beacon in DC, for example. And the damage is damn good, if not on Pinata level.
If you find yourself about to be in a Pinata situation (like the Red is about to come around a corner about 50m away) in a Stuka, save the Aphids for when you get face to face, they will hit almost like a Pinata burst and up close you don't have as many, if any, leakers that don't hit or go astray. They tend to fly straight at the target that close. Let the Aphids fly, then jump back while finishing the Ork unload, and by the time you land it will almost be time to fire the aphids off again... which is a huge plus if you jumped over a low wall and have separation from your target, but still have lock. Again, they fit the way I play and provide more opportunity for hitting the Reds before they can hit you back - which is always preferred in my book!

Just to add to my own recent Aphid experience, I was in a Leo walking towards someone lobbing Aphids at me just now.
At least three volleys of Aphids hit me when I was walking straight at the guy. I took minimal damage.
Did they nerf Aphids in the last week or something...?

No, they can miss if you don't do a little leading, depending on the angle that you were traveling in relation to the bot using them. What was your Leo level? Did you see the level of the Aphids chucked at you?

My recent example on a Stuka Griff... Fired two at a Carny... dropped his shield to about 1/4, jumped in and Orked them. Almost dead. The next Aphid volley became available right after Orks were done and both of them hit and killed him. (Aphids were 9, and Orks were 8 and 9)

I don't know what level they were. I guess it's possible they were low level. I didn't think he could miss with Aphids in a straight line. :-)

In my experience, when in the Stuka: jumping if they are coming at you will almost always provide better hit %. The angles are such that the advancing enemy's movement isn't as drastic in comparison to the Aphids' starting point. Does that make sense? Anyway, it works for me.

The only situation where I find myself wanting pinatas on my Griff instead of Aphids is on Canyon, and only when me and my opponent are both in the basin but on opposite sides of the bridge. Aphids hit the bridge, while orkans fly clean under.
I know I've aggravated many aphid spammers with my Gareth. If I am moving sideways or backwards the Aphids will always miss. Galahad can also dodge with speed alone. You gotta wait for the right time to fire aphids off.
To best use Aphids you need Patience. I wish i could fit a light-hardpoint with a boombox and blast this song to my random squadmates at the start of matches.

Isnt it better to swich to another target if you are playing on patience? because for me it makes you lose one of the factors that Aphids are theoricaly better than Pinatas, wich is DPM. By the time you unload your Pinatas and Orkans on a original DB, when your almost reloading you should have 7 seconds on your jump before its cooldown is refreshed, and almost all of your Orkan load to delete someone again. I know that Aphids biggest advantage is its better distance and "shoot over cover" thing, but they definetly has its flaws.
