Looks like the damage is pretty similar between the common weapon and the exotic. Does anyone have the numbers to compare. I see that my Rank 2 Level 6 RPGs do 8092 damage per magazine while the Rank 4 Level 1 MR6 do 10405 damage.
The MR6 major advantages looks to be projectile speed and splash area, however, as you rank the RPG6 the projectile speed increases by 7.5%, 15%, 22.5%, 30%, and 30%. Do the increases stack on to the previous? because then that would be pretty fast and possible comparable to the MR6 in projectile speed?
See if anyone has insight on the comparison

I haven't made the comparisons myself, but I've heard they are similar in damage at similar level/rank. Another thing I've taken into account when comparing is fire rate. The MR family appears to fire their load faster. This is both good and bad. I like that I can surprise someone with a massive load of 'splosions as fast as possible, but if I time it wrong and miss, I'm sitting empty and vulnerable. This can be mitigated somewhat by firing each side independently. Another plus for me is actually the fire/reload mechanism. I'm terrible about managing my reloads during battle. I found I would go to fire the RPG6s and only have one round in each chamber. Bummer. With the MRs, I know that I'm either reloading, or ready to fire. No in-between. I think the MR6 would be best with a Shadow or the Killshot. Shadow and fire and run and the KS can finish off anything that isn't dead after the MR6 barrage.
That said, I'm not going to get the MR6s. I don't plan on running any light mechs to end game so it would be wasted resources for me.

I am going to pass on the MR 6's. I expect to run a Killshot as a beacon grabber to end game, and I find the Javelin 6's to be far more versatile. All other bots I have / will have will be able to mount higher energy weapons than 6s. I worry about diverting too many resources to dead end paths (like the MR 6s).

RPG6 vs MR6 at rank:
RPG 6: Faster/Accurate Projectiles Controlled fire Shorter reload
MR6: Slightly higher cycle damage Burst fire, one and done Long reload

I might be an outlier here... but I LOVE them on the KS. I've even ranked my KS up to 16 en and still love the MR6s on it enough that I haven't even tried anything else. I have run it a lot with Javs and am not saying it's better than the Javs... but with the speed of the KS and thus the ability to get in and out, they just seem like a perfect match. Especially on maps with too much overhead cover. If I put something else on my Panther I will put my MR8s on the KS and the MR6s on my Jugs and see how that goes (but I REALLY like the PC6s on Jugs... especially after that first accuracy increase... so I don't know that they will stay there.) Once I get my Shadow upgraded, which will be a while, I imagine they will end up there... will see. (Forgive my rambling post )
