Hi all,
Pondering on unlocking 4th slot as I am meching out more often than I care to admit (I know, I know - slowly catchey monkey, but, y'know - mechs and guns - kaboom!)
Current line-up:
1. Ares (4*2) - Pulse Cannon 8 (3*2) - boring, but effective. Push and sweep towards bacon/red spawn. Often first drop. 2. Guardian (3*3) - Missile Rack 8 (4*1) - not subtle, but effective 3. Panther (3*4) - Javelin Rack 6 (3*3) - great fun.
The Panther used to house Longarm 8s, and I'm not too shabby a shot, but I am having more fun with the JR.
I am hovering over adding:
4. Jugg (3*1) - and giving him the JR and putting Panther back to LAs. Another option would be to load with MR6, but not so keen on this option as already have that playstyle with Guardian.
I don't have Killshot (natural home for JR6?) - and certainly not enough blueprints to take to en12 yet - so this route would require a period of odd/low power loadout which I'm not keen on, but the speed...
I am asking for your thoughts, as I worry also about boosting my Squad Power (currently 972) which will open up tougher MM reds.
Tia for any comments. lavajava

I can’t really recommend one way or the other. All I can offer is: 1, I’m not sorry I opened up a 4th slot. It gives me a bit more flexibility, and the way upgrade cards are acquired, it’s not like it’s easy to focus upgrades on a limited number of bots anyway. 2, I found Killshot to be quite effective even with JR4’s. Though admittedly there’s a big difference when it moves up to the 6’s. But ya gotta start somewhere.

I think a killshot would compliment your existing chassis well. I really enjoy running mine with RPGs.
From my very limited experience, I've found the increase in my squad power (approx 1100) has made little difference to battle difficulty.

Get the Killshot and get it ranked up to have 12 energy capacity as fast as possible and then put the Jav6 on it. I like it better than the Shadow because the Shadow upgrades the energy slower and you don't get many blueprints for it. Plus, the Killshot is way more fun. Did you know that the Killshot's melee dash also hits things above it? I got killed by one when I was on a higher ledge. Surprised the heck out of me too. The Killshot is also the natural predator of the Panther cause the Melee Dash goes through the fence, even if it's already been slowed down. I've lost track of how many times I've been killed by the Melee Dash when I thought the Killshot was safely at a distance. The Melee Dash also has a HUGE splash radius, so it's great for getting those multi kill achievements if you spot a gaggle of reds with low HP.
Put the PC8 on the Panther as that combo works like a charm. As for the Ares, I've relegated mine to the sniper role and it does this role spectacularly. From far away, other snipers don't really know what I am, so they often assume I'm a Guardian. Up goes my shield and I can trade shots with them and win. My weakness is Jav and RM mechs, but heck, that's the way it is.
Your hangar will be pretty much the same as mine, and once you get the Jug, it will be. My Jug is still relatively low cause I don't really like the tank role much. But, with PC6 on it, I gotta say that it's one tough bot. My dream hangar would be to replace the Jug with a leveled Shadow that can mount RPG6 or MR6 and use it to hunt Jav and RM mechs.

Killshot and panther are two very solid bots, so much so that some use two of each at the top when you unlock second copy. Definitely recommend the killshot. some high level players run RPG6 with great success on the killshot if you want to keep the Jav6 on the panther. I replaced my ares with a jugg just because they are such a pita lol

Question about hangars in general - how is it that players with a fraction of my XP have hangars so much stronger than anything I can muster? I have 63k XP, and the best hangar I can put together (4 slots) would have a power of around 1200. I’m constantly running into players with 40k or less XP with hangars 200, 300, 400 higher. Hell, one guy yesterday with only 10k XP had a 1700 power hangar.
I have not been wasting many resources - I limit my upgrades to the mechs and weapons I play the most, focusing more on the few I want to upgrade quicker. I have purchased a few resource packages, so I’m not exactly F2P, but I’m also not dropping the national debt on it, either (less than $50 so far). I play 3-4 tournaments a week (plus one game on the ‘off’ days), and the rest quick matches as long as the XP and tokens hold out, so I’m definitely getting in some reasonable playing time. I’m not about to start dumping more into it until A, they fix a few flaws, and B, I’m comfortable that it’s not going to go full-blown P2W after it finally goes fully live; and even then I have serious limits on what I’ll spend on a friggin GAME. Still, upgrading gear is a very long, slow slog (I have NO mechs at R4 yet), but a lot of players seem to be moving along a lot faster than I am, at least based on what their XP indicates. What am I missing here?

What am I missing here? It's money. I intend to do a status report when all of my gear reaches the rank 3 cieling. So far, it doesn't look as promising as we'd hoped.

What do you mean my "not as promising as we hoped"? Also, looking forward to your status report. Edit: my stuff is almost at rank 3 ceiling, hence my interest...

hicycles RM equivalent price tags, price hike vs reward structure, artificial difficulty through power delta. You know, the run of the mill things that prevent games like these from being competitively viable, and keeps them the laughing stock of the gaming industry.
