Circuit Demolition Derby 2. Demolition derby/racing game that’s a near total mindless time-waster. Not a whole lot in the way of progression that I can see other than collecting all kinds of vehicles and some basic customizations. You can buy any new cars and open any new tracks at any time, as soon as you’ve earned enough cash. Cars cost various prices and all have the same simple modifications, and all tracks cost the same (only ‘pay’ once, then they’re always available).
It has race modes and demolition derby modes, both fun in their own simple way. Demolition derbies are a blast — you just tear around smashing everybody else, and try to be the last one running. The longer you run, the more cash you make to buy more stuff. It supposedly has AI and live players, but I haven’t gotten a game to start with any live players yet. But the games against AI are still challenging and fun.
However ... as dumb as we think Pixonic devs are, the designers of this game take the cake with one absolutely idiotic ‘feature’: you’re forced to watch an ad before every second race, but the races start while you’re watching the friggin ad. Yup, while you’re watching the ad it makes you watch, the next race/game is starting. Demo derbies aren’t too bad, because most times you haven’t gotten clobbered yet by the time you actually drop into the game. But in race mode, the whole field is well away before you can hit the gas pedal, which is just royally stupid. Luckily the ads are short, usually only 5-10 seconds before you can exit out of them. But man, what a stupid, stupid arrangement. And yes, I blasted them for it in my App satire review. But if you can get past that idiocy, the game is fun as hell. Simple, almost mindless, just how I like it.
Edit: Just for grins I tried Demolition Derby 3, and it sucks. It’s way more complicated, has the same stupid play-starting-during-ads bug, except the ads run even longer before you can exit them. Deleted before I got through a single game. And yes, I blasted this one in the App Store reviews, too.
