Have you heard of this game!? It’s amazing, I love it I love it. Just gorgeous and happy and thrilling and funny and I love it.
I got it when it first came out about a year ago for iOS and was in awe and continued to play about once a week just to relish in its splendor but there was a couple things I didn’t fully understand so it stayed like that until a couple months ago when I finally researched those couple things and since then I’ve been playing every day, voraciously.
There’s no fighting or overpowered players or insane pricing or ads. Just sweet, lushes exploration and camaraderie. The game is very friendly and about story and spelunkering and puzzles and friendships and play. The creators, ThatGameCompany, are very conscientious too.
They are big on not giving spoilers but you can hop on Discord or the Wiki and reveal everything if you want. I prefer finding things myself and suggest you just dive in without reading too much about it. But I will say a couple things... You want to collect light from candles and other places which will sizzle around you. When you collect enough light you’ll be able to forge a candle and this is the basic currency. Once light is collected you can’t collect it again until the next day. Candles can be spent on upgrading emotes or making friends or buying instruments or other cosmetics or hearts (the high value currency). There’s a ‘season’ going on right now which has special items and daily quests which uses its own seasonal candle currency. And there’s a traveling spirit which appears for only a limited time. Ack, there’s too much and I feel I’m being confusing. Just play and make friends and you’ll figure it out. Oh, one more thing, there’s hidden controls that appear when you touch the corner of the screen. Top-right is settings, bottom-right is taking pictures or video (without UI), bottom-left is chat (but you need to be good friends for them to read it), and top-left is your currencies and the daily quests.
A version for Android came out about a month ago and they’re working on a version for switch. It’ll work on phones but hopefully you have a tablet to really take it in.
My desktop pictures are all from Sky now, just can’t get enough
The only downside is there’s no active forum for Sky. There’s a very active Discord and Reddit but I prefer forums because it’s easier to follow threads and there’s more space to talk in depth.
Anyways, it’s been 4 years of playing War Robots and I finally have a new #1 game. There’s days I don’t even open War Robots because all my play time is in Sky. I don’t foresee myself quitting War Robots completely but it’s nice to have finally broken the habit. Also, most times I finish a session of War Robots I’m left agitated and frustrated but when I close Sky for the day I’m left open and curious and blissful.
