S-Clan Squad Strategies in Beacon Rush

Some thoughts on this... totally irrelevant of course...

I have caught a few top A and S clan matches on stream over the past few weeks, and this is exactly what I have seen every one of them do. Oh sure, there is a bit of variance depending on the clan/squad, but overall Ravs, [Nightingales], AJs, and Lokis are the majority of what I have seen played. Occasionally a holdout or two will still use a Leech, but overall it's pretty much exactly the formula you stated in the OP.

As much as I hate playing against a clan in squad when MM gets sadistic, it's a blast to watch two equally matched teams go at it. It's almost like a fast paced Chess match as far as the strategy and tactics implementation... knowing when to go where and what to defend and with what bot, with the absolute knowledge that your team knows every bit of their role as well, puts the game on a different level.  I have learned a bit from watching them, too... especially in regard to Loki use.  It also gave me a different perspective as to what it's like when a time drop messes up and that team is stuck against low Champions League and Masters League randoms... the ones I have watched either try to hurry up and get through it, collect resources, and move on in order to try to time drop again, especially if they are all using boosters, or they get all funny and just sorta mess around with the randoms for fun.  Depends on the squad.  All the ones I have seen or know don't like that they have to chance going against Randoms... it's not their goal and is really a wholly different game.

I would imagine most of these clans would back a separate, voluntary queue, that would allow them to only match against other clans that use that queue, thereby completely avoiding Randoms at all.

Solo is different... of course... but when these clans squad it's to play against other squads 9 times out of 10.

Again, I like watching it and keyboard quarterbacking, but I don't think I would enjoy playing competitively like that... time, resources, and energy are big barriers for me in that regard, but that doesn't mean I don't respect the skill and cooperation it takes to be able to do that with a team, and be good at it.

Yep having preset plans and strat's make a huge difference in S clan battles. Our clan hardly ever uses comms during play we rely on having basic strat's we use. The main drawback is getting newer players up to speed. For many in our clan being on comm's doesn't work well because of family and home life.

One of the main strat's all top clans use will be in jeopardy soon when scorpion hits. That is controlling the battle line and forcing reds into a crossfire and such. Soon Reds can and will be anywhere, I do hope they nerf the teleport distance into the ground but how will they sell that......

Absolutely.  Can vouch for this.  Getting a match against randoms is no fun for anyone.

I'll even go as far to say that we check other clans discord servers. And I know many of you guys do the same. If we see squads in their comms channels then we keep playing. If it's dead, then we call it a night.

I’m continuously impressed with the different coordinated metas of the S clans, both as new meta gear is released, and the flexibility to explore unpredictable combinations with older gear, though disappointingly the latter is not as prevalent as the former. By this I mean that an excellent combination is found and it is used over and over, while coordinated unpredictable tactics are not as utilized as I feel they should be. Once a specific meta tactic is accepted as the go-to by S squads, while it is effective, I would like to see more coordinated efforts that can counter rather than mimic it.

It is equally enjoyable to me that as new content is created and explored in test server by S clan members, preparations of tactics and counter-tactics begin to form and circulate amongst the social network. While the general population of players who run solo or in lower ranked clans just play the game, perhaps with some intended coordination, S ranked squad battles are on a different level, not merely because it is an incredible dance of enhanced equipment levels and combinations, but that equipment is coordinated into strategies. Even though lower ranked clans tend to also have lower level gear, they would be a much more formidable force to their opponents if they studied these coordinated tactics.

So, much respect to JFSoul for sharing one of the main tactical wonders of S squad combat.

My suggestion is that this thread become an ongoing database for sharing some examples of the principal S squad metas as we move forward with new content. When for example, the Scorpion comes out and a new starting meta appears, we can start a post here in ALL CAPS as a personal header stating the date at that time and giving that meta/tactic a common title, or maybe even mentioning the current version of War Robots so people can get an idea of the timing it appeared. Samples:

or something like this. That way visually as people scroll the thread, the start of new meta tactics will pop out. I will also pin this thread for easy access.

I’ve had the experience recently of being a random fitted in as the 5th or 6th member of a team where the rest of the team is in a squad.
My comments on being that person.
1) know that you’re going to be 5th or 6th on the team, so don’t get greedy for honor points, you’ll never be up with the clan members so don’t try.
2) get out of their way. Don’t block access paths or walk in front of their fire.
3) watch what the clan is doing and try to follow and them and shoot at what they’re shooting at. It helps if you have lockdown ammo, shredder/pulsar, freeze rockets etc.
4) as soon as the clan drops their titans get into your healbot and shadow one. I have a Tyr with pulsars/shredders and quantum radar so I spent most of a game where I was the only random in the middle of a clan -v- clan match swatting Ao Juns trying to get close to an Arthur I adopted. The reds sent 3 Ao Juns against the one Arthur using a taxi-cab system , but because I kept suppressing them in flight they did little damage to the Arthur who then curb stomped them when they landed.

That sounds like fun, but only if the other side Isn’t a squad. I’ll take my 6th and a win over a 6th and a loss.

 Yep this is good stuff! When we're fighting in squad versus another squad, no one is going for damage. We're doing everything and anything we can to get and hold beacons.

So one thing to add is.... If you're a random player with a squad and you get one of the home beacons, then hang nearby and protect it. That's one of the most critical roles in a squad is guarding one of the homes. Definitely participate in the fight, just keep one eye on the beacon you're next to. If a random helps with this then it is invaluable!

I love playing this game because its easy to play just for fun or use top strategy plans.
But i stoped playing in Top S-Clans because always some idiots mean that they be able to use their own strategy.
They don't connect to voice, run alone to be at the top places ...
In lower S-Clans or high A most people accept that strategy, voice and teamspirit is the key to win against other clans.
Higher Clans mostly loose against those teamed Clans, because they are on top mostly because of great duo-players.

hard to maintain a battle line when people can teleport behind you. The only good news is the range was decreased to 350 meters instead of the 500 I think it started at!

I’m not seeing many full stop, but those few I do see are loaded with cryo weapons so don’t have much staying power after blowing their load, so can’t hold a beacon.

TDM matches begin like this now for me .... take my trusty Blitz or Nightingale, and hover at the 350 mark, eyeing the enemy closely.  Once I see one blink my, or a fellow blues way ... like an Osprey, I will zero in on teleport point and wait until the little bugger returns.  Just wait until the blue DR symbol disappears before dispatching him.  

It will die.
