I was playing on my smurf account with the kids and was invited to squad with an obvious tanking clan. They were all in Diamond and using maxed old meta bots - lots of Hellburners at spawn etc.
I accepted the invitation and we all huddled around the phone just to see what it is like to do the booting for a change.
In the first match, it was very much as expected - hapless Natashas being insta-annihilated by their Hellburners and an easy victory in two minutes. A bit boring as it goes.
In the second match, I watched with unalloyed joy as a team of Phantoms destroyed their bots (and mine obvs) mercilessly and stole all of the beacons. Witnessing tankers being out tanked by superior tankers was a real thing of beauty.

Pilots should not be allowed to be demoted below their current league. Easy code fix. Drastically change the game for the better for new pilots. Will never happen.

I agree, though I think being able to drop 1 or 2 league levels seems realistic for those that get promoted too fast. Either that, or make the test for the next level take longer than 5 games. Like 20 or so to get a statistically significant data set.

That's really sensible, but I think that it would need to be looked at around the border of Champions for the 5000 point riders who dip into Masters for the resources. I'm generally lowish Champs and (legitimately) ended up in Masters at the start of this season for the first time for a while. Smashing my way through Leo after Leo made me feel pretty filthy, but looking at the payouts, I totally understand why people do it.
