Ming pilots, how do you handle an Arthur 1:1 at close range? Ie: if an Arthur spawns near you?
I'm not a paying player so I saved up for a long time to buy the Ming. I'm beginning to wish I got the Arthur instead since I get smoked every single time I face an Arthur 1:1. I can usually go toe to toe with a kid but not an Arthur.
Lately, I've been attacking the Arthur on the ground and using the Ming's ground defensive resistance. That helps, but I still get taken out EVERY time.
What happens is I try to use the Ming to cap a red beacon, and obviously someone with an Arthur is just waiting for me to do that, then an Arthur spawns in front of me and takes me out. If I fly and hit the Arthur from on top, we all know how good the Ming's targeting system is ... and I get taken out even faster. Ming is too slow to retreat.
Also, how do you Ming players hit Ao Juns? I'm resorting to waiting till the Jun player makes a mistake and lands ontop of a roof instead of behind it. But an experienced Ao Jun player gets me every time.
Frustrated.

With mings, they have to be leveled fairly high to withstand damage from Arthur. It's best to stay either away from them with plasma/scourge type weapons, or hit them from right above, over their shield. Also, use cover to your advantage. I recommend not taking off or landing out in the open, if possible. This way, if you end up taking damage while in flight, you can always land and heal.
I don't play a Ming, but I do play arthur. I find that when mings are close to directly over me, I can't target them, and their weapons can get above my shield.
I don't know why I share this information, but I do.

I run both Au Jun and Ao Ming (don’t hate me) so I can tell you from both sides.
When facing an Arthur you’ll get destroyed taking on an Arthur head on, even faster if he’s got a buddy Titan shooting you at the same time.
A few tactics I use: Try to position myself to his side or back so I’m not shooting his shield. Try to position myself behind a structure. If another Ming on my team drops try to coordinate with him to attack the Arthur.
For countering AJs I try to keep track of where they are and especially where they land. Some players are very good about landing so you can’t reach them but many are not and you can take them out before their next sortie.
Lastly, on some maps you can use structures to get higher altitudes. Just land on one that’s about where your feet are while flying, wait the five seconds, then take off again and you’ll be even higher. The higher you are the tougher it can be for them to target you. Just be careful as that can affect your targeting ability as well and we all know there are already issues with the targeting system.

Ao Ming is my number one enemy especially plasma AM. If I see AM is coming to me directly, it means it is high leveled and able to withstand damage from me. Second, it is not afraid of Arthur's fart or the damage is negligible for them. And the most important part is, within 110m and below, they can shoot directly and bypassing the shield. Plus point: Arthur lose the target lock but AM still maintain the lock and can shoot you until death.

Instead, I spent 700 pt for a Ming that gets taken out by an Arthur without me hardly able to ding the shield. I've tried to fly above and target down but the problem is the Ming's targeting is terrible, it takes me a few seconds to lock onto the Arthur as the targeting bounces around. This has been discussed plenty on these forums.

A few tactics I use: Try to position myself to his side or back so I’m not shooting his shield. You'll know this as a Ming pilot, when an Arthur see you, they target the Ming first b/c they know they can take it out relatively easily and stop those two alpha weapons from hitting them. Try to position myself behind a structure. I've been doing that after learning that the Ming is not a brawler. Hiding and hitting is generally not my style though... I generally like to charge and hit, if I realized that earlier, perhaps an Arthur would have been a better choice. If another Ming on my team drops try to coordinate with him to attack the Arthur. For countering AJs I try to keep track of where they are and especially where they land. Some players are very good about landing so you can’t reach them but many are not and you can take them out before their next sortie. I've tried something new, waiting until later in the game when the Juns are mostly gone before spawning the Ming. But if I wait too long, I don't have enough blue players to support my Ming. Lastly, on some maps you can use structures to get higher altitudes. Just land on one that’s about where your feet are while flying, wait the five seconds, then take off again and you’ll be even higher. The higher you are the tougher it can be for them to target you. I can ignore them because I just ignore the damage. Most have glaciers or embers to counter my arthur but I still ignore them. Not because I can block the damage but rather because I can't do anything about them anyway. Also, it is good that titans can't target stealth bots, I LOVE that mechanic but the ao jun needs to be nerfed into the ground. It has reigned as an all around killer for far too long and besides, no bot should be able to kill a titan on its own anyway. Just ridiculous that they let this thing romp free for this long, even when you consider that they are pix. They are the reason both my strider and bully have Quantum Radar even though I would love to have something else.

Yep, this is why you should always look at the bots pix put out more closely. Ao mings are the most expensive so they seem to be the best at first glance but with how the maxed arthur VS maxed ming fight that I watched ended up it is clear that arthur is best. If pix did this on purpose then it is a great $ scam. Whales buy all their pretty mings, then after a while player start killing them with arthurs without breaking a sweat. Suddenly the whales all have to go buy and max out arthurs instead spending 2x as much as they should have.

When I run my Arthur (Smurf account) I have absolutely no fear of a single AM. If there are several I have to be a little more cautious and try to use cover.
When I run Kid (regular account) I have to be a lot more cautious. Still I have Tsar equipped on my Kid and even if I can't bring AM down quickly I can make him lose enough health so he usually backs off. Yesterday in Dead City two reds were holding center. I found a good spot and lobbed rocket shells at both until they retreated behind buildings. Then one of my teammates got the center beacon.

But an experienced Ao Jun player gets me every time. Frustrated. Before I give you my advice, I think it's important to go over the strengths of the two titans and how that equates to optimal playstyle. Arthurs biggest strength is obviously its shield. And its shield is strong right out of the box, making it the better titan at lower upgrade levels. It's a brawler through and through, and most bots are going to struggle trying to out brawl it. Mings are kind of the polor opposite. While Arthurs strength is defensive, Mings is offensive. It has more firepower then any bot in the game and can position itself, by flying, to take advantage of it. But at the same time its very susceptible to damage and needs to use distance and cover to be effective. This makes it not a brawler, but a midrange support bot capable of doing massive damage. So to answer your questions, you don't handle an Arthur 1v1 at close range, it handles you! The best you can hope for is staying on the ground until it needs to reload then try to attack it from above its shield. Or just wear down its shield for the next bots. But optimally you avoid these situations by keeping distance and cover between you. And in this situation, as soon as you start taken fire from a titan, drop out of the sky behind cover and heal. Same for Ao Jun. Then pop back up when it might be safe. Essentially paying peekaboo and keeping it distracted until you wear the Arthur down. Mings take more skill and experience to pilot in this regard. They also do better the higher you level them, more so then Arthur. Having more DR, more HP, and the ability to heal more makes a big difference to the Ming. So don't be discouraged that it's not awesome at low levels, just keep upgrading and you'll start to like it more and more. The best advice I can give to young Ming pilots is this; spam the healing! Even if the Ming is at full health, as soon as you start taking any damage, hit the heal button and that will make you almost invincible for a few seconds. Enough time to get your damage in, and/or drop out of the sky behind cover without taking any.

I never thought of the Arthur and the AM as polar opposites but that is exactly what it is. In that case the price should be opposite too. The Arthur should be 700 pt and the Ming should be 400 pt. The argument being the Arthur can stand up to basically anything, it can cap and hold beacons. While the Ming can fly and hit from above, that feature is a steep price to pay for having the lowest HP and costing 700 pt and slooooow. I was under the impression that the Ming can brawl with its damage resistance on the ground and two Alpha weapons but it can't do that either. I guess I was expecting it to get what I paid for the Ming. I figure it should be the top titan given its hefty price tag. Instead, the Ming comes with a lot of footnotes. Disappointed... but I just won an Antimatter reactor so I'll start leveling that up for the benefit of all weapons.

The Ao Ming is better than the Arthur. However it is much more difficult to handle effectively. The Arthur just stomps towards the closes beacon blasting anything it sees. Very unsubtle. The Ao Ming has to pick and choose what it engages and whether or not to approach a beacon with much more care. The biggest advice I can give an Ao Ming pilot is never get greedy. Take your shots from range, let your team mates rush the beacon, never let yourself be caught in a pincer between multiple reds capable of inflicting serious hurt on you, be patient, maintain situational awareness. More Ao Mings are lost due to pilot carelessness than due to enemy action.

Out of all the titans, Mings have the most upside and most to gain by leveling up! Getting more tanky is huge for the Ming because it doesn't have a built in shield (a max Ming has over two times the defense points, while on the ground, then any of the other max titans). There's a reason most top players have Mings in their hangers.

Getting more tanky is huge for the Ming because it doesn't have a built in shield (a max Ming has over two times the defense points, while on the ground, then any of the other max titans). There's a reason most top players have Mings in their hangers. I'm playing it differently and seeing a lot more success. I'm new to the AM as well (a few weeks), I'm just so used to using a Kid that I've been playing the AM like a Kid. So I've been changing my tactics ... the AM has a lot of footnotes that need to be considered when using it. Unlike the Kid or Arthur that can spawn and just charge ahead. I learning you can't do that with a Ming even with the grounded defense resistance. 1. Spawn it soon enough in the game where you still have a lot of blue players 2. Try to bring in your Ming just behind a group of blues 3. Support them by helping them to clear the tanks with high HP (Leos, Fenrir). Also support them by taking out the hit-and-run bots like Ares, Leech by flushing them out of their hiding spots. Also support by hitting fast targets like Phantoms and Blitz b/c at long range, its easier to track a fast bot and the Ming has less obstacles in the air than they do in the ground. 4. The way I see the Ming's role is not a beacon capper or holder, but to clear the field of red bots so your blue team can get the beacons. Now, I've been trying some new strategies for dealing with Arthurs. 1. Stop trying to cap beacons with the Ming, see above point #4. This lessens the chance someone will get smart and spawn an Arthur as I'm approaching or capping a beacon. 2. When an Arthur does get too close to you, problem with retreating (what I used to do) is you're constantly firing into that massive sheild. You're gonna get smoked for sure. So knowing I'm likely not going to survive, I've been charging the Arthur either on foot or in the air with the Ming. If you get close enough even on foot, you can fire above the Arthur's shield and do some significant damage and hopefully someone else can finish the job To be fair to the Ming, a similarly equipped and leveled Kid probably can't take out an Arthur as well. We've all seen 2-3 Kids trying to take out an Arthur.

Mainly stay away. Arthur is a hard counter to a ming unless they have maxed rockets or maxed MGs (which at that point why are we even comparing them?). It is best to wait until the arthur is out of cover and preferably fighting with someone else. I play an arthur and the only way a ming ever beats me is if I am caught off guard (which, although rare, is very effective). Arthur is just way too good against ao mings so you have to get some help or play dirty. As for ao juns, I honestly have no clue. In my arthur I just ignore them and dish out what damage I can on whoever and kill the ao jun if I can. If I can't then I am fine with losing my bot, just so long as I can get some good score with it. Gets me to using my other bots. I've resorted to doing that. But then that means my only role is to clear the field and I have to keep running away from Arthurs and Juns. The big issue is that a machinegun Ming is suboptimal, so if you're going to play one, you need to plan on acquiring goons or tasers too. This is exactly why I decided to go with Arthur - I could just port the machineguns from my Kid and do good.
