So, I recently re-installed this game and I'm really getting into it again. I haven't really gotten very far and I haven't spent much money on it. I can't remember how much I spent before I put it down, but I do have one legendary ray gun - it seems pretty common so I couldn't have spent that much.
This game is pretty cool. I dislike the battle royal types of games cause I'm not that good at FPS games, and the battle royal games are basically a lot of running and looking for guns followed by a split second of fighting and then dead. This game has the standard game modes like Death Match, Team Death Match and Point Capture. The games are all fast and furious but not so much that a guy like me can't keep up. This may change as I level up though so we'll see.
The weapons are fairly balanced. The basic guns are just that, basic, meaning they just do damage. The Premium guns do damage plus have some sort of add on passive benefit like more armour or more health. The Legendary guns do a bit more damage and have more passive benefits. You can equip up to 3 guns, so I usually have an assault type of gun that is a jack of all trades in terms of range/firepower, a sniper rifle (most powerful guns in the game but suck at CQC), and a shotgun or some other CQC gun. There is a leveling up system for both the guns and your character. The upgrades are instantaneous but as you go up in levels, the chance of failure goes up. The incremental benefits for leveling is pretty minute though, so even if you don't level up much, you won't see too much difference. There used to be a repair system where all guns but Legendary class had to be repaired occasionally. I don't see this anymore so I guess they took it out.
Some maps used to have a tank that you could jump in and pilot. The tank had limited benefits though, so it's gone now. Instead, some maps and game modes allow you to deploy a Titan - yeah, it's a rip from Titanfall, but it's cool to run around in a mech that has more armour and more firepower. It's pretty easy to destroy a Titan given the right conditions though, so they're not terribly unbalanced. Besides, everyone can deploy their Titan every 180 seconds.
There are some P2W elements though, even though some of the better weapons are available to rent for free for the day. For example, I just had a game where a guy on the opposite team was playing a high level Killer character (same character class as me), but he was invisible to radar and had high level movement, so he was basically just running around on the map (which was a small tight quarters one) and meleeing everyone. Thankfully, for now, I don't see this very often. There also seems to be some people who play with controls other than their phone controls, cause they move very well and have impeccable aim. Again, thankfully, I don't see them very often so most of my games have been pretty balanced so far.
The grind is horrible though, if you want to get the really good gear for free. A typical Legendary would cost over 8k gold in the game, and you only get like 80 gold a day for completing your daily quests. So yeah, it could take you 100 days of constant playing to get a Legendary gun. The good news is that you can pick up weapons from people who've died in the game and try out their guns during the match. I also find the controls a bit cramped. There's too much going on the screen. The weapon change is in the bottom right, so for a while, I was accidentally swapping my gun in the middle of firefights. I've configured my game to auto fire for me, so that makes my life a bit easier. For example, my sniper rifle automatically fires as soon as I go into scoped mode and line up the dot on my target. 2-4 shots is usually enough to take out reds depending on their armour, HP and class.
The character classes are cool too. I only know a couple off the top of my head and it looks like they've added a few more. There's Recruit that everyone starts with and has no specials. After a while, you get the chance to get one of the other classes. There's Tank, with more armour and HP and resistance to certain types of damage and gets damage buffs with explosives. There's Assault - don't remember his specials but he gets buffs for assault rifles. And there's my class, Killer, which gets buffs with sniper rifles and gets radar invisibility buffs. You also can get drones that follow you around and give you other buffs like more armour or radar invisibility.
All in all, if you're looking for a War Robots alternative and just want to go into a game and start killing things, this could be a good choice. Not much brain power required and you and get some good mindless fun.
