So about a week before Earl Campbell left us, I was practicing with Hover in the river canyon on Castle map, trying to figure out all the possible flight paths between the 3 hidden perches in the canyon (technically 3.5 with that little outcropping slightly above the northern bridge). At some point, I started trying to shoot some video of it, then quit in frustration because I was trying to do it all in one long take (I don't know much about video editing). Anyway, then Earl quit, and as everyone was posting messages to him, well I figured I'd try this again and I managed to get it right. So if you're out there Earl, this one is for you! These are the only moves I could make work, but some of them work really well. I actually spent half a match earlier popping in and out northern-most perch in the canyon (to both of the towers and then both of the bridges as shown early in the vid) while cutting down enemy bots. It definitely drove the reds crazy, I had at least two dedicated to chasing me by the end. That spot is really effective and worth knowing for Hover pilots. To get there is simple - X marks the spot: The other interesting discovery is that it's actually possible to get back out of the canyon from underneath the northern bridge. Unfortunately there is only one way that works and it is very difficult and time-consuming to do. I actually did it 3 times in this video and the second attempt is basically as smooth and quick as I ever managed. Practically-speaking it's better than just outright ditching your bot, but unless the enemy isn't watching, you're likely to get destroyed trying it. If there's a flight path I missed, definitely let me know. I'm considering the idea of trying to make a smartly edited version that includes all the flight paths that don't work. So I definitely would appreciate any feedback or tips. Especially from the King should he deign to return. (if not, say hi to Elvis for me)

Nice vid! BTW you missed a spot Very special and tactical spot IMO, take a peek, and shhh ! What's special about this spot is that it can be reached with any jumping bot, and can be used as a jump-fire platform. Especially deadly with aphid class guns. I have discovered it by accident, panic jump, while playing 6pack way back, and did quite well that game in my DB griff, or was it DB Rog... Anyways, took out a decent ammount of red guys.

So 乃ㄥ卂乙, thanks to your awesome tip, I found a ton of hidden nooks in the tops of the rock walls surrounding the map. Filmed a quick vid doing a tour of them, starting from the top and circling all the way around to the other side, then back to below the beacon bridge. It's there at the end of the video that I accidentally found another smaller bottom spot right across from yours! Anyway this video is a less polished, definitely a few false jumps as it's hard to get your bearings from the ground. But I slapped some fun music on it, so enjoy!

So when do you decide to go high in a castle match? What circumstances do you look for? Do you just go for it and see what red does, or are you waiting for specific things?
I feel like I get creamed anytime I pop up, regardless of the situation.

I feel like I get creamed anytime I pop up, regardless of the situation. I feel like the best times are when the enemy doesn't see you, is preoccupied, or you're out of their range. I am running a sniper setup with 600m range, so that can work a lot better. But I just discovered a lot of these spots on the outer walls and haven't really been able to test them in combat. I think the ones on the bottom of the map, where you can perch right at the river bed, then pop right up to the perches way above everyone will be useful. Similar to the two castle towers and that little perch in the river between them. Also, several of those high spots let you back away enough from the ledge that you get shielded from a lot of ground fire. Still, it's definitely tricky. I got creamed all the time trying to hover.

Very nice! Really cool tour of the gorge where most cannot get to, had no clue there were so many little niches. Masterful Hover display on my favorite map for sure. I’ve also spent a decent amount of time there practicing Strider moves. Well done in one take! ?

I actually got started on this project by practicing Strider retreats into the gorge using what I'd seen in your videos. Those vids have been really helpful, especially now when I get backed up to the precipice and have a bunch of Leeches and Juns charging right at me.

NOW I gotta ask....”Strider retreats into the gorge”....whaaaa?!? am I missing some secret tricks here? Or are you referring to the dashes to the lower level of bridge?

NOW I gotta ask....”Strider retreats into the gorge”....whaaaa?!? am I missing some secret tricks here? Or are you referring to the dashes to the lower level of bridge? Under the northern bridge. Used it only in one match so far when a Leech charged me on the bridge and it was my only option. Still managed a couple kills even though I was trapped down there. Did a quick thread on it which then prompted me to try out Hover for the same spots: war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/38824/fell-getI am definitely retreating to the lower level of the southern beacon bridge too. A lot actually, since the latest meta took hold. It's useful when I'm hiding behind one of the big rocks and then Leeches/Juns charge me. Doesn't seem to work as well against Phantoms though. They're so fast and that ability lasts so long, they just come down the ramp and catch me without any dashes left. Still, better 1v1 on the bridge that out in the open with their teammates backing them up. I have to say, I'm real excited to face you after the merger. I see you in a Strider and I am heading right at you. I know I am going to get creamed but it'll be a blast trying to take you on ( )
