So... I finally broke down and got myself a Rhino. I'd like to take it for a spin and try a few setups with it, but there's no way I can equip/level everything to make it competitive with the rest of my hanger in a reasonable amount of time. I've seen people running bots like this before and it doesn't bother me but I'm wondering what you guys think about it. Should I wait until I can level everything up before I start trying it out?

If you have 5 slots go for it. Just remember that it will probably go splat pretty quickly. Keep the fact it is underdeveloped in mind when deciding if you like it.
Another option is you can try stuff on the test server before you buy it.

Yeah, the new MM doesn't leave much room for experimentation if you don't want it to affect you league standing. LOL. I found myself micro-managing my son because of the new MM and was desperately trying to convince him not to use a Natasha treb and a carnage kwk--I need to lighten up. He's got the right idea: If it's not fun then the game's not worth playing.
Take the rhino out for a spin and get smoked repeatedly. Besides, even if you have the right load out you'll still get killed fast since you'll still be learning to pilot a difficult bot.
Another way is to join the test server and load your hangar with 5 of them.

Retired my rhino for a griff.Way too many rockets with the occasional PDB setups and thunder mag leos.
Rhino has decent hp and a magnificent speed and shield to block anthing up front besides rockets. But lacks the agility to avoid his weakness and some flanking aphid chuckers.Griff is squishy but avoids most rocket attacks and is a pro ambusher.I would see the common MRS carnage, and if its a rocket then maybe a snack as long as there is enough cover and teammates keeps him busy. Springfield though is my most despised map cuz my carnage and griffs can't handle the constant trebushiit bombardment when going to the red middle beacon.Ironically thought, yama is my favorite one cuz I found really nice vantage points that I can use to blow up anyone that is at center beacon or running towards the ramp without causing too much attention.Sorry to derail because of my story but in the current meta, rhino is mediocre due to all that splash,at least griff can at least escape a few salvos and gives a nasty payback from his payload

Yep, as BLYTHE mentioned. The test server is the only really true way to test before you buy. That way you get a feel for it in an even playing field where everything is TT. Nevermind that post about a Griff....after getting my Rhino it has only left my hangar once that I recall. That was fairly recently but didn't last long. I often throw a Rhino in my test server hangar too. BECAUSE I LIKE IT!
I say you start running it right away and keep upgrading it. By the time you have it upgraded you might have some techniques figured out. I was severely disappointed when I very first spawned in it, you get used to the mechanics of it. I recommend, especially starting out, Tulumbas or a possible Hydra setup and always Magnums. That's just me though and it's up to you to figure out your own system.
Now check this out for a little pregame booster! lol... I just so happened to upload it today. Then watch my video of the Hydra Rhino [Unorthodox Setups]

Usually from clan squads. It feels a bit like the pressure you receive from an assaulting group of Lancelots but much faster. Both these two bots seem to thrive in numbers, or when they are together. It's best not to use them in the beginning of the game where you are guaranteed concentrated firepower. They are good as closers like Lancelots and Ancilot. It might just be my set up though, as I'm configured to kill Ancilot. I carry mostly plasma weaponry and thunders. So Rhinos throw a wrench in my game plan when I've already used up my rocket bots early in the game.

I guess it comes down to patience. :-)
I can't wait to test a newly-purchased bot. I think I let my Carnage get to level 4 before taking it for a spin. :-)
It would be nice if they made the test server available 24/7 for us to experiment.

I was thinking a simple client-side "firing range" environment would be perfect for stuff like this. Nice open field with some automated targets moving around randomly into/among cover object would be great.

I bet they'd do it for a price. haha....rent-a-bot for 20 gold for one match! Buy 4 matches and the 5th is on the house! Except they'd make it waaay more expensive.
