This isn't meant to be a guide, just my random thoughts on it so far.
My AQ is L12 with L8/9 shredders and sparks. I run it in champs where there's alot of things that can delete it. I'd say that's my biggest problem rn.
So, I am also a Hover pilot which is known to be weak if you lack skills. So i try to play with the same careful playstyle. That means cornershooting and staying behind cover more. Yea, it's just not enough for the AQ.
When to Drop? I'm not sure when my AQ is best. I put my Hover first and always left him there since he's a beacon capper and has enough firepower if it survives to midgame. AQ is weaker playing the same position because it's slower and its jump is not as high as hover. Hover gets so many free shots by flanking and perching on top of really tall cliffs. Sometimes my Hover can last the whole match.
AQ might do well in current midgame when slow Tanks drop. My current build is meant to support and delete Tanks. But one ares or Ao Jun can ruin my day. Trying to get the perfect setup is impossible. I really need numbers on my side if my AQ is just gonna pound on a Tank for 10 seconds. I find it best if I can use a friendly ares or another Tank as protection. Also, may be better in squad play. Most random blues don't help, and will spawn on the far side of the map.
AQ as last drop is where it should shine. Operate like light calvary, clean up reds hiding. Chase them down, lock them, and finish them off. It has lots of mobility and decent speed for this job. If this endgame doesn't happen, then my AQ is toast. So i don't like to keep it in this position. Or if i do, then i have to hope i never have to use it and rely on my other 4 bots.
AQ vs Blitz I don't have a Blitz, but the suppression and extra dmg makes it an all around better bot if skill is the same. AQ needs to really watch out for its low low health pool. Making it far more limited.
AQ vs Hover On paper, it sounds like AQ should be better so it was why i started using it. It has an extra gun, and it can land at any time. That should make up for its lower health. But it doesn't. Most of the other stats of the AQ are worst, so overall it makes really hard to try and do the same things like a Hover. In theory, the AQ should be much better at hunting down ares and Ao Jun that are trying to hide during their cooldown. When i tested it out more than 6-9 months ago in skirmish, it was agile enough to dodge plasma and even dragon flames. So i'm not sure what happened to this bot.

Maybe it would be better with 4 sparks so you can keep a save distance while stay being able to dive reds? The Shredders are short range and your low health pool could be troublesome.

If you focus on Adamant skills (active when Reds hold 3+ Beacons) you can drop in when your team is behind and get boosted Ground Speed, Defense, Damage, and Healing, which can make up for a lot of AQ's weaknesses.
What's your base ground speed?

I'm building another spark as we speak. I'm silver poor rn, spent huge chunk of my savings on leveling my Fortifier mod. I plan to go with 3 sparks + 1 shredder. My goal is to build a Tank buster, so i have to get close and do the circle dance of death. Works great sometimes if i can get a 1v1. Shredders are for lockdown and makes my build more midrange and more a support. I can't melt as fast up close if i had 4x sparks. My playstyle is very aggressive. My Hover is PDB so i have to fight within 350m. Taser builds can sit back.

What's your base ground speed? I just bought a pilot, so only got 1 skill. I don't reroll skills, not enough AU. My AQ is L12, so i already maxed out its ground speed. I just know it's much slower than my hover, which makes a big difference. I can MK2 my AQ to get a little more health and firepower, but my hover works great at MK1 max. It's possible i don't have the skills or right playstyle yet, or maybe pixo has to buff it since we know they don't play this game.

I tried out a red dragon....it is weak, period.
The resources needed to acquire and level up 4 sparks just is not worth it on this bot, IMO. Maybe on a Blitz....
I will say it was a very fun bot to play....I decided to troll, 4xGekkos with Lockdown Ammo.....but, rare damage getter.
tbh, I think a Nori Patton is a better choice, lol.
BTW, Hover has 2 med and 1 light....the extra light on AQ won’t overcome that, especially taser builds

I have my Qin at 12mk2. Usually put my heavy armour mod on it to make it a bit more amoury.
My last build I ran with it was with two sparks/marquess/shredder. Kinda went ok. But you can't run it like a hover. Totally different.
I'm going to be putting it in my hangar next month and try it as a molot gunship. More or less a flying GI Patton with an internal Spark.

I generally don't drop AQ 1st, and also find later is better. 1st can sometimes work if there's a lot of fast blues to support. I tried out a red dragon....it is weak, period.*snip*....I decided to troll, 4xGekkos with Lockdown Ammo.....but, rare damage getter. It surely does melt easy. How did the Gekkos go? I've wanted to try it myself. I'm going to be putting it in my hangar next month and try it as a molot gunship. More or less a flying GI Patton with an internal Spark. Dooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiit!

It's possible to brawl with the Ao Qin. The Ao Qin is one of the best corner shooters in the game. Not many bots are so symmetrical that you can corner shoot with 2 weapons at a time on either side. war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/32850/cqc-brawling-ao-qinIt's not easy, but that's what makes it so fun. I've had dogfights with Ao Juns and Ao Guangs and other Ao Qins. Ao Guang is the hardest to take down in the air. Mine Ao Qin is still L9, with L9 Sparks, and Road Hog and Mechanic as it's skills. I could go quad Aphid and last longer, but too bad the Aphids still aren't as good as Vortexes. I've done the Shredder/Spark thing and have decided that my Blitz is better as an all Shredder build and my AQ is better as an all Spark build.

This might be just the weapon for you. Take off, attack a tank hard for 4 seconds and root him, fly to safety, rinse repeat. I really like this idea! Add in Adamant Guardian and use it when you're down a beacon and you could be money with this thing!

I've done the Shredder/Spark thing and have decided that my Blitz is better as an all Shredder build and my AQ is better as an all Spark build. I took my AQ out. So many games it blew up private ryan style storming the beaches of normandy. Basically left me down 1 bot most matches. 4x spark/shredder takes a long long time to level. I kinda have to decide now what my build will be. I don't have 4 shredders either. 2 shredders, 3 sparks with a 4th baking. I'd go 4 sparks since that seems like the best build, but the constant nerf/buff cycle makes that super risky. If taser builds start becoming popular, scourge + sparks, then i don't want to be left with a bunch of useless paperweights. Even if i go with a tweener build, tweener blitz and tweener AQ are still pretty good. I got 2 halo that needs some love too. Only L12 lights i got are from 3 years ago, mags and pinatas.

Jan 2020/ Update
I put my AQ back in. Just dun give a flying F, meta schmeta.
I got my 4th spark. So 4x sparky. Things have changed so much. Phantoms are everywhere. Titans are big juicy targets, but ya don't want to get to close to the stove top.
I'm trying to use it like my Hover, but i never went with the 「meow」 taser build. It's just a big red target, here i am hiding up here.
Requires more teamwork if i want the squishy to stay alive. Or i hide behind an ares, leech, etc.
Try using Titan as cover. Or any bot works.

So far I'm using the deathstar Lockdown Ammo AQ to stunt the beacon cappers right from the beginning of the match and get an upper hand for Blue. I wouldn't want to be in the receiving end.
