I just installed this game on Android. So far, I'm still into the tutorial...the tutorial is VERY long. There seems to be a lot of game mechanics involved in what seems to be a very basic TPS duel oriented game. The tutorial missions are dead easy, so I'll give it a couple more days before I render a judgement. Visually, the game is very pretty, and like in the anime, it's a blast to see all the different Gundam universe mecha all in one place. Unlike the anime, when you build your Gunpla, you're basically throwing on parts from different mechs to build a hodge poodge mecha of your own. I kinda like this feature as you can create some bizarre looking mechs! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that the game is out now and you can check it out for yourself. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bandainamcoent.gb_en&hl=en_CA

I am trying it out too. It seems familiar enough --- the template is similar to other mobile games, of the fantasy genre --- that I can see where its going.

SMC looks better now that there's an American Server. I only got to play one game so far and I won that easily with no lag. This game...IDK...I'm STILL in the tutorial. Feels like there's a LOT of elements in the game - more than half seems to be dedicated to clicking buttons for one reason or another. The battles are pretty, the controls are unique, but the fighting is short and fast and I feel like I don't actually need to do anything and that much of the fighting is on auto-pilot. I'll give it a few more days and then decide if I like it enough to keep or not.

Go to the Daily Missions and try Hard (16000 CWR) and Difficult (50000 CWR). Length and lethality of the matches change drastically. This game is following the template of other hero collector games, except you are collecting components and modules, and pilots are just extended modules. But the mechanics are the same. Soon enough, you are going to end up playing matches where you need to max out and limit break every thing just to survive and win coop raids that drop the best loot, if previous experience from such games serves. I will say that for a collector game, this is F2P friendly. That alone will make up 50% of my recommendation. Bandai Namco isn't as motivated to scrounge money from players on this app, since its like to increase awareness of the Gunpla collections, so its like an advertisement on its own. My early squad of Frankenstein Gundams. I am thinking of giving them War Robots names + Gundam, so the names will sound like Specter Gundam, Griffin Gundam, Inquisitor Gundam.

The combat is so so. I often just leave at auto battle. But the idea of crafting your custom Gundams and mechs, and with near infinite variation, is a big draw. Create your new Frankenstein creation then let it loose and see how it goes.

The game may have gravely underestimated its own popularity. Servers are severely overloaded. Can't login, and if I did login, can't stay long. Maybe it will get better away from Asian peak hours.

Game is now among the top 20 gross ranking as of now when I checked it at the Google Play Store. Rankings can vary over time and place.

Gacha'ing for one fuschia ranked part is easy enough, but to gacha for all the components to create the "pure" Gundam or any of the other robots in their pure form can take up quite a number of rolls, even for the blue and green ranked mechs.
If you are satisfied with "mixed" custom designs, you can be okay with F2P. But if you are a purist and insist on the Gundams and other mechs the way the TV series would have it, you might be in for some spending.
Kudos for Bandai for having a universal global --- Japan, Asia, rest of the world --- app simultaneously right from the start, without regional separation like so many collection games do (East first, West later). This can be a good formula of success as we have seen that with Dragalia Lost and Fire Emblem Heroes. We have already seen a number of mobile games fail on their global versions, causing them to retreat back to the Japan only app.

For several months I have been working on my collection. However I refused to follow the Gotta get 'em all approach as it is far too costly to complete each premium Gundam when you're rolling for parts, and not everyone of them is worth the effort. The key to the game is to identify which parts is best to roll for and to master kitbashing your Gundams among all the different parts. I do have a complete Gundam Barbados (from Iron Blood Orphans but missing the pilot) and a Gundam X-Divider (from Gundam X). The rest of my complete Gunpla are free event Gundams and Gunpla, referred to by the community as Welfare Gundams, and three stars. You do get what you pay for here, meaning this is very much pay to win, but there are avenues which a free to pay player or a dolphin can get by.
The game itself I would judge as pretty awful. Unstable, memory leaks, crap coding. But its crazy that they release about two to three Gundams every week for you to chase. That is simply ridiculous. It is also pretty incomplete. Bandai Namco however continues to keep updating the app, and just yesterday managed to release the coop module which finally transforms the game entirely. However the controls are still awful and portrait mode isn't the best display aspect for an action game. Arena isn't true PvP, rather you're fighting someone's design that's piloted by an AI, and you are only allowed three times a day for it. Winning or losing gives you the same daily rewards.
I will say however, this is by far the best game if you are into kitbashing, micromanagement, minutae customization and creative expression. Other than building all complete canonical Gundams, kitbashing allows you to create your own original Gundams, so this is a game where you do not see copies of yourself. Everyone is practically unique. You are building Gundams made from parts of all the different Gundams across nearly fifty years of the franchise from the original to the latest shows. You can build a Gundam with mixed parts from Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam Unicorn and Iron Blood Orphans, go ahead. This not only includes Gundams but also every associative mecha in those series from the Zakus to the Gelgoogs. You also collect pilots from all the series from Char Aznable to Heero Yui.
Compared to other gacha games, this isn't one of those that was released in China, S. Korea or Japan first before the rest of the world. The release in Japan and the rest of the world appears simultaneous, with only the name of the app differing in Japan, and there doesn't seem to be any regionalization in the servers. This means when you play this game, you are up to date with everyone, not like Fate Grand Order where the global version seems two years behind initially although FGO has pretty caught up with itself.
