Playing War Robots is kind of like being in a bad relationship. It is fun sometimes, but there are always bad things which grate you and you think frequently about getting the F&^% outta there.
The last few weeks has kind of been the last straw for me.
1) the shield breaker fiasco, which I understand now they are now not going to implement, was a timely reminder that your hanger can be worthless by one decision from Pix. I was pretty savaged by the Trident nerf with my Trident Fury on its own practically getting me into Champs. But it is always in the back of your mind that no matter how much money you spend, and how much you grind, a good portion of your money and work will be worthless by a nerf or introduction of sorts. Its an axe hanging over your head constantly.
2) the new honour system actually sucks. I was 50 points from champs crate and they put me back to start of the masters --> champs cycle. Nice one! Whatever people want to say about it, it is a nerf for me, and probably others, and now it makes me have to buy power cells on top of Premium. With the old honour system I could pretty much stay even (which was a red flag for me, as obviously Pix weren't making much money out of it). This is the straw that breaks the camels back for me actually.
3) Pix is a business, and their business model makes a truckload of money. Good on them. But would I choose to put myself into a system whereby it consistently works against their player base? Not now. I have actually had it. Their model revolves around creating imbalance in the game, to make you pay money to get stuff. Its a business model and I'm not going to crap on it, but I am now choosing not to be in it. I feel like playing this game is like going to a really expensive restaurant, where the food is overpriced, food is "ok" but not excellent, and you are constantly looking at the prices on the menu and shaking your head. The other thing about their business model is their matchmaking system is tiered depending on some opaque algo which they never tell you. Last champs month I was sitting on around 5800. In each game there is consistently 1-2 people 9000+ who wipe the floor (and you have to kill them twice with the ridiculous last stand module! - 5k gold 200k silver I might add, and yes there is clamouring of a nerf to this too!) some mid level champs like me, and some poor sods in Masters III and above who just get murdered. I know as I was one of the poor Masters III players in the past and almost left the game after my win rate dropped to 15% at one point! It is totally ridiculous. On the very rare occasion, when there is a great match, really close right to the end, and you think "that was an awesome match" you look at the stats and they are all pretty much within 400 points each way of your amount. But hey, you can't make money by evenly match making people, otherwise why would you bother maxing your weapons and bots? Pix will say that they want to make the wait time small and this is the reason. I call BS on this. Sounds like a good line a politician would say. They boast millions of unique logins each day. Again falls back to their business model.
Wrapping Up
So after 2.5 years with War Robots, probably a couple of grand spent over the years, I am now not going to focus on it or possibly play anymore. There might be a bit of a fling now and then, going back to the well for old time sake, as you do, but nothing steady anymore. For goodness sake you can get an Origin premium subscription for less the War Robots premium and get access to actual proper games like Battlefield V (plus a heap more), which is evenly matched, not BS whales, and no one screwing with your day. Its not the price for me, it is the in game experience and I feel as though I can get better experience elsewhere.
I'm sure I am repeating every other complaint on this board and nothing is new here and apologise for doing so. But now the straw has broken the camels back finally, and I am getting outta here, and I feel kind of relieved. For anyone reading this and considering playing the game, it is a brilliant game and you will have fun, but the model stinks and it will likely wear you down in time.
