Since this is a nice thread on Aphids, one more question for you:
How is it with usefulness of Aphids against shielded bots?
I assumed that it deals damage to both shield both robot, but recently I've seen the set of videos by Lloyd le-Mar and this is obviously not true as he was able to block virtually all damage with his Gareth's shield (the same will probably apply to Galahad). So, Aphids are useless against a well-piloted Gar/Gal, which was my main motivation to buy them :-) What about other bots? I assume Aphids can bypass Rhino shield but I'm not sure about Lancelot and Raijin. Also, if it hits Lancelot/Rhino/Raijin shields, does it deal damage to the bot?
I have failed at blocking Aphids plenty of times with my Gareth, usually you get the partial block.
I believe the Aphids do in fact have some sort of splash damage, or they sure seem to. Or maybe it's just graphic animation errors which is prevalent also without a doubt. Or maybe I'm just mistaking splash damage for the few aphids that actually connect with me unseen. Probably a combination which makes it seem like splash damage.
As far as animation errors. I have been on both sides of that. They go straight into an obstacle but I still see their HP drop. Or I think I was saved by some wall and.....nope! There goes a few of my hard points. Aphids seem to really be notorious for knocking weapons off.
To keep with my tradition of editing 99% of my posts the instant I post them I will now add.....
Energy Shields actually take a decent chunk down with Aphids. If I encounter one while in a Aphid outfit like the Aphid style DB Griffin I'll fire each aphid and then follow up with the Orkans. Usually the Orkans only have a little bit of Energy Shield left before they're hitting meat and bone. This works well as the Aphids can launch ahead while closing to final Orkan range and also energy shields provide a massive target for the Aphids rather then using an Orkan to lower shield and then risking a miss with the Aphids.
