Ive notices things like griffins with all punishers, and a very expensive paint job. Is it really a waste of gold? Or is it something that is good to spend on if you like it?

Its a waste of gold. Dont buy them jnless you have a very healthy surplus of gold and every gold weapon/bot you could ever want/need. (well.. that's my logical side speaking, I certainly didn't follow this advice )

Yes its a waste of gold. I bought some skin, but it intimidates your enemies and then they all gang up on you

People can spend their AU however they like. Its a game afterall, so if having your bot look different from the standard fare makes you happy, then by all means, it may be worthwhile. But if you are asking whether you should do it, the consensus here is that getting slots, then bots, then weapons, then upgrades, then maybe even a name change or two, are all better uses for AU.

Some people spend $500 for a skin in Counterstrike... whatever floats your boat, I guess

Might as well paint an X on your bot. Red especially seems to attract a lot of fire.

To those of us who are broke buying a Bentley seems to be a waste of money when you can get a car that will do pretty much everything it can for a lot less, but if you have a wallet like Bill Gates why not you're not going to miss it.
I see buying paint jobs the same way. If you have the gold lying around why not. Though I think I would wait til I have 5 slots with 12/12 bots (and maybe an alternate or two) and enough gold that will leave me 7-8k after the purchase (you never know they may release a new gold bot) before I bought one. Though if you got it why not spend it.

War Robots should have termed it as war paint instead of paint job. It does feel like there's a slight intimidating effect. But paint definitely draws a lot more attention and glee upon destruction. If you paint a zebra red, it stands out in its herd and the predators will target it for being different. Kinda like high school.
Is it a waste of [insert term]? It's your resource, do as you please. If you want 3 shiny brightly painted bots and not the 4th or 5th slot, then that's the way you roll. It's not advised, but your resource your game.

My take on this:
Remember, not everyone who plays is broke. And, not everyone who plays wants to grind out every part of the game. Sometimes, the very thing that gives me the ability to buy things in the game, is what causes me to need a quicker path to whatever it is, due to the amount of time it takes up in my day to day life. A job.
I'm an adult, with a job, and if I choose to spend on the game, that is my choice. I grind out my Ag and don't speed upgrades very often, just because I enjoy progressing slowly in the leveling aspect of the game. But, I LIKE the skins for some bots. That is the entire reason to get them. Not because it is better, but strictly because I like the way the Lance looks in that darker, blue and gold skin... and the blue dragon Fujin is cool, and the new Gala and Gary skins? Better believe I like them. Now, personally, I haven't gotten any but a few of the 750 skins and maybe a 1500, will have to look to be sure, but the 2500 skins are a bit much for me. If someone else thinks that it is worth it to them to get... so be it. In this case, the value of the skins is relative.
If I was not spending on the game at all, for whatever reason, and I was still hoarding Au for any bot or weapon purchases, then I would call skins a waste. Otherwise, it is strictly adding aesthetic enjoyment to the game for the purchaser.
I really do like the vampire skin for the Patton, and the Raven skin for the Griff, 2 of the best skins IMO... and both the Panda and the Lava skins for the Fury, but not enough to spend the same amount of gold on them as for a Galahad. Seems a bit much... unless I win it in an event or something, I can't see doing that. Not saying I won't ever... but right now... and especially with the current state of the game being what it is... I am not buying any skins unless the new Gala and Gary skins are in the 750 - 1500 range, and they fix the issues that are keeping us from playing.

Yep, it's like sonsofsam says.
It may be a waste, to someone who can't afford it, for someone to buy an expensive vehicle when they could save a lot of money by getting something that is functionally equivalent in a basic sense. On the other end of the spectrum, it's probably a waste of that money for someone not to use it when they have plenty of extra.
It's all perspective and personal desire that determines whether it is a waste or not.
Someone who can buy a Lamborghini but can then only afford to live in a dump may be deemed as wasteful. However, from their perspective, if that is all they ever wanted then by all means then that money spent is definitely not a waste!

Do whatever you want with your gold. Some people like the cool looking paint jobs, and if you enjoy it I say do it.
From a strategic standpoint, there is no benefit to them. Like some have said, it's even a disadvantage at times because you might end up being targeted.

Yes its a waste of gold. I bought some skin, but it intimidates your enemies and then they all gang up on you Exactly - I'm not going to buy skins so I can blend in more. With the mix of TT pilots I play within, the painted bots seem to attract more attention. when I hit 12/12 I'll probably buy some.

Paint job sucks because it's soooo expensive, and it doesn't do anything. If your job is on sales marketing, Pixonic should market a feature-plus for buying paint jobs--extra health or like an extra protective physical shield--depends on the value of paint job.
Now, everyone will be happy.

It's not a waste if you can quickly aggro everyone on the red team and have them focus you down. Tactically it'd be good for tough to kill bots like Lances or super long range bots.
Their priority however comes after getting all your slots, bots and weapons though.

Personally, I'm all for Pix making more revenue on skins as it reduces the chances of them needing to create some overpowered weapon/bot to try to get folks to pony up cash. Seeing that TF2 is free to play paid for by hats, it's not a terrible business model either.
As for the skins themselves, if it makes people happy, more power to them. This game is supposed to be fun, and sometimes just wanting your robot to be awesome looking is part of the allure even at the expense of maximizing your performance.

hi if I were to paint my Bo this is what I was going to do, but use silver metallic, or the same gold, on the bottom. Anyone know where a shop is that could do the Beech logo on the tail??? as my friend Lucky Patcher Kodi did

It's not a waste of gold! It's a good way to spot the whales (or people with too much gold) and put a big target on their butt!

I have about 5K in gold tied up in skins on Griffs I haven't used in months. I have skinned rogs and doc, again, I don't use them. So I would say, no, not worth it. The new skins suck. I prefer the dash OG style. I have the blue fury skin, which I love.

Personally, I like the skins. It makes your bot unique. If you're worried about attracting attention, you're probably not good enough to play with the big boys anyway. The more Reds target me, the more opportunities I have for inflicting damage. I purchased a skin for my Destrier during the tutorial and I think it looks good. I've kept my bots I've won in their skins from the events. Why drive a Pinto if you can afford to drive a Vette? I've been eyeing the shark skin for the Griffin for a while, but I can't afford it yet. I have to buy my Orcs first. I bought my first Lance last week. Maybe I'll get a Galahad or a Gareth?

It's OK to post to a year-old thread as long as you post the same thing twice and it doesn't make any sense either time.

I swear my Griffin runs better with the shark paint. It's kind of like washing your car after a big snow storm. Doesn't it seem to run better?

There is no tactical advantage to paint, but they look good. I've not bought any, some have them all. Just depends what you want to spend your gold on.
