I just made it to Champion Leauge today (see my other post).
I'm kinda confused... I'm in Champion 50. 50?!?!?
How am I going to get anywhere if I am in Champion Leauge 50?!?!?!

Champion league has a bunch of different leagues because each rank is broken down into 40 player segmentations for the sake of MM.
There's no real metric once you're in champion league other than staying in it and collecting winged cups at the end of each month. My goal is to get my trophy count as high as possible every month and try to beat my record. Lately I'm ending each month around 6500 rank trophies, which gives me 1500 winged cups on my profile.

Every month all the folks in champs are ranked in order of league points(resets every month). Each league segment have 100 in it, meaning you are currently ranked in about 5,000 place, give or take. The top 50 are the legend league. When you first get into champs you are obviously at the bottom. As was said it doesn't really mean much. You will rise as you gain league points. Most of the league positioning in champs is down to activity levels. I don't really pay much if any attention to which league I'm in. It doesn't mean much as long as you are staying above 5,000 league points (if you drop below you have to re qualify).

The league score resets at the end of each season, and then those in Champ can compete in who can clock most hours playing the game... paying money to get good gear also helps of course, but I'd say it at most halves the needed hours for certain league score at the end of season.
