I cannot play for long consecutive hours, so my realistic goal was the Ancile in this event. This morning I was 68 beacons away from the goal. So I did these: (1) play Domination only, (2) play more aggressively with beacons, meaning - going to the closest beacon even if a teammate is heading there (usually I wouldn't) and starting with a Stalker in larger maps rather than saving it until the end, (3) skip the ritual after each battle - I always stay until the end, take a screenshot of the result, review the captured video, and cut out only the footage of the bot who performed the best or otherwise interesting. I skipped this and leave the battle when I meched out early. I finished in about four hours. Win% dropped from 68% to 52%, League standing dropped from 4408 (qualification for master2) to 4359, average damage from 559,895 to 484,860, and total win from 2360 to 2372. Accumulated about 40M silver while a Zeus was being upgraded to level 11. Plus, of course, my first Ancile During the stretch, I had this embarrassing moment: war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/post/230011And met this bunch of guys: And this would be an exmaple of playing "aggressively" for beacons: link to the video (720p)And last but not least, I found a Gareth in my storage must be one of those free bronze chest, since I don't remember getting it from a silver chest. wow does anybody run a Gareth these days? will some of new weapons be better for it? maybe I will run it in the second hangar for Domination/larger maps, alternating with the Stalker... ... anyways, this will be it for 2017. my wife will be home tomorrow, so I will go back to my normal mode - barely clearing the daily tasks. I have some silver, so I can upgrade the Ancile, Gareth, etc. while waiting for the next time I care to grind. I wish everyone happy holidays and happy new year see you next year!!

And a happy new year to you too good sir.
Well done on the Gary and the Ancile. Still see a few garys runing around, albeit a short run and a quick end.

I don't run any DIE gear, so my bots are all legacy and would not be recommended anymore. I still can run almost any line up, and have decent games. If I run any low DPS bots like a Stalker, then it has to survive a long time and I need to be constantly shooting at someone's back to make up the difference. THe main problem, is letting most of my teammates die, so I had one game on Canyon where I lasted too long like 5 minutes starting with the Stalker, and the game ended soon after. Got like 300K or so with only that bot. I was deep in enemy territory, and they would spawn on their weak side beacon. I'd shoot at them as soon as they spawn, go into Stealth, and me and a teammate would finish them off with my blue mate taking too much heat. I survived to help finish off 3 guys, so pretty good for a little bot, but lost the war.
If you're a Master+, then depending on your teammates, they are expected to deal a lot of dmg fast to keep the teams even. So hanger management is necessary if you want to use those bots. IOW, there's some other Champion on red tearing through your team, so you have to do the same.
With fast bots, I would try to be the flanker and put pressure on them. I use a Rhino to flank, so can get some pretty hard hits in before dying. On the snow map, I find flanking and surrounding them is key, so they can't hide and someone should have an angle and get past any shielding. I had to boost my Ancilot over from the left bridge over to the right bridge as I saw all the blues on my side and getting nowhere. Once we had a good crossfire going, they starting going down like flies. They had centre beacon too, so we almost won that game by meching them out but we ran out of beacon bar.
For some reason today I had a lot of games on that map, but some games I'll have to go up the middle and up the ramp to distract them. One game, my Galahad went deep on their half of the map under the open bridge, then I had to huff it over back to our side of the map near the entrance to the covered bridge to try to surround them. Ancilots are really tough to crack through the front. It is annoying, because most reds are good enough to understand flanking, so they're either back off or play ring-around-the-posey around some structure.
I found out today that a Rhino can't chase down a Shocktrain Kumiho. I actually chased that little rabbit all the way back to his base, and ended up capping their home beacon on Yamantau. I didn't kill him, but he did destroy his bot to defend home, so pretty much mission accomplished in my book. Then I spawned back at home, and ran into 3+ Shocktrain reds, and had nothing else to counter them on such an open map. 100K, my lowest score in a long while. I think if it was a Shocktrain Roachi, I would have caught up to it and killed it, but I'll have to see.
Anyway, there's not too many bots with 500m rockets like Tridents and RDB, so fast bots like Rhino, Galahad, and Gareth make great counters to chase down Zeus Fury, laser Leos, and Shocktrain platforms.

If I were to get 1 Vortex, it'd go on my Gareth with an Aphid. Other than that, the only good weapon load out for the Gareth these days is Taran/Magnum and to go Carnage and Fujin hunting. With Vortex/Aphid, it would be like running a faster, sturdier Aphid Gepard. I need a fast Aphid chucker in my second hangar which is more geared towards long range maps, so a Vortex/Aphid Gareth would fit right in.
