While browsing the new warrobots.net I stumbled upon this throwaway line in their post outlining plans for 2018 "we are reworking Workshop so it will produce pretty much anything you need."
Could it be that the workshop will be rejigged so we can decide which component we want to produce? That would be a nice change from the current shopping for hopelessly bundled offers.
Thoughts?

Sounds plausible. It'll likely be 1 component every 4 hours or something stupid.

This was floating around from the introduction of components, I believe. And to be honest, it should've come then.
In fact, the components are not that different from buying stuff for Ag or Au. You have fixed amount of components (10 000) that, as it is now, you can buy for varying amounts of $$$. The same can be said about the Ag and Au purchases with the exception that there is a different amount of components (1) and you can pay with in-game currencies. It is the WS that's different. You have varying amounts of components (+ time) for a fixed price.
So, in principle, there could be just one place to buy anything and it would be the WS. It could offer various components (of your choosing!!!)- some available for Ag or Au outright, some would take time to manufacture (replacing WSP and possibly components as a currency). The prices would be different to represent the value, of course (and it's the value that is often questionable).
This could be great as it could mean a return to just two main currencies (and keys) and to some semblance of normalcy. Let's see how PIX could screw that up.

It seems like the gold deals are ridiculously expensive although I haven't given a lot of thought to the silver > gold exchange rate.
I get the impression that using gold to make WSP then using those on the deals is a better exchange rate (can't quantify). I think that Pix uses the "new math" when figuring out deals. You know, that math where it takes seven pieces of paper to solve a division problem.....
Anyway, I would love to be able to buy components directly for WSP.

This would be great. Also, considering that the Exorcist and Strider will dominate the game soon, if they allow us all to get components easily for dashes then at least the gear we have wouldn't be totally obsolete against them.

And what will the catch be? Current ones are red carrot mechanisms. why would this be different?

I saw the Strider mentioned in the test server download notes, and several times on the Forum since the weekend. I ran Android simulation several times over the weekend, and I never saw the Strider. I did sims with Exorcist (such a stupid name), but I never saw Strider.

I wonder if this means the current WSP items will become component items? And does ‘produce anything we need’ mean gold and silver too or is everything going component?

The "Exorcist?" Really? What, does it's head spin around while it spits massive quantities of pea soup at you? Ugh. Just waiting for "Hellraiser," the bot that flays and tortures you... then they can put out "Damien"...

I wouldn't even mind if you converted WP to components
Say a Storm would have a 2 to 1 ratio (1 WP for 2 components)
Inquisito couldcost 50k WP and I wouldn't even mind.
