warrobots.net/en/posts/173?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=gamemodes2018q1Here's the info if you don't want to click on the article: King of the Hill (KotH) Winter 2018 After another TDM run we’ll be introducing King of the Hill. In this mode teams are fighting over one active beacon. As one team controls the beacon, it receives points, but each beacon has a limited amount of points in it. Once its reserves are depleted, this beacon shuts down — and another one becomes active. Match goes until one team has enough points to win or until the timer goes to zero KotH already creates some very interesting dynamics. The team that grabs the beacon first receives a significant advantage, so fast robots are really useful here. Once pushing the enemy away, teams have to hold the ground firmly. Long-rangers can help with that, thinning the enemy lines as they approaches — but have in mind that KoTH maps, just as in TDM 2.0, will have more cover overall, and when enemies manage to reach the beacons, snipers will have a very hard time defending. So don’t bank on snipers too much. Free-for-All (FFA) Spring 2018 This is the simplest one to explain: everyone on the battlefield fight for themselves. It’s a chance to prove yourself and only yourself, as you don’t have to rely on your teammates in Free-for-All. As this mode implies very different gameplay even by its concept, there are many very, very experimental concepts we want to try in it. We'll tell you more about what we have in mind closer to FFA release. Team Deathmatch Overhaul Update 3.5 Team Deathmatch scratched the same itch for many players: why bothering about beacons if all you need is killing? In this next revision TDM we want to give more opportunities for people preferring close combat. Initially, they had a hard time keeping up with snipers on larger maps, so we're addressing this. Spawn zones tweaks
On every map each team will have 3 locations to start from. More to that, everyone will be be able to choose the initial spawn location. If you’re a brawler — go ahead and start closer to the enemy, if you’re a sniper — spawn on the far sides of the map, and so on. We are also highlighting these locations on the map, so you will know where you opponents might appear. More cover
When there are beacons to capture, vast open spaces make sense. They are dangerous, but you HAVE to cover them in order to reach the beacon and bring your team the points. In TDM there are no beacons to care about and open fields simply become the places of no-go. So on large and open maps (think: Springfield, Yamantau and Canyon) it becomes very frustrating to play against snipers. To give knife-fighters more opportunities to shine, we added more cover on these maps. At this point — exclusively for TDM. Let me know what you think.

More modes will divide the player base further unless they want to implement random mode for everything, which makes sense to push their new hanger system. I have zero interested in FFA.

Extra cover looks crappy, I hope they take the time to redesign it a little for each map.

I hope they don't make Beacon Rush a mixed mode again, FFS.
Put Domination in rotation with other new modes at least, so the sniper hanger people can stay happy and I can keep playing BR.

I remember Transformers: War for Cybertron (the only mech game that I played online much) had a game mode. I can`t remember the name of the mode, but it was basically like American Football. Basically, one bot would pick up this item. Once picked up, the bot could no longer fire weapons and could only melee attack. The melee attack was a once hit kill though. The bot had to take the item into the enemy`s home base. All the friendly bots had to escort him and protect him.
I would love to see something like that in War Robots!

Holy cow the extra cover looks stupid.
KotH sounds like it might have promise.
No interest in FFA. None in TDM. Heck, I have no interest in BR.
Spawn zone tweaks will just make Domination more like BR.
Sigh. The future is going to hurt.

Free for all will just be a heavy bot slugfest. To make it interesting, they should limit it to lights and mediums - no dashes.

Domination, Beacon Rush, King of the Hill, TDM and Free for All will all exist n sone form as two choices due to MM.
I feel that Domination should always exist independantly from the rest always but it proly wont work out smoothly at all.

The only way they can implement all these modes with the player base we have is to make every game random. With the amount of hate that putting two opposite game modes together on a random basis created, I'm so looking forward to the waves of flames coming soon. Also, it's going to be brawlers' Christmas forever: BR, TDM, FFA, KotH all favour sheer grunt power. Dom is the only one where maneuvering, speed and mid range support counts for something (which is also the reason why I agree with ᴛʜᴇ ʙɪɢ ᴅʀᴏᴘ, keep Dom separate from the rest, in case). Oh, Joy.... EDIT:Why am I back to Rog level? And what is this quarantine thing?

I like the idea of FFA. I’ve had this in mind for a while. I absolutely really really like the idea of KOTH. That one I believe has the potential to be great.
With that said, I really liked the idea of TDM too. Then I played it.
I wonder if they understand that the chief complaint about TDM (that I noticed and felt anyway) was not so much “big open spaces” or “getting killed crossing the map”. It was was that no one had a reason to move at all. There were games where I crossed the map just fine without getting hit once. The problem was that when I got to the red side, I was the only one and got obliterated by 3-4 reds whine the rest of my team sat back at our spawn.
With no objective there’s no reason to move. Whichever team moves in first usually loses. So both teams sit back waiting for the other two come to them. It’s as fun watching and waiting for water to boil.

Thanks for the share OP! KOtH was fun on test server and allowed the use of different mechs and mech classes. Not sure how the other two modes are but FfA sounds like brawlers territory. I wish they made a map solely for all light and or medium mechs. I share the sentiment. The new cover should look organic to the map, not like it rained down steel sheets. It might actually be more fun to make them semi transparent.

Looks designed to force multiple hangers and more spend. All of the new modes cater to different and very narrow builds. If you can't choose your game mode, your're going to need a hanger for each mode - with associated cost - or become krill for whales.

EDIT:Why am I back to Rog level? And what is this quarantine thing? Admin and Mods had to implement a quarantine plug-in to prevent the sick bunny images posted by new puppet accounts a couple of days ago. No idea idea about levels changing, but Rog is cool, don’t dis the Rog.... ?

I like the modes but FFA seems like the true whales land, of course you won't survive against a hanger full of Shocktrains and Haechies with your Griffins and Lancelots, so it's more likely the one with more overpowered gear will survive. KotH seems great and encourages people to run and defend the beacons, but on the test server, many people seemed confused with it not knowing what to do, so they need to put some kind of a tutorial or something for people who have no idea about the test server and others that don't understand English very well to understand their patch notes. Actually the whole game needs a full tutorial on all the game modes and what to do in all of them, I know some people who deleted this game because they had no idea what is it all about. Also the many game modes will affect the players pool, unless they put a random mode, but I hope they don't mix the modes that aren't about beacons with the ones that are about them, like TDM with Dom and BR with FFA.

This is called CTF or Capture the Flag. One player takes the flag and everyone tries to protect that player or destroy him, and if the flag is fallen, another player would grab the flag. I remember the mech game Heavy Gear 2 also has this. This game is particularly unique for its mechs which can skate across the arena all day long.

More modes will divide the player base further unless they want to implement random mode for everything, which makes sense to push their new hanger system. I have zero interested in FFA. That is eventually where they are leading. In fact, in one of the test server versions, you have no choices but a random mode that either goes into domination or beacon rush. And that should not be a surprise since that is basically how every other PvP game is played. Except for Mechwarrior Online, which allows the players to vote for the game mode, of the two randomly offered game modes. Tough luck if democracy didn't choose the game mode you want.

I think the way to have all the separate gametypes is to keep the standard gametype (i.e. Domination), and rotate the other gametypes for say, one week at a time

I can only say for FFA... it will be epic as hell for anyone. Why? If you do not maintain target lock on one target, can you imagine how many Gekkos/Zeuses/Trebuchets/Shocktrains/Hydras etc will constantly switch target?
I mean.. it'll be havoc all over the place! Just imagine a PuniGriff turning round and round, those bullets will make the sky look like it's raining horizontally...
