I've been slapped from Expert and raised on golden pillows from Diamond so many times in the past week that I don't know my @55 from my elbow anymore.
What I have noticed however is that there is a stark difference in bots I have to face if I'm in the Expert league compared to Diamond 3, even though my league points difference might only be 50.
Because there are usually player from a number of leagues in a match I assumed the MM used league points, and not the actual league as a basis for matching. I reckon this is actually the case since there is usually a substantial difference in a player's hangar and skill level between 2900 when he enters Diamond 1 and 3199. So i don't think it makes too much difference to MM whether you're Diamond 1 or 2 or 3, you get matched according to your points.
Once you play in Expert its like a free for all. So much so, that playing yesterday when I came across my first Dash bot in many games and when I checked my league ranking I saw that I had just been upped to Expert 1. I dipped back down into Diamond again last night and sure enough, the dashes and the scourges and the champs vanished.
IMO, the bots and players you encounter differ markedly right along the Diamond1/Expert3 divide.
Further to this, I don't believe that your hangar is entirely excluded from the MM algorithm either. I get really p'd when I have to face lvl12 Dash Bot hangars that are in the bronze league but if they're bronze why is MM pitting them against me whose been between Diamond3 Expert2 for months? If I check out a gold player I have to play against often his hangar isn't too bad - he should be in Diamond anyway.

I notice the difference just between D2 & D1 on iOS.
In D2, the highest I see regularly is one or two E3's. I saw a couple E2's in a game ONE time (one on each side) in probably 500 games in D2.
In D1 however, I start facing all the way up to champs (a few per game), plenty of masters, full clan squads, full dash hangars every game, etc.
The difference just between those 2 leagues is absolutely staggering.

I stayed at Diamond and Expert League the longest before I reached ios Champions League around 1-2 month ago. I believe Expert League- Champions League will face each other very often, or even in the same MM. I also believe this MM bracket is harder than 1-2 month ago when there weren’t any Dash bots, I reached 8000+ League rating last season, but only floating around ~5800 League rating now with higher level hanger than last season.
There are few benefit play against higher league player. In higher league, they use cover better, they count enemies cd, they are much more patient, they checked the red bot/weapons before engaging, they look for a partner before engaging tough red etc. Once you learn that, you will be a better player.
I have ~10.5/11.5 hanger now, I find myself is weaker in this bracket compare to when I reached iOS Champions League with 9/10 hanger, the new weapons and bots which are not friendly to the bots I am using. For example, my RDB Griffin isn’t as effective as before - damage nerfed, more Ancile bots , more Dash bots (they dodge), more damage taken from 600m+ mid range (Scourge + buffed Zeus and Tempest)

I started before Summer event and won all available gear from both events -- 3 tempest, 2 scouge, kumiho, 2 lances, 2 anciles, 2 orkans -- and all of my stuff is 8.2/8.4 average or kinetics like punishers that I chose b/c of the 2x damage vs armor and b/c they were nerfing rockets. I usually draw opponents running 10-12 hangars but older stryle bots. It is pretty even fight but I always feel the weapons give me an edge despite level differential. It means a lot of soft defense and playing conservative -- 2 level 8 orkans like I have fired from a kumiho still do less damage than 2 level 10's fired from a rhino.

I’ve experienced this too at the D1-E3 boundary. In diamond there’s often a couple expert or gold players pulled in, but sometimes I’m the pull in a mostly expert or gold battle. I have a second account in gold and the same situation happens with diamond and silver. But when I made it into expert 3 a few times the battles are suddenly half champions, it breaks the pattern. My understanding is the player pool is low above expert and you get pulled way up so masters and champions don’t have to wait too long for a battle.
