I'm currently building a (mid?) silver hanger. The majority of the hanger is Light/Medium as I like the speed. I am leveling up to 7/9 (Stalker, Gary, Galahad, Carnage) with a mix of plasma, Zeus/Trident mid-range and rockets. I thought to add a Heavy and have one Griffin, Leo at lvl 6. An obvious purchase would be a Rhino.
I see a few recommendations for Heavies at 6/8. What tier is this and where do heavies become mid-silver?
My initial impression is that 6/8 seems slow and gets crushed by Gep/Aphids?!
What level would you suggest starting to run heavies to get some decent practise.
P.s. DB Griffin and RDB Griffin - any advice on targetting when jumping. I've launched into numerous well timed jump attacks, only for the majority of the rockets to fly overhead / also firing on Yama on a hill, the rockets tend to eat dirt?! any solutions

1. 6/8 Heavy is already high silver, from what I can tell. MM has been kinda screwy lately, but that's what I know from experience. 2. Since most heavies have a base level of L6, it's really not advisable to use them below gold. Mainly because, as you said, the faster bots seem to get the better of them, not to mention they're allowed to have higher levels and better weapons. You can, for example, put a 6/8 heavy with a 7/9 medium and still be in more or less the same tier. I suggest starting to use heavies at 7/9 so they get a speed boost. They get better at 9/10. 3. DB/RDB - not sure what you mean, but just in case - the main difference between rocket weapons and plasma/guns is that rocket weapons only point at your target when they're within range. Otherwise, they're pointing straight forward. So if you jump, then fire your rockets while your target is just outside your range, the rockets will just shoot straight until you get within range. 4. Launching weapons downhill seems to be some kind of bug, yes. If you're on center beacon and a red is making its way up, there's a chance those rockets just fly past your target and explode behind them.

As far as Griffin jump attacks - this is an art with rockets and more things can go wrong than right. You mentioned rockets hitting dirt and rickets flying overhead - these are my observations: -Overhead rockets even in target lock. This occurs when I jump horizontally and some other red target in the distance gets locked on while I am firing. Since I have to aim significantly behind a target when firing in a horizontal jump, any target crossing my path can steal the aim away from my actual target. This happens so much that have to make sure that no other red targets are down range before I perform the hortizontal jump attack with rockets - which is the only way I've been able to solve this problem. -Rockets hitting dirt. This occurs for only 3 reason that I can see. The main one is that the target is backpeddling when you are firing and you are hitting the dirt in front of them --- there's nothing you can do about this except NOT to fire at fast bots (45KPH+) that are already retreating if they are over 200m away (if you have Orkans or Pinatas - Tulumbas will hit). The 2nd reason is that your target lead for bots moving horizontally is not large enough (lead is usually severely under estimated). You have to practice this, but the lead on a bot moving horizontally to you while you are moving in the opposite direction at >200m is actually more than one full target bot ahead of the red bot (very similar to the trailing distance target of a hortizontal jump). So if you are aiming reticle is actually on the bot target box on a moving target at distance, you will be guaranteed miss. The 3rd reason is lag. The target is just not where you see it and with the small splas diameter of Orks/Pinatas, it's a miss if even slight lag is occurring (this is the reason I don't play this game when not on fast Wifi). High Bronze is the best tier to practice with Griffins, as there are plenty of fast light bots and if you master the 200-300m lead aiming and horizontal jump attack trailing aim, you'll think Griffins are the best bot in this game (I can't see playing the game without them at this point).

frunobulax - you make a good point....even at lvl 6 Griffin with 7/7/7/7 Im MM against very strong opposition! And it's too squishy.
What's the best level to get bot and weapons to if I am playing 7/9 hanger with lights and mediums?

Leo is pretty good at base lvl. It's the only silver heavy that has more than 100k health fresh from the box. It's pretty good imo with thunder and triple piñatas

When you jump horizontally, the horizontal velocity of the robot affects the trajectory of the rockets you launch while in the air. For example, if you jump left, your rockets will go somewhat left of where you would expect. You will need to adjust for this in your aim, so if you jump left, the targeting reticule will need to be a little bit to the right of your target (it seems to be about two robots away, for me, but you'll want to practice/experiment with this yourself, of course), and vice versa.

I would try running an Orkan on a Cossack and practice jumping and hitting targets.
