No, we aren't putting heavy weapons in light slots.
What is happening is that six variants of the Trebuchet will soon make it to the test server to be used in light and medium slots, and only those slots. Think of them like ECUs.

I wondered why I saw a Griffin with 4 Trebs in the video Pix released

I'm going to guess that the multi-color trebs on the announcement are just generic "filler," to limit expectations for these test weapons. Don't want to show off all these cool weapons to everybody, and then say, oh well, we're dumping all of them. I would be certainly disappointed if it truly was testing 6 variations of the same weapon. We'll know soon enough.

There are no LoS (Line of Sight or super-long range) medium weapons, it's a big gap in the spread of weapon types and sizes. A Fujin with Tulus makes a decent mid-ranger, and with Orkans makes a helluva knife fighter (close range), but there's no way to make it a LoS sniper.
Light weapons have Gekkos for LoS (don't laugh, 15% damage buff coming soon), and of course Trebs and Kang Daes on the heavy end. So this bit from Pixo is actually a pleasant surprise.
Hypersonic flaming potatoes rule!

So, um... They're buffing the Gekko and then releasing weapons which will make it obsolete?
Guess who won't be jumping onto the upcoming Gekko train...
Jokes aside though, looking forward to new weapons. I hope they don't release all six. Probably it's just variations anyway, 2-3 of which will see final release.

I meant it half as a joke, a jab at the constant buff/nerf cycles for weapons.
That aside, they may or may not be more powerful than Gekkos (comparing Gekko to Trebuchet/Trebuchet light). No way to know before release, of course.
.... or, fingers crossed, they'll be an entirely new weapon type, with new looks, effects, usage etc.

Mid-range medium plasma would be cool. So would a long range heavy missile. Actually, long range Med missiles would be good, and long range Med plasma. Wonder what heavy short range plasma would be like. Zeus is heavy mid-range.
A heavy auto canon would be cool. A Boffers style double barrel deal. Barrels alternate fire. Couple second in between barrels and volleys. A few rds per barrel, then a reload.

Autocannons, flamethrowers, grenades... There's no shortage of SF (WH 40k maybe) or even real world weaponry Pixonic could take some inspiration from.

it also showed how it would be color coated (at least with the filler) to have yellow for light, blue for medium, and red for heavy treb. I found this from the golem with all trebs

Developers seemingly have too much going on. The protolot was presented months ago, but no mention of that weapon for weeks.
A medium Treb is all we need, they shouldn't waste their time with a light version.

A medium Treb is all we need, they shouldn't waste their time with a light version. The word is that it will be this month... maybe next... but that it IS coming. A word on the TS. Just bc they take something out of the TS, doesn't mean it's not coming. It means that they got the data they were looking for at that particular point in development, for that particular weapon/bot/mechanic. Refinement and changes can happen without the need of the TS, and releases can be planned to happen at later dates for other reasons than that they are ready. Since they never actually said they weren't releasing it, I never gave up waiting. What I think that they did leave out, fortunately, are the 2.5x shield multiplier and, unfortunately, the RoF increase if left firing for over 5 secs. I think the expectations many have about that weapon stem from its performance on the TS. But it will not be near as good as it was there without those other pieces of the puzzle, so it will be interesting to see if they struck the right balance.

goodbye Fury Tridents Trebs just do not have much punch in upper gold in my experience. Tridents are shield busters, Trebs are good against light bots and medium bots seem to do limited damage to higher lvl heavies IMO

I can't judge for gold, but up to silver, Trebs can be a nuisance, but not more. Where do you really have maps where you can safely snipe from more than 500-600m distance? A CRV Pin has the same (cycle) DPS as a Treb, Tulums about 30% more, Tridents about twice as much, Zeus has more than 3 times the DPS (but no splash).
In many, many battles in the last week(s) I had exactly one battle where I was really bothered by a Treb robot. It was a 2xTreb Rajin on Canyon and I just couldn't get within 350m with my knifers until the end. My rocket Golem went down, and my teammates didn't take it out or didn't have mid range weapons. But that was blatant a strategic mistake on our side (random team of course), and we still won the battle in the end. Even on Yama you can get within 500m using some cover.

It's more of a nuisance if you are in a Gepard, Stalker or Gareth and you're caught off guard and lose half your health, maybe even Carnage

They are just using the trebs in place of individual models, likely because rhymes aren't made yet and they are testing or other key factors of weapons using existing models and animations. They said as much on their FB post I believe.
No, they aren't putting Trebs on light bots.
Simmer down folks.
