Apologies for the abbreviated title - there weren't enough characters to get the message across in proper english. This is a rant about those players that try to block you from the beacon, or compete with you to get the beacon first, even at the cost of their own demise. Players who charge into the beacon just to get ahead of you even if their weapons are out of range of the enemy bot that's covering the beacon, while said enemy bot is in range of both of us. Players who have no concept of TEAMWORK, and don't realise that YOU GET NO GOLD AT ALL if our TEAM DOESN'T WIN. i.e. WORK WITH YOUR OTHER TEAMMATES to get the most number of beacons or kill off as many enemies as you can, WHICH YOU CAN ONLY DO IF YOU :_AND_: YOUR TEAMMATES SURVIVE LONG ENOUGH TO DO SO.
So, I've been playing mostly mid-gold tier for the last few months, most bots level 9, levelling weapons to an average of 10, ave score ~400+ (not that great because I get pulled down really badly in the games with 1 or 2 players who bail (0 damage at the scoreboard), with the opponent team playing well (or just with 3 or more Treb/trident furies covering all the angles).
It's mostly been ok, sometimes you get paired up with players who know what to do, i.e. those who know that TEAMWORK wins the battle - how to back each other up, combine firepower on one enemy or take another down while they're disctracted, etc.
It used to be that the matchmaker hooks me up with idiots maybe half the time. That's ok, because generally, there'll be maybe two other players who know how to play to win, and if you're not up against an enemy team that knows how to work together, and play smart, I can usually carry the match with ~600-800 damage at the end, sometimes even with 2-3 beacons. However today, almost EVERY GAME (>20), I've encountered multiple teammates, some with maxed hangers:
- Who try to block me, or purposely speed up to suicide capture the beacon (usually griffin or lancelot), as
- Don't protect the beacons we already have (especially home beacons) by constantly looking at the battlefield situation, i.e which enemy bots are heading for the home beacons to focus fire on them, and just run for new beacons or kills and rush into certain death while doing so, or who don't bother with beacons at all - are they even looking at the beacon bar? Do they know the beacon bar exists? Like, sometimes even though we're down 4-1 beacons, and there's a beacon close to them, that they can get to without dying, and can get cover once they're there, or even sustaining no damage along the way, they don't even bother.
- Stay in their one camping bot the whole match, even when the enemy has overrun the middle beacon and is spread out in a wave, almost at our spawn point (i.e. GOOD TEAMWORK on their end).
- Run off on their own into situations where they get surrounded by multiple enemies and die almost instantly.
- Don't even attempt to help cover someone who's almost at the enemy home or next closest beacons - e.g. If I'm in a Rhino, trying to flank or break through the Fury treb lines to get to them/capture the enemy spawn beacon and some enemy bot in the middle beacon gets me from behind; and after I die, I see that even though members of my team are close enough to fire at the enemy at middle beacon, they just sit there trying to get to other enemies not in range, or hiding.
How did these players get into gold tiers - how did they get enough gold to max weapons and bots even? How did they get into clans!?!? I've run plenty of silver games where the players (solo players even) are MUCH better at teamwork than many of those in gold. Seriously, these n00bs need to get a clue.
Rant over...no longer steaming mad...can play again now...
