FYI - Community update from Tofsla below. In Summary: 1, FFA and TDM are merged into one game mode on a rotating basis. 2, Players are stuck with the SilverRush and can keep paying more for upgrades as many have predicted when it was introduced.
Merging two modes into one game queue seems like a player base related issue. If there are sufficient number of players, why cut availability in half and thereby effectively getting rid of one queue? The other thing I can think of is that people in FFA and TDM share a common characteristics and the current monetisation push is not working well on that group hence the change in an attempt to get them to spend. The other periodic game modes are either a red herring or a new monetisation avenue.
Whatever is the case it will be interesting to see how all this unfolds. I feel like we have a player base related issue but Pix is not willing to change its current monetisation strategy.
Community Update: follow-up on Rotating Modes, and Silver Rush
Hey, it's Tofsla again. In the latest Community Update two weeks ago I spoke about our plan on introducing Rotating Game Modes. We got a bunch of feedback since then, and now I am getting back to you with a follow up.
Addressing Feedback on Rotating Modes
First of all, there was some confusion regarding Rotating Modes in general. First of all, does this addition mean we go back to the old Quick Match-only days? No, not at all. You will be able to select game modes just as before. The addition of Rotating Modes means that some modes will come and go, and every now and then you will be getting new things to try. We’ll start with things like 3v3 Beacon Rush, Squad-Only TDM, or 3-minute FFA, and then explore more out-there variations later on.
To paint you a clearer picture, let’s look at how many matchmaking queues you will have available at Rotating Modes’ launch. Level 30 players from all major platforms will be able to pick between 6 of them.
These 4 remain unchanged:
• Quick Match. If you want a quick morning cup of War Robots and don’t care which game mode you'll get, you go for this option
• Domination. Our classic beacon-focused mode
• Beacon Rush. You know this one, too
• Extermination. PvE horde mode. Stages and rewards refreshed weekly
And these 2 are new. They will take spots currently occupied by regular Free-for-all and Team Deathmatch queues.
• Rotating Modes. A queue with an experimental mode, “mode of the day”, Skirmish, Arena, or something else entirely. In the first month of operations, we plan on switching modes daily but may adjust the rotation period later on
• Free-for-all / Team Deathmatch. In this queue, modes will also switch daily but it’s only between FFA and TDM. One day you will see FFA here, next day it will be TDM, then FFA again, and so on.
Note the addition of the last queue. We’ve looked at the concerns coming from dedicated FFA / TDM players (you guys weren't exactly thrilled by the idea that your favorite mode will be shuffled into a massive unpredictable rotation – fair enough!), and tweaked the initial plan: rather than putting FFA and TDM into a general pile of Rotating Modes, we run them in a separate queue where two modes alternate on a daily basis. This way we still avoid bloating up the number of queues, but also make FFA and TDM more readily available.
Now, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
Flash News
• It's now official: Silver Rush is over... but with a twist. We launched that event as an economy experiment last Fall. Now we see it as a resolute success and make the Silver Rush numbers permanent. Took us long enough! But it’s been worth it so far. The Silver income uplift for higher leagues has worked out well, and upgrades now flow way more smoothly with MK2 becoming more attainable for all tiers of play.
• Yes, a new map is coming, and quite soon too. Check out the recent Predator video from the test server to see how its work-in-progress version plays. And yes, I'm intentionally downplaying this news bit, so we can make a big announcement later. But even if you go ahead and tell everyone about it coming within, say, months, be assured: this map still has something to surprise you with, something that you haven’t seen yet. Stay tuned!
***
That’s about it for today, looking forward to reading your thoughts. See you soon!

Well, that's really not good. Looks like we'll be stuck with experts in champion league forever. Interesting touches about new gamemodes. I'm always up for a new gamemode. Will be interesting to see what they come up with! And how much tickets it will cost, or gold or something. 「fluffernutter」ing silver rush, that's going to cost me so much more stuff.

"now we see it as a resolute success".
For who?
At least now I know I don't have to spend the gold to get things to mk2.1 anymore. Most likely just leave things mk1.12 and wait for the next round of nerf/release cycles and start again. Although it seems they are getting stingy again in regards to accessibility to new content.

Folks have been dooming-and-glooming the impending demise for years. But this time it’s true.
MyGames thought they could be even more abusive to players than MailRU. They were wrong and now the game is in a death spiral.
Players start leaving MM gets worse More players leave MM gets even worse Rinse/repeat
There is still fun to be had, but this looks like the last year for War Robots.

They just don't get it. Read some of the game reviews on Apple's AppStore...
****** Geart Long Term Game *** It's been 5 years * Overtly pay to win *** Great game, but money hungry * Money hungry!!! * Total rip-off wwith heaps of lag
A lot of older (5-6yr) reviews, not many new - and that should tell you everything that you need to know.
Pixonic spent so long trying to fleece the spenders that they weren't doing enough to encourage new players. The maxipad thing makes it possible for FTP/new players to more easily get some current meta things (if they get all the blue maxipads) while leaving others out of reach. It is a small course correction but not enough and far too late.
The first sign that the player numbers were in trouble is when they started merging Android & iOS, then mobile & PC. Now game modes are being reduced.

so since everything else has had a rebalance, or pix put their grubby paws on it and made it worse, It is fair to assume that the gameplay will be rebalanced in some time in the near future. I mentioned this in time drops, that I see a lot more of the same people over and over than I ever used to. Especially after these last two events/cycles.

I find it curious that reducing FFA and TDM from ‘play whenever you like’ to ‘play every other day’ means making them ‘more readily available’.
But hey, English as my native tongue, I’m probably just misunderstanding them.

I’ll believe all the doom and gloom when it finally happens. As long as they are still making changes to the game and adding new content; the game is still alive and kicking. Pissing players (like myself) off, but still kicking. I would say once the heavy monetizing is done and content slows, then it would be time to worry. But not yet.
Ps. I’ve stopped spending since November. Just cause they have jerked me around for long enough with nerfing stuff.

"more readily available" is probably code for "reducing wait times because there's not enough players to make the wait times short enough for players to be happy." more available = less waiting, or something like that.

There is so much speculation being passed off as fact in regards to the state of this game (people keep peddling My.Games as some new boogeyman, when it was just a subsidiary of Mail.ru), so I just go off what I can see. When matchmaking times are still rather low and videos on the official YouTube channel still regularly break 200K views, I see no signs of stopping at the moment.

Their logic, despite their statements, suggest a player volume issue. MM has been doing some really ridiculous stuff across leagues lately.
My Son plays for a bit after school, and runs into the same players with great consistency, far more than ever before. If he's crawled up leagues too quickly, I tank for him during the day to get back down to a reasonable league level for his hangar. Same deal, same players over and over. Many, many horribly imbalanced matches as well.
Theres a chicken/egg problem Pig' has created as well. Prior to the player exodus, MM focused very heavily on positioning players in matches based on social engineering qualifiers, the krill tier, provide targets to whale tier - piss krill off, they spend more money. Provide whales with reward (krill) for spending gobs of money. When there were tons of players available, that system worked quite well for them.
Now, the player base has dwindled and/or capped, the above qualifiers no longer have the same weight. I believe the more recent act of advancing low-level players VERY QUICKLY in leagues was a stop-gap measure, as the aforementioned qualifier algorithms were no longer working adequately. I suspect they are revising these things to (attempt to) maintain the revenue stream.
The BIG problem is their approach, which has always been flawed. They will focus all their efforts on tuning the social engineering qualifiers, herding people, by less than honest means, into scenarios that MAY cause them to spend money. That thinking has failed them, and continues to fail them incrementally, yet they have never learned the lesson. The actual solution is to make the game playable again, by balancing it, and making it somewhat fair. "Build it and they will come".
Sadly, as demonstrated by the last DenisFox video, it will never happen... "We will never stop doing this".
At some point they will stop, because there wont be anyone playing any more, and AI bots dont make purchases.
Idiots.

The game as it stands cannot be fixed to be "more playable." To make it more playable it needs to become two different versions: * Version A - only the bottom 1-2 (maybe 3 - purple too) tier robots and weapons. Pilots. No titans. No motherships. I'm on the firm belief that this would attract more players/people to "begin again." Limit it at Mk 1.12. No drones. * Version B - the full deal we have now.

The game can certainly be fixed, but they dont have the insight or perspective, or possibly the talent, to do so. They are entirely engulfed in one approach, social engineering, manipulation, for revenue generation.
In short, their constant tweaking and various outrageous BS to manipulate players into spending money, are exactly the things that have chased off players and make them not spend. Their "solution" is to double-down, manipulate EVEN MORE in attempt to get players spending, which simply furthers the already observed actual effect.... EVEN MORE players get chased off and dont spend.

My Son played a few matches tonight and gave up, opting to play Roblox instead. I asked him why he wasnt playing War Robots, and his response was "its boring, theres nothing fun anymore". He explained that the matches are all messed up and have been getting worse. Between yesterday and today in particular, he said either side completely steam-rolled the other. Looking at player level distribution, there were everything from Bronze to Champs in one match at the same time. In one case, Reds had spawned 5 Newtons, and Blues spent the rest of the match floating in the air, and they ran out of bots with several minutes left on the clock. With the exception of his Murometz, all they had were Kidds and Arthurs of no significant capability.
In another match, Blues slaughtered Reds with essentially zero resistance. His Harpy pretty much single-handedly wiped out Reds, including most of their Titans. In that match, he was Expert3, everyone else (both teams) were Privates to Golds.
In the final match there were 2 Champs on each team, both super meta maxed out everything. Of the rest of the players, my Son was the highest at Expert3, all others were Gold and lower on both teams. Both sets of Champs wiped out the other teams lower ranked players within a couple minutes, none were able to spawn their own Titans (not that it would have mattered). The remainder of that match was Champs 2v2.
I really just dont see how that can be fun for anyone. If you want to just shoot something, shooting a tree is about the same level of skill and excitement.
Maybe now I can uninstall War Robots and use the storage for something more useful, like Solitaire.

I have been thinking this for a while, which is why lately I have tried to make a bit more of an effort to move threads to Rants and Revelations to maintain some cleanliness here. It at times feels like people just use this site as a hub to vent about bad matches and nothing else (I know this is not true, but it does feel like it at times). I rarely bother with the Rants section anymore because the discussion has not changed in months, just endless screenshots of hackers, tankers, and bad matchmaking. People have the right to vent obviously, but the sheer amount of it going on is getting rather exhausting. I am glad I am not the only one put off by the endless ranting, and it makes me all the more sure that semi-retiring from the matchmaker as opposed to enduring the pain was the right move

Its just a sign of the times. Endless posting about BS is due to the endless amount of BS Pigsonic creates, enables, and perpetuates... its certainly not unwarranted. Its not like people are complaining about minor little dumb things, its all about the horrific state of the game. The venting is healthy in the regard that it provides real information (most of the time ) so that people can better make informed decisions on what they want to do with the game.
If people want to ignore that information, thats cool, it can be tedious, I get it. However, its better for that information to be there for the people who are trying to find it and gain perspective on what is clearly a very broken game.

I recently finished the 2024 Every Bot War, where I arm every bot I have and send them into combat. Any bot destroyed is disarmed and out of the war. It continues until I cannot field a hangar. And I track every detail of every match, because I’m mentally ill.
That being said, an astounding 75.3% of the matches, 70 out of 93, were ruined by tankers, seal clubbers or some combo of both. In past years it was about 39%. My win rate for the war was 48.4%, well within tolerances as we say. However, to have more than 3 out of 4 matches over before they began is just stupid. And they're being ruined by the most obvious accounts. And Pix does nothing. Nothing. So yeah, Rants is going to be filled with rants.
When I joined here in Nov 2016, there wasn’t a Rant section. We didn’t need one for the longest time. But Pix be pixxing and it is what it is.

My Son didnt want to play War Robots at all today, which I thought was a good decision. I decided to hop on a match with him watching to see if I got the same thing observed earlier. It was so pathetic it was almost poetic, and quite comedic.
A Mk2 ShrimpLouie, with the associated weapons named after Chinese weather conditions, pretty much started teleporting all over Blues with impunity. Poor guy in a Lancelot was the first to go, didnt even get a shot off. At that point, I knew the game was going to be a loss, so really didnt try going after Reds. Just monitored the ShrimpLouie behavior. I backed the Erebus up to an open ledge and just sat there waiting. A Scorpion wouldve fallen off if appearing behind (I've made that happen many times), but apparently Pigsonic cant have strategy affect the ShrimpLouie. It is apparently coded to check the space behind the target in some capacity, if its open air over a death trap, the ShrimpLouie will appear to your side instead. Blues stopped spawning completely only a few minutes into the match, and let it run out. It was really pointless to continue, and I applaud the remaining Blues for having enough brains to not feed such utter whale BS.
Checking hangars afterwards, same deal, everything from Privates to Champs on the Match. I asked my Son if I should keep War Robots, and he said "Nah."

Putonic (I prefer that to Pigsonic) enable them and make it possible for them to do what they. if I didn't know better I'd say that Putonic ensure that it happens by design.

Stop blaming the tankers and seal clubbers.
Not blaming any players behavior in that case at all, its merely what was observed. The results based on the scenario artificially (and needlessly) created by Pigsonic.
Quite the contrary, I blame Pigsonic entirely. That particular match was ruined for everyone in it, ruined at every level by Pigsonic's incessant need to wrangle people into situations not relative to their level/position.
I can clearly see why the player pool is dwindling at such a rapid pace.
