If no one has touched it in a few days, and you have nothing material to add to the thread, just don't post to it....
It is unfortunate we don't have create date on threads or it would be easy for me to avoid them.

True story.

Would it be evil to set a reminder to search for and resurrect this thread in 2 months?
Asking for a friend....

On many interest based message boards something useful can be added to a thread a month or even a year later without it being a "necropost." A daily or weekly "general discussion" thread is one way to satiate people using a topical message board as a sort of chat room / social site. That way there aren't a thousand new threads created every month, most of them duplicates of earlier topics.

I need to post a lot to go beyond rogatka forum ranking. Having said that here, I believe this in itself is a fine sample of necroposting?

Of course, then someone posts on a topic and gets admonished to "use the search function" True story. Yea that happens... but theres a special kind of necro-post thats obnoxious. The thread that comes back up to the top and the only thing that was added was a new post at the very end that says "Me Too"... We all stopped caring about the topic and let it die, but you bought it back up to the top to let us all know that you missed it the first time and just wanted to chime in with no real value add. If someone throws something brilliant onto something 3 months old and a thread gets a second life, more power to that person!

TBH, I think the recent ones were from forum noobs that don't know about the concept... The only one I didn't like was the one that reminded me of playing in the old MM... I even wrote some bad poetry about it on the thread lol

It's especially discouraging when you see a topic you might wish to speak on but then you click on it and realize it's from last year.
That said, calling the people out for doing it (assuming some of them know better) it might egg them on to necro post just to spite you, if there is no punishment for doing so... not that I would say it's a harmful or toxic thing per se.

I rather have a necropost than a dupe for some odd reason

Calling them out clearly hasn't helped, as I've just witnessed upon yet another incredibly old necro post, about Leo again, no less

Yes, ones I might've responded to personally but they're from centuries ago and not worth posting in.

Of course, then someone posts on a topic and gets admonished to "use the search function" True story. ^^^ .. this If no one is supposed to Post in older Threads on Topics that they want to contribute to, regardless of input then all Topics will be covered and you might as well make all the Thread Read-only. Just because you're not the interested in the Topic anymore doesn't mean others aren't. .. and putting a Timestamp on a Thread with a limited Posting time is just silly. Just skip the Thread if you don't want to read it. Making a Thread about others Posting in other Threads is a little redundant, imo. I'm really not trying to be mean but this seems a little hypocritical ..

I do not think there is anything wrong with posting on a thread that's been inactive for a few days. A few weeks or months, eh, not so much.

This is the only Forum I belong to that a member, not an administrator has said not to post information in an older thread. For new people coming in, a lot of good information is located in older threads that they could find useful right away. Right now I am tired of saying my favorite bot is a Boa or reading multiple threads about this is my fix for all the perceived ills of the games and the other multiple threads about the same subject.
If the mods decide that a thread has outlived it usefulness then lock it, add it to a reference library. I have seen this on the forums I belong to, granted not game forums, as this is the only one I reference for that endeavor.
But if a user thinks he has useful information that will help another player, by all means, post it. Bring it back to the forefront and not lost in the nether regions of the forum.

We'd prefer everyone uses some judgement, if the thread's been dead a while (like a month) and it isn't an extremely big issue, just don't post on it. If we had to decide which threads outlived their purpose, we'd have to keep track of every thread on this forum. With a team of 3 mods and 2 admins, it's just not something we can realistically do (especially since we invest spare time into this forum, we have work, school, and family to tend to as well)

ŞĆĦŇIŦŽ€Ł I completely understand your and all the others mods being volunteers and definitely the time constraints. Family first, everything else, last. At least that's my number one rule. I offered that only as a difference. Once you have how to program a new ABS unit for a certain model of BMW with their software. You are kinda done. The other forums I belong to, have the luxury of a paid staff. Much different environment. I apologize for letting my frustration show through. Apparently I need to take another break away from the forum.

Look you all have valid points about resurrecting old threads, I don't mind going in there and seeing something new and fresh and GOOD!
But if a thread as been dead for a while, you can not argue that ?poo-poo?posting in it and bringing it back to the top is a good thing.
