I’ve gone from running 3 Ares from my lineup to just 1. It’s still powerful if I’m careful. I mainly use it to hunt Ao Jun. You really need a high burst dmg bot and setup for that, and nothing does it better than Ares.
One thing though is that I wish Pix walk back the speed nerf. I think SB is already a direct counter to purple shield. The speed nerf on top of it is just a double nerf that seems over the top and makes it almost impossible to walk back into cover if someone starts shooting me with SB. Likely not a popular opinion, just my observation.
Guess what, I’m now running 2 Ao Jun, 1 Leech, 1 Phantom and 1 Ares. I guess 3 out of the 4 bot will get nerf sooner or later...

My thoughts.. Ares used to be a Bot people would march right out into the battle and dare others to take it down.. It took no tactical thinking..
Now, with Shield Breaker.. Ares pilots need to be a bit more tactical, they need to have cover they can come out from and go back to, they need to read the battlefield a bit, see if a Red has SB, see where they can best cause the most damage and survive.. Now it takes some thought, or your bot can be wasted rather quickly.. Those that play with no tactical thought .. HATE a balanced battlefield, they want to have a bot with no real counter... SB allows any Bot on the field to be able to lay an Areas to waste quickly, if the Ares is played recklessly..
--In the end... I have 5 Ares I won though various events.. I may use one of them every so often.. But in my current old school hanger, it has a Natty, 2 Golems, Griff and a Galahad - now all very capable at taking an Ares down.. My current meta hanger is a Leech, Tyr, Fenrir, Bulwark and a Spectre .. again, now all very capable of taking down a Ares.
-- It is why i don't spend any RM on bots.. I try to win them in events, I grind for the ability to win bots in events.. But I won't spend RM on Bots.. Because there is always a re-balance somewhere coming down the pike.. Also why I don't level bots up past lvl-7 ..
Ares got a nerf then a re-balance in the way of the SB.. Now it is just the OP Bot we used to know..
My take anyway - ..
Cheers..

I would agree, Ares is by no means bad right now, but when everything else is so insanely fast worrying about ares going 60 kph is unnecessary.

I don't run any of the more expense active modules (Phase Shift, Advanced Repair Unit, and Death Mark) mainly because I like hoarding my Power Cells. I also believe it encourages sloppy play, Phase Shift and Advanced Repair Unit in particular. Not judging those who do, we all make gameplay choices based on what those choices mean to us. Much like why I chose to run an Ares, while many others chose not to.
I agree but the way that Pix dishes out the free (for now) Power Cells (I'm up to 70k and still climbing) I find myself using them in strategic situations when I believe the game is in the balance and I have strong chance of landing a gold/silver payout or I just do not want to give up my bot to a meta opponent. I get it. There are certain times when it feels like you're playing your own little game within the game. The thing with me is, if I had Phase Shift equipped I would use it, and there are plenty of reasons to during a game.
When active modules were initially released, I ran Repair Unit on most of my bots, and I burned thru Power Cells like crazy because you usually need to heal many times during a game. After I started running low on Power Cells, I switched all of my active modules to Quantum Radar since it is very situational. Currently, I run Quantum Radar on 2 bots, Shield Breaker (also very situational) on 2 bots, and Repair Unit (only because it's a tank) on my Invader. This helped me build a fairly large reserve of Power Cells should Pix ever decide to cut the flow.

<snipped> or I just do not want to give up my bot to a meta opponent. Truth. Sometimes it's not about winning or losing the battle. Sometimes it's just about beating that players bot, right then...
At any rate, I'm up about 20K more powercells than what I started with, so a little conspicuous Phase Shift is allowed.
Everything in moderation. And that includes moderation.
I don't know how to quote two people in one post. Please see my reply above to Method Games.

I felt that way initially, but I'm ok with the speed nerf. Even with the speed nerf I think the Ares is a top 3 bot after the Phantom and Ao Jun. Personally, I have the Leech ranked at 4 because of its absolute reliance on Phase Shift to be effective. Take away Phase Shift from Leech pilots and it wouldn't be nearly the problem it is now.

I haven't spent a dime on this game yet, and I doubt I ever will with Pix's manipulative monetization policies. As a F2P, I chose to build and run an Ares because I knew even if it got nerfed (which we all knew was coming) it would at the very least still be effective.

You fail to understand what I meant, I know it won't be buffed, and I know they'll be nerfed, that's not my point. I'm saying that currently with how the meta is going the fast speed of the last generation will be the least of your concerns, so hypothetically if they did un nerf the speed it wouldn't really be a huge deal.

I use SB on my Aries. Makes the Aries on Aries battle a meltdown for the Red. Punishers and PunisherT’s Destroy! Agreed with the punishers. Ever since I won my free Ares I've had the same setup on it. Now it has speed shooter as well as sharpshooter, bot sits at 8, and weapons 9. As long as you have a backup plan against SB... It does well enough. I often just attack anyway regardless off my cooldown because the weapons are dangerous with those skills, and at 60km (versus 40km) you can actively pursue your target. And finally the range matches Retribution - it's still more deadly than a Leech for those 4 seconds - from 500M.

I actually did understand the point that you were trying to get at. The point I was trying to get at is that pre-nerf Ares was too OP and needed to be nerfed to bring it into somewhat of a balance with the bots that preceded it. Even now the Ares is still a top tier bot.
And those insanely fast bots, by which I assume you were referring to the Phantom, Ao Jun, and Leech will also receive a nerf at some point to bring them into somewhat of a balance to the bots that preceded them. In what manner they are nerfed, we'll just have to wait and see.
Maybe I didn't elaborate myself as well as I should have, but it was late and I was tired.

Oh I know Ares is still plenty OP, I still run one successfully in champions, And honestly I don't think the speed nerf makes it bad, although in the grand scheme of things Ares will always be OP, denerfing it wouldn't really change much except bring continuity with the rest of the meta, However I'm not necessarily advocating for this as ultimately it's irrelevant as the current meta will be nerfed and replaced, My Leech will be in the same position my Ares is in right now in a few months, still OP but not top dog anymore, that's just how this ?dookie? show goes. And no worries, I was posting a tad late myself.
