Ok....how do I do this build? Any wisdom appreciated See my post above ranking the Hover builds. If you like dropping bombs, Hover is one of the best platforms for it; second to Spectre due only to Spec's higher damage potential. Not a bad "training wheels" build while you learn to use Hover's mobility, or if you're using Hover as a placeholder in your hangar while you level up a different Bot. Also decent if your Hover is underlevelled for your League. Best way to use it: High Ground. Firing from an elevated position greatly increases the missile accuracy, and is great for shooting over cover and/or physical shields. Use your ability primarily to get to a good firing position; jumping to shoot is risky, as you could find yourself an instant target for 3 or more Reds, in which case you're likely dead before you hit the ground. Could be a good tactical build if you frequently run in Clan squads, but don't expect to average in the Top 3. If you're serious about Hover, I strongly recommend Scourges or Pulsars as your primary weapons.

So what is it about Spectres that makes them all think they can beat a Hover? I swat them like flies.

[Laughs in Dragoon Bulwark] Did u watch any of my vids above (still a terrible bot)? If so, do u think a Dragoon Bulwark is a legitimate threat to my Hover?

Anyone try Cryo/Rime? Or some type of Freezer hybrid build? Don’t have a cryo....but Hover is a bad choice for most CQC situations anyway.

Generally my opinion as well, but OTOH Hover is great at getting in close quickly, which is a huge asset of you use Freezers to play set-up for a hard-hitting ally.

My 3 fave builds are as follows: Taser (Scourge/Spark), Slingshot (Vortex/Aphid) and Pulse laser (Pulsar/Marquess). I’m a big fan of “slingshot “ hover one of my 1st bots to MKII. Awesome synergy between jump and weapons cool down. Huge learning curve to pilot. Biggest problem and benefit with slingshot hover is it’s map friendly.

So...what are the odds of seeing a Hover Legendary Pilot in the near future? I'm almost ready to just say "screw it" and use Adrian for more firepower.

Generally my opinion as well, but OTOH Hover is great at getting in close quickly, which is a huge asset of you use Freezers to play set-up for a hard-hitting ally. I beg to differ about a bad CQC choice. Just dont tank. Play it like a strider, but vertical dodging instead of horizontal! I been enjoying playing with a full shotgun kinetic build, pilot skills: shot grouping, and all the rest for movement speed. Close distance fast, skipping around between cover spots, and once within 300m ish, pop em a bunch in the back before they realize it, and as they turn to fight, start your fast walking spiral to pepper them to death. If they get too good of a lock on you, take that desperate vertical leap, while still peppering them, and either navigate towards cover, or hope you can finish em off. Honestly, works pretty good! Obviously this build relies on not being always locked down or frozen!

Ok, now I’m not here to talk crap about Hover, and have no interest in running one myself, however, I am curious about a specific tactic I have seen as the main specialty of Hover, and want to understand it’s application more so I can explain it to my son for his account. Every time I encounter Hover, there is only one exception where it doesn’t just die quickly. I’m sure you all have experiences that make you love the Hover but I just see it die all the time, so maybe I’m just not encountering more skilled Hover pilots with good tactics, not sure. Anyways, the tactical edge Hover seems to have is a close encounter within 100m, where they lift off and are able to bypass enemy lock on by crossing the vertical targeting threshold. They vanish not only from targeting but also LOS. So my question is, from the point of view of being the Hover pilot, are you able to keep target lock during this ascension even though the enemy loses it, or do you also lose the lock by crossing the targeting threshold?
Any tips on offensive or defensive tactics in this moment would be very appreciated.

no crap taken! honestly, most players, from Hover release until now, still have no idea how to play it effectively. They just float above the map like a blueberry ripe for picking and get targeted by the entire map.
as for point blank play, once a hover takes vertical flight, it will most likely lose targeting as well, but the catch is, YOU can keep your orientation and awareness the entire time, meaning you can turn, or manually target much faster than your target can. threshold crossing will always net target loss. Usually nets me a few shots before the enemy can reacquire me. Additionally, outside of 350m range, i rarely will go straight up to max height hover. You will easily be able to spot skilled Hover players by one tactic... dropping off ledges and using hover to maintain horizontal travel.
this tactic often keeps the Hover in relative cover while bypassing inclines, walls, ramps or other obstacles that would otherwise hinder movement. Additionally, because your hover speed matches your movement speed at the time of lift, if you stack enough movement% bonuses you fly quite fast! Once a player gets better at tactical movement (kiting), they will realize the full potential of Hover. Playing it as traditionally brain dead, drooling brawling who stands their taking hits while giving hits? Nope.

Any tips on offensive or defensive tactics in this moment would be very appreciated. This tactic is generally a desperation move by a Hover that got boxed into a bad CQC situation, but it does provide a few tactical advantages: 1) Breaks LOS. This provides a few seconds respite for Mechanic skill healing, Healing Module, weapon reload, PS cooldown, or for an ally to finish off your enemy. The Hover DOES enjoy a slight LOS threshold advantage, but it would take an extremely skilled/lucky player to ride that line where Hover has LOS but the target doesn't. 2) Breaks lock-on. Useful when fighting a Taser build at close range. 3) Dodge incoming Rockets 4) Can be converted to a bail-out monoeuver, terrain permitting 5) Brief advantage to re-acquire target (as explained in a previous post) Down side of course is that it leaves you exposed to other Reds who will happily help knock you out of the sky, so use cautiously...

Any tips on offensive or defensive tactics in this moment would be very appreciated. I've posted a lot of videos, just watch one. It's all there. I can track if the red is about 70-80 degrees in front-below, roughly, but right above (e.g. 90 degrees), the tracking is lost. But if there is another red nearby, I can bounce the Scourge/Spark.
It also depends on the era, to some extent.
When dash/quiz/Lance/Spectre were the thing, Scourge was new to the game, and I learned early on to either use the ability to get to a position, or to make the red lose tracking if I was too close. This (getting immediately above the red) became paramount when Ares entered the picture. When Jun was rolled out, I had to play more defensively, at a distance, and manage the Jun's flight cycles, get a lock on another target to avoid the delay when they leave stealth, if possible.
Now with Leech, the problem is simply being able to see if the Leech is leeching. Once I'm tracking the Leech ability cycle, it's ok, but I can't read keep track of all 6 reds at once, most of the time.
Hover isn't a good knife bot, nowhere close to Leech, Jun, Phantom etc. But it does some things better than any other bot.

Thx guys. I will have a look at the videos Earl There's a lot of tricks with the Hover. I have a lot of posts about the Hover, but I am no longer displaying detailed battle tactics. There was a major nerf to the Hover. There's alot more tricks in my bag, Bunny Hop, Tickle the Toes, etc. that the Hover can do. There's not that many skilled Hover pilots. I don't even run into many VOX, so there's thousand of players in Champ league iOS, 130 pages x 100 players per page. It would take lotta games to run into every player at least once, per month. I haven't seen Adrian or Predator for months now, but obviously they still produce content and play alot. I've never seen that japanese player with 5 Hovers, and the shotty build. That's my next goal, to learn how to play. I think the Hover is a great brawler, one of the best if played right. I think that's why those 「wee-wee」weeds nerfed the Hover, because it's too good a bot. Then there was that LL loser that changed his name to HoVERIsOP or smtg or other. Can't have skill in the game, can't get it for free gotta pay money if ya want a good bot. I've outplayed whales, but it takes too much to play careful. I scored 3M+ with my hanger, and beat whale with 5 Leeches/Ao Jun/Phantom and max MK2, crack smoking, etc. Hover is deffo a brawler, don't let that camper tell ya otherwise. My playstyle requires more skill to pull off the moves, to get me the edge, advantage. I don't have video, but trust me. I was 「dookie」 the first 6-9 mo using it. Still getting better each month, and with changes in meta. Of course, pixo n no one on here, they don't know how to use it. So think about it, how do they 「fluffernutter」ing nerf it, or how do the champs counter if they never see me until they see me. We know pixo don't play their game cause they have too many bugs, and they spy on this forum to learn about tricks and strategies.

As for nerfing the Hover because of reading your input here, I think that’s paranoia and pointless to speculate. However, recalling your post about it, I’ve been paying more attention and noticed that something is actually off now with targeting and it isn’t just one mech. Sorry off topic a little here, but the targeting issue isnt exclusive to Hover. What is going on for me and a bunch of people is it seems they have made auto-lock more like target-lock, where targeting won’t switch to the target you put the reticle on unless you disengage target-lock from an unintended target by swiveling the reticle past the horizontal targeting threshold. It sucks, because now I am finding I am often being forced to either quick swivel or target-lock and scroll targets to get to my damn target. This is happening with every mech in my hangars including the titans.

Y’all know my opinion on this subject:
The mighty Hover is the best bot there is (maybe rivaled by Strider). The only mainstay in my Hangar since it’s release about 3 years ago, it fragments hangars worth of green crack sucking, princess bot riding phildo addicts.
I am not much for bragging, don’t do Facebook, etc., but sometimes I regret never having recorded Hover gameplay to do this bot’s capabilities proper justice. Luckily the good old @earlcampbell has hours worth of awesomeness recorded.
My advice: Hover is best enjoyed with a side of scourge ?.
Once you’re getting your 3-4 kills per game in this setup, you could try out the more tricky deathbutton - should be fun again with those new fancy ice chuckers.
Rule your skies!!!!

Hey, @earlcampbell , hope you don't mind. I found this old Hover thread, and pulled some of your info into here... although, some of the advice is based on old meta and may not be very relevant anymore, some of it is still very relevant! I also quoted a post with your video from that thread::war-robots-forum.freeforums.net/thread/28367/hover-guide?page=2
