-CPU: Ryzen 5 2600: 117 bucks (comes with the ?dookie?ty stock cooler, but it's a start) -BOARD: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0: 60 bucks -RAM: 2*4 GB DDR4 "Ballistix Sport LT": 38 bucks -STORAGE: M.2 SSD CRUCIAL P1 3D NAND: 66 bucks -GPU: Radeon RX 570 from PowerColor 4GB: 134 bucks -PSU: 450 watt from Corsair: 49 bucks - CASE: NZXT H510: 69 bucks
All high quality components. All pricing from Amazon US. This machine will play a lot of games at high detail and > 60 frames per second at a 1920*1080 resolution and it's based on quality components. E-Sports games will run in the 100+ fps. If you need a Windows 10 key for your gaming rig, purchase it on the EU Amazons at ~5 to 10 bucks.
If you want to add a water cooling solution to your cpu, that'll be just 50 additional bucks for the Enermax Liqmax III I'm running. Silent cooling for any 65 watts cpu. Pretty much silent for any 105 watts cpu. You could also use a just 25 bucks ARCTIC Freezer 13. Massive metal tower air cooler. It's up to you.
This is the very best ~500 bucks build you can do right now. If you have any questions, let me know in a private message. I'd love to get some girls and guys to building great 500 bucks gaming rigs, enjoying the cheap games on Steam, GOG, Epic Launcher, Origin, uPlay. That's what this posting is about.
(Water cooling I mentioned above)

I've never used the stock cooler. I put the ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO ($40 on amazon) on my son's box. I also stuck 16GB of the G.SKILL Flare X Series in too. Spendy, but worth the upcharge. He can play a game, stream his gameplay, record the gameplay and be on discord simultaneously and not even come close to taxing his box.

I was aiming for a 500 bucks gaming rig which is a pretty tight budget;) The ARCTIC products are excellent, even the 25 bucks ARCTIC Freezer 13 is a very good and silent cpu cooler. Good thing about the 500 bucks build is, that you can always throw in some more components without having wasted money.

I'm currently putting together a build list to replace the two Dell 2950 space heaters I tossed a couple years ago (along withthe 42u rack in the office)
The Corsair Vengence 32GB PC3200 DIMMs (the B die ones) can be had 2 for $299 on amazon (I really want 128GB because I run VM's and containers) Not sure what I'm going to do for the M.2's, but I want 2x1TB 2280's minimum Looking at the Seagate enterprise 6TB drives for NFS storage (cuz their cheap) The CPU and mobo im conflicted on, I've been looking at the 3600's with some kind of 570 mobo, however the original TR's are available for a song, but the mobo costs are outrageous and that makes it close to a wash price wise.
I really wanted to go with a cube case. But so many of the cases and mobo's have more LED's in them than the average casino sign in Vegas. I want a cube case, no clear side panel, no bling.
Either way I have to keep the cost down. If I spec'ed out a box the way I wanted it I could blow 10K in a heartbeat.
I was hoping to pull it off this year, but it's Christmas shopping time for the sife and kids and they come first.

I don't play War Robots very often right now and as such, not visit the forum on a daily basis.
RAM's really cheap right now, 32 GB here in EU at about 120€ if one's happy with 3000 or 3200 Mhz frequency.
Depending on the IO throughput of your VMs, even a RAID made of regular 2,5" SATA SSDs might do a very good job but of course, M.2 PCIe SSD is better, but a lot of them have heat issues though.
3600 Ryzen is a bit too little for running a lot of VMs, if you ask me. 2700X will do a better job or you might directly aim for a 3900X, if money is not much of an issue. 12 cores/24 threads will last a for a very long time and you'll have super fast and responsive VMs, even if you're running multiple machines.
Anyway, if you make it and are able to get your parts, enjoy building:)

I can get by running the VM's on a 3600, though it's not my ideal setup. I am exclusively a linux user so I don't have a massive GUI overhead and don't need a lot in the resources department. Some of the VM's I want to containerize and group together. Allin good time. The LL cases are nice, but very spendy. I'm not in a huge hurry (yeah right) but I'm trying to get the most bag for the buck as we say over here.

The thing is, in the US, the 2700X can be obtained for as little as 130 bucks, while the 3600 is still at ~200 bucks. 8 cores/16 threads is much better for running VMs than 6 cores from the 3600. For gaming, the 3600 is the better cpu, as you'll get higher fps with it. Most bang for your bucks would be the 2700X, with your use case. But: Both cpus are great, for sure:)

That is true, however most of the VM's dont' run *all* the time. I can easiy run all I need on a 3600. My thing is I'mm tryin to future proof so I really want PCI 4, 128GB of memory, 32 thread, and 64TB of SSD storage all RAID'ed up. I just can't get that for under $500. So I have to settle. I just have to pick the stuff that suits my needs.
