As most of you have noticed, it's October and Halloween is around the corner. Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year and I like to watch Horror movies to commemorate. So, what is your favorite horror movie? Any recommendations? Anecdotes?
I grew up with Halloween, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St. I'm not impressed by movies like Saw and The Purge. I enjoyed the TV movie IT in the '80s and don't care for the remake. The original Japanese version of The Ring was so much better than the remake.
John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) is one of my favorite Sci-fi Thrillers.

I like watching zombie movies. I've been watching recently short horror films on YouTube produced by Alter. Its not your typical jump-off-your-seat or gory kind of flick. More like Twilight Zone imo.

Zombie movies are great. Maggie is a really good Zombie movie with Arnold Schwarzeneggar. Not your typical zombie flick.

The one movie that I don't dare to watch again is 'Lights out'.

The Descent is a smaller film thats really good and absolutely terrifying. Especially if you go in not knowing anything. I blindsided a pretty tough girlfriend and saw it in the theater and it took everything to keep her from leaving.
Although if you like scary stuff you may have already seen it.
A more recent release was Hereditary. That movie will mess with you for days after. Another good one to see without knowing what you're getting into. That movie was just amazing and should've gotten more attention than it did.

Netflix apparently have a couple out that received great reviews (depends on how much you trust reviewers in the modern day) Countdown as a movie or Wounds / Haunted - both TV shows. A little bit older, American Horror Story - depends on the season, but some are fantastic. One recent one to avoid, The Dead Don't Die. I got sucked into it by Bill Murray's name .. bad mistake, unless you like being bored to death.
As to favourite, Evil Dead trilogy. Possibly, Cabin in the Woods.

Bill Murray has a great cameo in Zombieland. That's the only reason I watched it twice.

"28 Days Later" was the worst for me. It's not really a zombie movie per-se, but it has some actual plausibility. Usually these kind of things don't phase me, but this one left a little bruise.

They did a special screening of the Descent by Alamo Draft House in Austin, TX where they took seating, a giant screen and huge sound system to some nearby caves and did deep down in a cavern. So pissed I didn't go do that. Did you see Hereditary? If you want scary and you haven't seen it, then it's an absolute must.

Original Poltergeist. A clown with long arms that pulls you under your own bed, how can that be topped?
