Leveled it on my Spectre, started to fall in love with it. Picked off an Ao Jun, killed an Ares who thought it was safe to hide...loved it. Now I see why ppl hate that build.
Those same people will go get their Phantom/Pursuer/Ao Jun and hunt you down, even knowing they might loose a bot the the process.
Hell, had a death clan chase me and ignore my team until I died.
But it's fun to slowly kill an Ares Train hiding behind a wall or pick off an annoying sniper who is camping.
What are your thoughts on it.

You can’t push or defend beacons so mostly ur just annoying which can be fun but your damage will probably overall drop as you find you spent a lot of games in that build while your team ended up botting out and now the games over before you even used half your hangar

Hydra will not help teams win the match, Low dps, Low Ag and Au reward after match. Don't know why people run it. I will not run it even if i won 4 MKII Hydra for free. Put it this way, i am rather having Hydra bots on the red, than on a blue
For example Weapons ............Burst DPS............Continuous DPS MKII Corona .......21240...................10620 MKII Hydra...........2858.....................1014

It is a support weapon that fills a niche market.
It is subpar in most cases and only really useful in very unique situations when the stars align.
That being said, I have been a part of battles where an annoying hydra player has managed to significantly slow down the assault of the enemy team. Certain conditions need to be met for that to happen though.

If you use it to annoy death squads and Ares trains, you have my blessing If you use it to hunt down my beloved Mercury, I consider you a diciple of Satan...

There's a time for everything.
When to drop it.
When to ditch it.

Back when random mode was forced upon us the Hydra Fujin was a pain in everyone's rear end in TDM mode. I almost ran one just because it was legacy and a pain for the reds. I've ran a Spydra Griffin before. Mostly as part of a hangar to play old meta builds I missed out on but I was genuinely curious about what it was like to run these type of weapons. It was OK but not my cup of tea. At the end of the day the Hydra and Spiral are balanced legacy weapons IMO. They trade DPS and DPM for the ability to hit from behind cover at 600m. Even then the missiles are far less accurate than Ao Guang ability missiles just to keep things in perspective. I don't like getting hit by them but I see that they are balanced and have respect for those that use them. When it is time for me to hide then it is time for me to hide.

Hydra can be a pita for the reds and a benefit to yours in certain circumstances, imo. Just make sure you keep moving and be ready to dump it t for something else if you get behind on beacons. Or if you feel like trolling, can't really beat hydra ( altho geckos are fun for that too. I actually ran a hydra/gecko gruff for a while way back when. Really fun). Anyways OP, have fun playing what you like.

Hail Hydra. If you killed an Ares then great work. Keep it up.
Nothing quite like the rage attack by someone whom takes great displeasure of your build killing theirs.
I ran a spydra Griffin, Hover and Falcon over my time. Hover I think is the better build. Perched up on buildings in Shenzhen. Good times.
I think I'm gonna try a Hydra Ao Guang. So how the timings work when I give it a go next month.

For somebody with a few hangars spectre with hydras is a fun mix. No, I wouldn't rely on it. Timed right it is effective at breeching center or picking off stragglers. There aren't a lot of anciles these days but you won't have a good time hitting a falcon or invader, and stealth is annoying. The 50% lockon skill is a must. Hydra will not help teams win the match, Low dps, Low Ag and Au reward after match. Don't know why people run it. I will not run it even i won 4 MKII Hydra for free. Put it this way, i am happier red has more people run Hydra than Blue. For example Weapons ............Burst DPS............Continuous DPS MKII Corona .......21240...................10620 MKII Hydra...........2858.....................1014 How do you win mk2 Hydra for free? YouTube? Anyway, the cycle damage of Hydra spectre at your level is 75k, but the math is adorable. Let's compare a 600m heat seeking missle to a shotgun that will never hit those numbers unless you're point blank. Smart.

Hydra are thrash, especially bot can self heal with pilot skill now. 1014 dps x 4MKII Hydra over 10mins = 2.4m damage (if 100% hit your target + shoot instantly every cd) Hydra is for someone too scare to brawl.

My first set of maxed weapons (this is before mk2) was a Spydra Griffin. It certainly packed a wallop at the time and I played it while leveling, for a couple months or something, but shortly after I got them all to 12 I started losing interest. The ‘fun’ of giving a big punch to something that can’t hit back was wearing off while the lower level action was standing out. That is, I was spending too much time watching walls with red icons and always running away, keeping everything at arms reach.
I rarely pull them out anymore but when I do it’s on a Hover and I go trolling, Yamantau is the best.
Also, I found it to be a very frustrating weapon because there’s no manual reload. So often I’d end up with 1 missile in each Hydra and no reds around. So lumber towards a red for 10 seconds, get lock, fire those 2 missiles then wait for reload. And now it must be especially frustrating with all the types of shields and stealth and phase shift.

F117 still uses a Spydra Griffin. See him regularly use it, and sometimes stay in the entire match in it.
Levelled up, anything can work OK to an extent.
Each to his own

It's got its uses, but I find it incredibly boring to play. I've never played Hydra Spectre though as I only have 2 Hydras at L11 and one at L7. But, I occasionally rock my Chimera Falcon and it's brutal on some stages like Moon or Power Plant. It can still get boring to play though but yeah, once in blue moon I'll run it.
The nice thing about Falcon is that the broken shield can drive people mad, and it can push for a beacon if it needs to.

So...what I'm hearing from many of you is that the Hydra needs a buff? Maybe back when it was called the swarm?

Hydras are 95% a psychological weapon. I ran a hydra doc back in diamond league many years ago. Within days of inserted it into my hangar, I noticed the average damage bottom out. When piloting one, it's deceiving because you think you're doing a lot wearing down the opposing team and there's a compulsion to keep using it because you're usually taking little damage in return. Meanwhile, you're barely contributing to the match other than pissing folks off and maybe causing some mistakes.
It's fun to run for a little while, but it's not something you should invest much resources into. If you were spotted running hydras, it's probably the one set-up that would get you ostracized from my clan lol.

I offer no assistance to team mates running Hydras when they get caught. I figure the other team is doing me a favor by removing them and forcing them to use a bot they can actually contribute with.

I ran duo with a new clan mate the other day. He is a nice guy. But I had to say something after the match. It took us nine minutes to win TDM. He chucked mk2 hydras off his spectre the entire game and I kept cleaning up as the reds came in to attack him. Final tally: hydras 429k damage, me 2.34MM. Some random noob in griffins and a Leo did more damage then him by far.
They are garbage.

Hell, had a death clan chase me and ignore my team until I died. this is a complete fabrication. .. Its one of those things that dont belong. death squad ignore your team until you died? im sorry for calling this out if the squad you faced was actually called 'death clan'. death squads dont "chase" anyone. They simply overrun and annihilate everything on their way to your home spawn point. Usually takes the same amount of time it takes for your hydra spectre to fire two or three volleys. A spectre hydra is absolutely the LAST bot on the field that a death clan will see as a threat. They know they can take their time to kill you since seeing hydras flying means that team is already 1 bot down to fight. when ya wanna tell of something here, remember that some of us actually play enough to know when someone is throwing a little extra sauce in the mix. Just tell it straight, ok? Hydras are annoying, yes. they have a place in battles, sure. but theres more than a few reasons why they arent seen as often as other builds. most players really like to win * i just caught a vision of boy scouts trying to hold back seal team six from taking a target
