Hey folks, I posted this in an earlier thread, but thought that this might warrant its own thread. I see a lot of people feeling disenchanted with the Fenrir. I get that. But Fenrir is a beast. Yes, it is classified as a TANK. But you cannot play it like a Falcon, run out into the open and expect to simply soak up damage. And you cannot pounce into a crowd of enemies like an invader and smash the heal button. But that doesn't mean it is not very powerful or meta worthy. It simply has a high learning curve. So if you can't run into the open or pounce into a crowd of enemies, then how do you use Fenrir? MY FENRIR TIPS -First, you must play Fenrir far differently than a Falcon or Invader. So get your mindset right to begin with. -Fenrir is very effective as a FLANKING bot...where you're chipping away at enemies from midrange. And then when they finally notice you, instead of running after them to engage, you should try to lure them into a 1v1 engagement with you. -If enemy decides to stay at midrange and engage you, you will likely win (if you have cover). Ideally, you draw them into brawling range...and you can beat almost every bot 1v1 at brawling range. You will beat an invader 1v1. You have a slight disadvantage against a Falcon 1v1, but you can wait for reliable teammates to back you up. -You can beat all other bots 1v1. Remember, your goal is to isolate opponents 1v1...not to engage with multiple enemies at the same time -You should try to avoid Au Juns, or wait for them to nearly finish flying before you engage -The primary purpose of the aegis shield is for SPEED. When fighting, the vast majority of time, you should be in non aegis mode and CLOSE TO COVER. This mode is where you are the hardest to kill. -The only time you should really rely on the aegis shield to stop damage is when it's slow splash (think tulumbas or a bot that has run out of orkans) or low damage (like lasers). And your goal is really to get behind cover. Otherwise, aegis mode is for SPEED, never to absorb damage. -Pilot skills: ROAD HOG (Fenrir is pretty fast with this skill), then damage resistance skills, then whatever you want -Active module: healing. Always. A lot of other players are much better than me at using their Fenrirs, and I'm still learning to get the most out of mine. But I was like a LOT of people on this forum. When I first start using it, I was getting frustrated. After a few days I started to figure it out. ANY OTHER FENRIR TIPS are welcome. PS - For those of you saying that Fenrir sucks compared to Falcon, the reality is that while they're both tanks, they play slightly different roles on the battlefield. I consider Fenrir to be the far more versatile tank and a bit more useful overall. Disclosure - I run all 3 tanks: Fenrir, Invader and Falcon in my hangar.

Thanks for posting your tips. Very useful.
I have a couple of questions:
(1) Does the Fenrir have a role for someone like me who is allergic to using power cells, and especially allergic to using healing or advance healing? Or are healing modules so essential to the bot's performance that I shouldn't bother unless I'm willing to smoke Phildos?
(2) What weapons would you recommend for your mid-range-into-brawling approach? I suppose something like Calamity/Scourge would be ideal? And maybe Punisher T / Avenger being the poor man's choice?

I tried corona-glory, didn't like the midrange. I tried scourge-ember, and it lacked punch. More importantly, the lockdown time at close range was killing me in brawls. I think punisher T/Avenger would not only work, but would also be a lot of fun! And a lockdown build might actually be ok. Reloading is obviously gonna hurt, though.

I have tried both and shotgun. Best longetivity was calamity scourge. "longetivity" Damage was 「dookie」. Best damage build for me was shotgun, but died everytime before I could get in thunder range. I will give my fenrir one more chance using OPs tips. Else I sell it, for silver to upgrade more reliable mechs.

Knockdown build is actually good, but then again you will never be top 3 wasting half the match in this bot just because you can survive in it.

Excellent post. I played Fenrir a lot but ended up selling it, not because it wasnt effective, I just realized it was not the play style I really wanted. All your tips are excellent, though I dont agree about the need for active module use. If you play it as a flanker and to stick close to allies, theres less need. I ran it a lot with Ember Igniter and Lockdown Ammo, then when I ran other weapons stopped activating the active mods altogether and it still did fine.

Very good tips from OP.
Mechanic skill could be used instead of the healing module I suppose. Weapon-wise, I am quite happy with storm/glory. For a bit more range I was thinking of trying pulsar/avenger for my 2nd fenrir. My fenrir always gets several kills, and certainly is quite a beast, even at MK1 lvl 11.
Just added Fortifier instead of a maxed armor kit, though not sure about this one yet. An Anti control mod is def. recommendable (and have Last Stand mod.).

I may experiment with flamer builds, too.

I also use it as a medium range bot that can brawl if needed. My setup is Calamity/scourge/pulsar. Only lvl 9 bot and weapon, but works well in Champions League. I have tried some other weapon setups, but this has been the best for me.
All my other bots have close range weapons, so even if it isnt a dedicated medium build it works well at medium range. I only play BR. Very often medium range isnt needed, so it is good to have the option to brawl.
I have the special pilot. Her special skill is fine, but not something i would use gold to get. I got her for free in event.
The new module that increases shield and regeneration of shield is something i will try to get hold of sooner or later. Hope it stacks with special skill of the pilot. Shield is only for moving or getting out of trouble (Hide from Ares retribution).

I guess what you are saying could work, but I don't really see the point of running a Fenrir if I can't use it to spearhead attacks. Doing the whole sneaky/flanky thing is just done much better by other bots.

careyfanYou shouldn't push people away from the ageias like that, the thing is one of the most important parts of him. First you need the legendary pilot for regenerating it faster and the normal pilot skill to give it more health, then you need to know when to use it. The worst time is when you are facing a heavy damage brawler who can take it out before you can switch modes back. Also a bit of knowledge of when exactly to start and stop using it helps, preferably use it just when it is fully recharged (for full effect) and never before, then shut it off when you know it will run out within the next 2-3 seconds, don't wait till the last second or they will deal twice the damage they should in that little gap between. Otherwise what you stated is entirely accurate, would you say that corona calamity would work fairly well, my clanmates says it will and I believe it will but I was hoping you could thorugh in your opinion. Also everyone remember to boost health, healing and speed (also the shield) before you even think about damage, it helps a whole lot.

Spear heading attacks isn't a thing you can do anymore without an ares because people are getting way too timid and they won't come out of their shell just because you are being their meat shield. Also what he said wasn't exactly him saying that you should be 'sneaky' or 'only flank' it was simply that to many players try to rush groups of 2-4 people with fenrir and the robot can't handle that, you should stick to the side and become a bot chipper, letting one person come to you at a time and shred that person out of the game before moving onto the next person.

fenny sounds like my bulwark. not exactly a Tank, but one strong mutha「fluffernutter」a.
i'd like to trade in my old bot and lease a new one, but it won't happen.
my tips... mmm, don't die with it and you should be fine. Bully has a good aegis, so always recharge it. even when my main health is almost dead, i hide in a corner. wait one minute, then i go out again good as new. there's not much to using the aegis shield. you can play it pretty dumb, and it'll still be pretty good. Probably my best bot, but that aint saying much rn.

The point of a tanky bot is to get people to shoot at you so they don't shoot at other, more vulnerable people. If you have to pussyfoot so much for the Fenrir to work, you might as well run something else that will be more useful overall to the team. That's all I'm saying.

Don't have one...but got a fair amount of components whenever it comes out in WS. I think the Fortifier module may be a game changer for the shield, armor, and regen. Just got one for my Bully and it really helps. Not OP at L1 right now on my L11 Bully but both shields noticeably last longer and regens faster. I'm it should do the same for Fenrir.

What you do is you pull someone off the tail end of the pack and kill them and then do it again and again, possibly knocking someone completely out of the game if they keep coming after you. That is how you should be running meecury AND fenrir, why does mercury work so well in the meta if he is by your defenition a 「meow」? Simply put, he hunts for people who are alone and so there isn't a chance for the enemy team to flank AND you keep one or more enemies out of the main brawl the whole match. You also don't die really quick in either in a 1v1 so you get lots of kills for the one kill you are worth. It is hard to explain but they do help a lot, as a mercury runner myself I know how much a 1v1 hunter can do should the enemy team give him a chance and it is quite a bit, let me tell you. If you want an idea I got a 14kill round (at least), with mercury. That was because I was stuck in constant 1v1s and they just wouldn't stop coming after me.

I will build one now when it's in the WS and try it, but so far I struggle to think for a role for it. I will probably need to max it straight away for it to be of any use...

I will probably need to max it straight away for it to be of any use... thats kinda what I mean, fenrir is quite the oddity because he has a fairly large health pool and very high fire power, not to mention the resistance and the shield. You can kill an ao jun if it is played badly or low level (all the high level ones are used by P2P who didn't learn any decent skills and the rest are lower level usually) so they fall to a well piloted fenrir. Although what I am mostly saying is that he can handle MOST bots in a 1v1, not every bot in the game. Bots that can beat it are ares, ao jun, and maybe the occasional mercury, hades, or nemesis, it all depends on the skill of both players the loadout of the bots and weapons. You gotta realise that you are only one bot so if you kill 2 then you just got double your worth, he is a very balanced bot who won't steamroll people, I think pixonic's constant screwups with bot balancing has made the playerbase blind to how a game like this should be.

I face them myself, I have been on mobile for the last month so I can't change what league I am in, that is why my league says masters. I currently have been dropping hard so I am yet again in masters (not for long with how well I play) but the last few weeks I have been in champs, I know what it is like. Oh and I have a clanmate in very high champs and I squad with him every once in a while so I have played in top tier champs a couple of times.

Dude is a whale. MK2 everything. Maxed pilots. You name it. Hell he even has a maxed Phantom and that other new bot right now. Anyway, he has a Fen. I have killed that Fen several times and never lost a bot. It isn't because he is a bad pilot. It is because the Fen is not that strong of a bot. Edit: I also have a clan mate who runs 3. I have faced him several times. Have killed off his several times. I have never lost a bot. If the retribution/dragon's breath bug gets fixed, it will be a much better bot. Until then, the Fen goes down way too easy to the bulk of the bots found in mid Champions League and higher. Its slow speed also makes it fairly easy to deal with. Just corner shoot it to death. They will never catch you.

You can kill an ao jun if it is played badly or low level ( all the high level ones are used by P2P who didn't learn any decent skills and the rest are lower level usually) so they fall to a well piloted fenrir. Come on man, was this necessary? yeah it kinda was, most players who pay money on the game are easy to beat, I have killed countless myself. Can't stand it when people pay money on a game because they need to compensate for terrible skills. There are a few though... You know that I said that all the rest are low level USUALLY and P2P is pay to play, so if you run him (high level) and didn't spend on him then you are not of the type who didn't learn any skills. Tell me, do you enjoy running him more than most of your bots?

I face them myself, I have been on mobile for the last month so I can't change what league I am in, that is why my league says masters. I currently have been dropping hard so I am yet again in masters (not for long with how well I play) but the last few weeks I have been in champs, I know what it is like. Oh and I have a clanmate in very high champs and I squad with him every once in a while so I have played in top tier champs a couple of times. Put it this way. I have played against Ancient Fart. I see what you are getting at, he is like you said, fragile to the meta BUT that is only because the meta is all LITERAL god bots. The game has dulled most players to what a balanced bot looks like, fenrir is a perfectly balanced bot but the meta is on a stupid level of strong so when everyone compares him to them he looks like a underpowered bot. The balance of this game is something that most developers would fall over dead just by looking at it which means that there isn't a place in meta or highly competative games for any well balanced gear so in this case fenrir isn't good, however pix should model the rest of the bots after him simply because of how well they did on him
