Zero Jee... nice choice... I have seen Vic live when I was a teenager... him and a drummer. Was a great, intimate show in a bar. Have seen him with Bella Fleck too... awesome stuff!

I was there, about halfway between the camera guy and Bela. Vic played bass that night, amazing show.

@earlcampbell we have some sort of jedi mind link going on dude. Suicidal was the soundtrack of my youth. I grew up in So Cal, fresh on the OC punk scene. Even before that . . . I remember as early as 3rd grade, a friend's older brother got us into Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion, etc. . . The later: Black Flag, The Damned, Buzzcocks, Minor Threat, Bad Religion, and we can't forget the grandaddies of punk - The Ramones! And as a basist I am sure you know how influential Joy Division was.

I'm a bass player too, shown earlier in the thread.
Cool man!

I think I just found today's happy place...
Awesome! Can't believe I didn't know this existed... I feel like a void has been filled that I didn't know was there.
Funk is where my drumming seeds were planted... Even though I listened to metal and other harder, more technical, styles when I first started playing, and tried to emulate and learn from those scenes' popular drummers at the time... I naturally fell into the rhythms and grooves of funkdom when just playing by feel.
Plus... Prince is a genius.
Great post... Cheers!

Joy Division became New Order (after the death of the singer Ian Curtis) ...Peter Hook being the Bassist ... Love his style

Needless to say, Prince had good influences, was endlessly creative and was an avid fan of music himself. This track (More Peas) is as close to a copy-paste of the Prince sound as you'll get (Prince, like everyone copies the previous greats, in this case it is James Brown and Fred Wesley). Enjoy!
My long-time good friend and drummer Terry (in some of the vids I posted of my band) played with a dude that went on to play with (recording) Prince on some sessions. Terry is a virtuoso on the kit, but plays for the song, not the ego...best kind of musician.
Glad you like the post, this early Prince session is a real gem...glad you agree!
And here is another (another hero):
The three people in the lobby got a hell of a treat. Danny could be the heaviest guit-fiddle monster to ever touch a fretboard...endless creativity...Charlie Parker type.
Yeah man, Ima lovin all the great posts others have made on this thread!

A bit of New Order ...
For me this one is the watershed on sound between Joy Division & New Order

These cats used to play the same bars we played in Dallas (they were from Houston), and we'd make it a point to see them and smoke, drink and be merry.
Jesse is an amazing "unknown" talent!!!!
