There are a lot of complaints and a fair amount of confusion about the quarantine on the forums. This thread is to try to explain why we have it and what it's all about. Q: I see this quarantine thing. Am I in trouble? A: Not at all. You have a new account and simply don't have enough posts, yet. Once you hit the minimum threshold, it'll go away never to return. Q: So, I can just spam post to get to the minimum? A: Nope. Spamming is against the Forum Code of Conduct. You'll find yourself in trouble with the Mods and may get disciplinary action enforced on you. Q: That's garbage. A: That's not a question. Q: It's totally not fair. A: That's not a question, either. Q: Why bother with a quarantine at all? A: Back in December 2017 (man, it feels like a lot longer ago than that), we had an individual with a grudge or few people on the planet that decided that his best course of action to address his grievances was to post disturbing images showing a number of extremely graphic deaths over a number of days. We had the Admins, Mods, and VSTF work to keep the website clean, but despite their best efforts a fair amount of that was still seen by the masses until it could be addressed. Banning the individual only did so much as they would create new accounts with which to spam his filth all over the place. The quarantine was created to address that problem. Q: Why do I need to suffer because someone else is a jerk? A: Just put your head down, contribute on here, and soon enough it'll be gone. Q: What do I do if I post and the quarantine doesn't go away? A: It shouldn't take more than a few hours for someone from the VSTF or a Mod to see your post, address it, and remove it from quarantine provided you haven't done something offensive. If a lengthy period of time (~8+ hrs) goes by and it's still quarantined, send a PM to one of the Mods asking about it. We'll investigate and get back to you as soon as we can.

Or that posting in the off topic section doesn’t count. Which ever you prefer.

Just a suggestion, but if the problem was graphic images, then why not just quarantine images? The chat filter is pretty aggressive as it stands.

That's a good suggestion.. such as no pictures till you hit 25-50 posts. I honestly think 50 posts is a bit much no matter the reason.. spammers are spotted right off the git go.. and most chronic bad elements show them selves within about 25 I think.

Just a suggestion, but if the problem was graphic images, then why not just quarantine images? The chat filter is pretty aggressive as it stands. Good question. First, I'm not sure that it is possible to quarantine posts that have images, but let's assume it is. Many posters use images routinely (yours truly not excluded) and images in general are not the problem. The problem was a specific poster that was using multiple IDs to post these graphic images. The simplest method is to limit access to new posters for a period of activity so we can capture problems. This leaves trusted posters free to post to their heart's content.
"Well then, why not jus quarantine posts from new users with images" you say? Ahh, because this begins to make the filtering/quarantining process more onerous and the Mod team is a busy group of real folk and we like simple. It makes things...well...simpler!
The quarantine period is a little frustrating for new members undoubtedly, but it is a far better situation for the entire forum than seeing obscene and vile images by every member. We want to protect you guys.

I have a feeling the imagines in question was quite a bit more graphic than my avatar. But if the administration want's me to change it I'll be happy to censor it for those with sensitivities.

I have a question.. Is it possible turn the quarantine off as a option? I find it annoying and I don't have virgin eyes. Yes, it is an option to turn it off, but only Mods have that option. And as to the state of your eyes, there's no need to brag about how "experienced" your eyes are. I'm very proud about the virginity of mine own eyes. They are waiting until marriage, thank you very much!

Deadeye's picture is nothing to what this person was posting. It was truly sick, disgusting, and perverted. Trust me... the filter was the best thing possible as it kept the forum a place that is populated because even adults with very strong disposition found the material truly offensive. As a father, who has children who play war robots and sometimes frequent this forum, it would have been impossible to ever have young folks on this with that type of filth being posted in random topics.

I think they was referring to my picture of a vulture eating some sort of animal.. not deadeye's But er ya, I almost have an idea of what was posted based on bit's and pieces I've put together from posts.
Sounded pretty bad at best, and more likely down right illegal.

On second thought..the quarantine seems like a lot of work for you guys. Is there any other benefit from the quarantine? Maybe you should just scrap it completely? I mean that one sick mothertrucker is gone, and people that sick don’t hate the forum everyday?
Maybe you can deactivate it, and if it is needed ever again you just reactivate it?
Another thing is that the quarantine doesn’t work on the phone, and I am online here almost exclusively with my phone.

As a new member who gets his posts quarantined every time I honestly don't see it as a big deal at all... so what if I have to wait a few hours for someone else to see my post? Furthermore, I am glad that we have such great mods and admins here who take steps to prevent such garbage from being seen from the general public. Thank you guys for your service!

Thanks for putting this up, I presume you're keeping the minimum number of posts secret for reasons. I'll keep plugging away, though I'm more of a reader.

Stances on whether to let that info out vary, but I'd rather not make it widely-known so any would-be spammers don't have a given threshold to "freedom" to target for unhindered access. Just suffice to say that it's not an unattainable target given a reasonable amount of discourse.

No cheese offered. I just wanted to take a moment and say from the obvious order and flow of what I've seen here so far shows responsibility, respect and educated staff. This quarantine option is totally acceptable to the community as far as I'm concerned.

But as someone else on this thread said, an option to see quarantine would be great as hopefully the majority of the forumites here are mature adults and not raging squeakers .

I have a question.. Is it possible turn the quarantine off as a option? I find it annoying and I don't have virgin eyes. I agree. The majority of forumites here are adults. This option would be great. It should have the option of "Turn off for this post, or turn off for all quarantined post? As insurance to the mods it should say something along these lines. "This quarantine exists to protect your eyes, sanity, and as an iron curtain against legal action. The content in this quarantined post should be viewed at YOUR OWN RISK, as this post may violate the Terms of Service prohibiting every egregious post in this open community of Free Boards, War Robots, numbered, including but not limited to: 1. Nudity, Sexual Content, Mature Themes, and "Unwilling Services." 2. All forms of content considered "Egregious" by THE VIEWER OF THIS CONTENT's OWN EYES, including but not limited to Gore, Murder, Acts of Extreme Violence. 3. Drug Use, Tobacco Use, Use of Prescription Medication. 4. Some sort of sick joke, or a category of, in the perspective of the Post Owner, humor that the viewer may find "Egregious" defined as "Shockingly Bad, or Offensive" 5. Racism, Sexism, 6. Very Offensive Language. This forum has a "profanity filter" which protects the viewers sensitive eyes from all forms of profanity, serving the purpose of making this forum a "safe place," as we value our viewers and contributors. However, this correction system is not fool proof, and it is easy for a person to breach the Profanity Filter, leaving all manner of cuss words for your eyes to view. No one does this but a "Troll," who thinks being annoying on the internet is fun. 7. Anything that you might not want to see will be filtered by a Mod/Admin, who will take the time out of their day to ensure this post is safe for every person, of any ethnicity, gender, race, and orientation. 8. This option allows you view "Quarantined Posts," which have not been filtered by either the Moderators or Administrators, and should be done if you are completely unafraid of mental breakdowns, mental harm, physical harm, or shattered feelings from content some person you wouldn't hang out with in person posted on this stupid internet. Should you view this quarantined post, or any quarantined post after this one instance of viewing a quarantined post has ended, and for every quarantined post you ever willingly decide that you would like to view, now and in both the forseeable and unforeseeable futures, you will knowingly release the Moderators, Admins, Free Forums, and Poster from ALL LEGAL ACTION, SHOULD YOU VIEW THIS OR ANY POST UNDER QUARANTINE YOU WILL TAKE NO LEGAL ACTION, AS YOU CHOSE TO VIEW THE QUARANTINED POST OVER YOUR OWN WELL BEING. USE CAUTION, AND VIEW THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. 9. Should a Minor, a Child, or anyone under the age of eighteen, view this quarantined post and a Parent would like to press legal charges, your child either lied about her/his age, or did not read this (whatever the Admins decide to name this, maybe liability release form?) like she/he should have. She/he is used instead of the social normality He/She to avoid offending any Progressive forum members. We are good people, and if you are a good person, please know we try our absolute best in what what do, in our own free time, because we love managing this forum, which includes creating a hospitable, safe, progressive, and intelligent environment for everyone to put together their collective knowledge in pursuit of everybody getting better at this game we all love to play, War Robots. 10. "Trolls," defined as everybody who takes delight in making people angry, sad, shocked, depressed, or annoyed on this internet we all share, are everywhere on this internet we all share. This quarantined post you might or might not view, may very well content along these lines, and these posts generally consist of something someone wishes not to allow in their own mind. VIEW AT YOUR OWN DISCRECTION.

Why not just have quarantined posts stay the way they are now to other users under quarantine, but have a "Show me anyway" option (like other sites use to hide NSFW content) for users who are past the post threshold? Because sometimes i find threads of new players who genuinely want an opinion, and i can't figure out what they're talking about without switching to mobile view, and i'm usually on desktop mode, which locks me out of that override entirely.
