The quick answer is yes, but probably not the first thing you should buy.
Generally 5th slot and Orkans would be higher up the Au wish list.
Stick up some info on your hanager and some folk can give you some decent advice.

I wouldn't unless you have at least your 4th slot and 2 Orkans, those should be your first Au purchases. My best advice for you is to focus on weapons more than bots, and you can do this by using Griffins which are highly effective even in upper leagues. Griffin with Orkans/Pinatas (300 range) Griffin with Taran/Magnum (350 range) Griffin with Tulumbas/Pins (500 range) Griffin with Punisher T/Punisher (500 range) Griffin with Molot T/ Molot (800 range) Those are the 5 most popular Griffin builds and all are effective builds. The most effective builds are probably the the first three.

I'm not sure if you were listing out how your bots were built, but typically you want to keep the weapon range on your bots around the same. I actually used a Punisher T/Spiral Griffin as I was starting out as well but I found all punishers to be more devastating. Try the Golum with Thunder/Storm/Gust (if you have the Gust, they're pretty easy to get as far as component weapons). If you don't have gust yet, maybe use a punisher until you get one.

While Griffins are good, they wouldn't be my first choice.
Try out some of the mediums/lights to try and narrow down what your best options are. Heavies are endgame bots and by then you should have picked out the ones you want and their roles.
For weapons I would say to have a mix of rockets and plasma in your hanger. What those weapons are is up to you (usually comes down to orkans/tulus and tarans). Kinetic weapons are also a good choice as they can break down anciles and physical shields with ease, which are common today.
Also welcome to the forums m8

Griffins are also considered heavy bots. They are also one of the few bots that actually stand a chance vs Dashes.
