Only the deliberately ignorant think that correct grammar doesn't count for sh*t. It's even worse when they can't pronunciate correctly either. As a business owner I always make sure any potential employees can read, write and pronunciate. If not they are not worth hiring. I won't even hire anyone with a G.E.D.. All it tells me is that that person was too damn lazy or ignorant to just go ahead and get their diploma to begin with. I want go getters not potential quitters. There are many peeps who canâ??t speak a particular language properly ..a simple example would be Mahatma Gandhi ..a well known person over almost whole world who was a lawyer before he took part in any revolution, at court because he couldnâ??t speak properly he used to ask some other guy to tell the ( speak in his stead) court by jotting it down on a paper. So as he couldn’t speak he didn’t had talent ? Or skills ? He gaved freedom to a whole big nation like India , and helped many others like Africans etc . A person who could speak fluently can do that ? Not really coz it does require them to have fluency in language to have better conversation but there is far more to it then just being good in a language As they say books shouldnâ??t be judged from their covers , although I wonâ??t say you were wrong rejecting those peeps you did coz of their bad English or some other language, however to decide wether a person has talent and skills for some XYZ business by checking wether he speaks the language properly or not is complete BS unless you are working on call centre I am not saying that Language is not important, ofc it is ! How you look ,your personality and fluency in the language is the first thing any one taking a interview notices and you might get the job coz of it even if you donâ??t have much talent or skills but to reject other person who donâ??t have above mentioned qualities but have talent ,skills etc is complete bull ?poo-poo? coz a good business donâ??t just require fluency in language for good conversation there are many other things that matters too

Okay everyone, now waaaaiiiit just a minute and consider something.. Is peeps even a word? LOLOLOL EDIT: Speaking of LOL, my daughter (10) asked me today if using the word "meh" is rude. And I said, well, it is a dismissive term, but who would use it in spoken word? It would be like saying LOL as a spoken word.

In fact it has been in the english dictionary for quite some time. But like whatever, it's..meh.

This thread makes me sad. Nitpicking of some of the finer points of the use of the English language (particularly vs non-native speakers) is obnoxious. That there are people insisting their misuse of the language needs to be accepted by the masses is beyond ignorant. Both suck, but the latter only serves to dumb down society. If you're in the latter camp, I hope you enjoyed Idiocracy because you may not realize it, but you might as well go get yourself some Brawndo. Your second sentence is somewhat unclear, the lack of a transition between the two sentences can end up confusing some people. I would have written it more like this: However, despite the previous point, that there are people insisting that their misuse of the language needs to be accepted by the masses is beyond ignorant. You’re right. I went back and clarified my point. I tried to leave all the content while differentiating that there were two separate, opposing groups. Personally, I can and do overlook mistakes. There are non-native speakers around who use their linguistic rules where they don’t apply in English. I get it. Shoot, there are even differences between English English and traditional American English rules. I don’t know if there are further differences with Aussie and/or South African English. Rampant mistakes with complete lack of punctuation, chronic butchering of spelling, text-speak, and/or general laziness when it becomes obvious that the individual is a native speaker and is indifferent to even trying to do things correctly just screams militant ignorance to me. I have problems with that. Yes, languages change over time, but changing things simply because you are too lazy to learn the difference between you’re and your, it’s and its, or even how to spell things correctly is offensive, wastes the time of people dealing with you, and contributes to the dumbing down of society.

In Clash of Clans, I saw so many names with misspellings on global chat (if you think the arguments in this thread are bad, try that cesspool), I decided to start a clan for Mispelled [sic] Names. I recruited a few people into it.
In CoC you get just one name change (originally none), so a lot of careless people were stuck to wear their shame.

However. Would you be inclined to put much stock in what was said by a lecturer who couldn't speak fluently? Probably not. He might be truly brilliant, but unless he spoke clearly and concisely, using proper pronunciation and grammar, why would you want to listen to him? If he won't even go to the effort of speaking clearly, of putting his/her best effort into making himself easily understood, he's not worth listening to! You can, as you have done and will no doubt continue to do, overlook/ignore the rules of English. That is your prerogative. However your posts will carry FAR less weight than they otherwise would. It's very easy to tell when someone is making errors due to English being a second or third language versus when they're simply too lazy to care. I used to spend considerable time on some fishing forums with members from around the world. And guess what? Most of them used very, very good English, in spite of the fact that it wasn't their native language. Sure, a lot of them used some, well, "interesting" wording at times. However their punctuation was generally spot-on, and oftentimes their English was superior to my own; non-native English speakers tend to use far less slang and abbreviations than those who speak English from birth. Which was one of the reasons I improved my own online English. So again: whether or not you choose to make the effort of speaking clearly and correctly is entirely up to you. Which does not change the fact that you are NOT using proper English, and determining what is and is not proper is NOT up to the speaker; your intent might be understood, but your communication has certainly not been succesfull. There are rules and logic to every language, and setting those rules aside does not make them ineffective; instead, the very rules and logic you scoff at only serve to make you appear uneducated and lazy. I will add, after that last bit, that this is not a personal attack. That is merely an explanation of why people will be increasingly less inclined to pay attention to you if you persist in your lackadaisical attitude towards clear communication. Sure, we can understand you, generally. However your posts are honestly a pain to read through, and if they continue to be as poorly written as they have been to this point, before too terribly long you're going to find that many people will simply ignore you. Again, not an attack, simply a fact observed from experience on the Internet. Cheers.

The pronoun "I" is always capitalized. We can see you are able to capitalize. - Give your post a read before you post it. Then you might catch extra or missing words (e.g. "i what i say"). Some take it too far and are just ignorant 「fluffernutter」tards since they never consider that english isn't a majority of the world's first language. And everyone makes mistakes so pointing out other's it pretty pointless. I'm constantly having to edit my posts due to fat finger syndrome. If I didn't it'd be unintelligible. I also rely heavily on spell check. I ain't prefect. ? However my post earlier was concerning the here at home aspect(U.S.) where it deals with business and work. I need people who can enunciate their words correctly and that can read and write at at least a high school level. Because my drivers must be capable of dealing with customers in a precise and concise manner without misinterpretation or it could cost me business.

I worked as an EMEA support person for 14 years, now working for a Dutch company where the official business language is English. When communicating with customers (90% European) with various mother tongues I did & do them the courtesy of not using any slang, dialect or colloquialisms. If I received a message that was confusing because of grammar, I wouldn't generally correct the grammar but ask a question for clarification. It doesn't stop me taking the piss occasionally if I think the recipient will find it funny too. What irks a little is when someone jumps on a non-native speaker when they are making the effort to communicate. Give them a break and maybe meet them halfway. Bashing them is the sort of thing that will scare away members from offering opinion or advice because someone decides to deride what they say just because of a spelling mistake or clumsy grammar (which makes perfect sense in their own language when literally translated) Peace
