Forgive me if this thread is redundant but I need to know if I should buy an Ancile or are resources best used elsewhere. The upgrade times are crazy so I need to choose which items to raise in power carefully.

Most commonly: "Pothead" Leo - a poor mans version of: "Ancilot" Lancelot with an Ancile Look at "Frunobulax' rambling robot roundups (aka Analysis list)" -->And look under Leo and Lancelot?

Yes most definitely. If thrown on a Lancelot, it can devastating. It just takes the punishment from almost a whole db salvo.

As others here have stated, On certain builds particularly the Lancelot, it is a Meta "standard" once you hit Expert League and is super common from there on up. At one time I was running 3 of them just because of how tough they are. I still keep 2 in hangar all the time and will even run one on my Ember/Fury for added durability over running just weapons.

Note however that you can also get them from the events (with a substancial, but within reason, grinding), in case you prefer to use the gold elsewhere. I got two of them already from the events and I still do not have a lancelot to put them on...

Having been squashed by GuitarGuy and his clan many times, I can attest to the capabilities of well-piloted Ancilots.

I actually bought one before I opened slot 5 as I was getting hammered by rockets. They are great to go hunting for those annoying missile bots too

As many have mentioned, Ancile is a common existence in Expert league and up. Most matches you'll see at least 3 Ancile or even more at the start. Even though RDB and DB salvos can deplete your ancile quickly, it still provides you that one chance to find cover and recharge. (unless you're being raided by 3 haechis with orkans of course).
The Ancile is a permanent staple to my Lancelot, suits my playstyle, and give my Ancilot teammates an extra bit of juice when fighting off RDB or other ballistic builds.
Your playstyle and preferences may vary, see what works best for you, and good for it.
In other news, always good to see a bright blue bubble, better than nothing!

It is a good weapon you could have. I suggest winning it from the event. I recently got my first lance and it put it straight on top with 2 tarans and it is a good bot for my hangar

Worthy, yes.
I suggest you try to acquire it through the current and upcoming event task though. If you get both, purchasing a third is quite unnecessary.

The Ancilot is a terrific build - costly and takes time but its a staple bot in my hangar, only coming out now and then when I'm strictly seeking the added damage of an extra heavy hardpoint for whatever reason. Learn to corner shoot and provide cover for your non-ancile friends and remember, the Orkan will still rip through it with enough sustained fire so try to keep 310-350M with Tarans to prolong the life of the bot.

I like to think of an ancile as giving your bot the ability to regenerate.

Only really good Ancile build is Lancelot.
Leo, Natasha, Carnage and Raijin, as well as Inqu I suppose, all are kinda novelties when used with Ancile. They are decent, but in the end Ancile just takes away too much firepower, while leaving the bot still vulnerable towards energy weapons. It works with Ancilot despite losing firepower, because then the bot is protected against everything (except Ember), and because both Tarans and Orkans (and I believe also Storms and Shocktrains) are really very very good weapons, compared to their light or heavy counterparts, so having just 2 medium weapons is still quite "enough" firepower (as any Rog or Kumiho pilot can also tell).
