Forget about Griffins they are obsolete go for Inquisitor that's the new meta of the game that too for 300 $ 'Only' ... with the purchase you will get an ingame guide from pixo about how to become a hero from zero using only Kbots and Inquisitor. Weird I posted that ages ago?! Now run two (9/9) and love the Griff. You got to work out how to play them. Of course meta is changing everything True that. Still, for us poor souls a Griffin is the best all around bot to be had. Cheap, versatile, using one of the most useful abilities in War Robots, boasting serious firepower, albeit very fragile.

I'm admitting right up front I didn't read all the responses, so I apologize if I'm just being repetitious. I'm not a great pilot, but over time how I use the Griffin has adjusted a bit.
At first I kinda treated 'em like a hopping Patton. I thought they were a jump out and blast 'em kinda thing. I thought they'd simply out DPS my opponent. Then I learned they are soft. Pop, pop, pop for a Plasmahad. So, I started using the jump to run away. That worked much better, but it still lacked any real bite. Now a DB Griffin is my #1 bot. I'm not going to comment on the PDB Griffin, which is a close second, 'cause it's handled a bit differently.
For me it's used for specific surgical strikes. I save the jump for combinations...I'm not good with words, so I dunno how else to describe it. When I'm moving across the field with my DB I'm doing two things: Trying to make sure every red box is behind something and moving towards the closest location with both reds and either cover, or a breaking of sightlines within a jump distance. Then, I just try to anticipate bot pathing and set myself up on an intercept. Once I get to the right position I'm typically presented a few common options.
Full exposure and the need to walk back after firing. This is the least friendly and usually reserved for when there's no safe option to relocate, or the need warrants the risk. Most of the time when I step out and fully expose I'm in a flanking position. Then I just lead them slightly while walking in the same direction towards cover, hopefully.
Another is the poptart. No explanation needed, just don't forget to time it to avoid snipers.
There's the super fun jump at the red for the kill. This is actually more dangerous than I used to think. Too often this leaves one defenseless and under fire. I only do this if I'm sure I can take them and get clear, or I can take them and their buddy. This touches on another skill I consider core to any moves, but I'm not going to digress and I'm sure I'm not the best to try and get deep with tactics and stuff.
My favorite though is to set up for a crossing jump from one clear point to another. What I called a combination, because I'm attacking with a built in defensive move. This with well positioned leading, or trailing is the most dangerous attack I know how to make. I've learned to take a quick look at my placement before I make my move, so I don't end up bad. Sounds nice and simple jump from one safe spot to another while strafing (dunno how to spell) a full, or near full load on a target. Don't care if I kill. Lots of damage done. Always lock the target for these types of moves. On good matches I can go to the end with just the DB Griffin and still take #1/#2 damage.
I dunno...I hate trying to give advice sometimes, 'cause there are betters. Hopefully this helps a little.

My Griffin is a Stuka, LV 7 Orks, LV 7 Aphids The Stuka is a great bot for AMBUSHING AND SUPPORT, but the griffin in general is just like a carnage. Pilot it like an ambusher and hit and run robot. That's what it is best at. Although the description for the grifin says the jump is used to CLOSE IN on enemies, Which is super fun in a Stuka. Unload those aphids and Orkans mid air and look like a 「deteriorated bum-bum」 at the same time. .. That's my input, but you probably got the answer you needed. Stop recycling old threads. The game has changed so much that most information that old is outdated. (Even though the Griff may be the rare exception.)

There"s a lot of nuances to effectively pilot a griff. Let me detail each one. WALK - POUNCE - DESTROY. You're welcome. Haha, That says it all! pilot Moby_dic, if you find the Griffin too slow, then maybe consider a Rogatka. Less firepower, but way more speed and mobility. If piloted well, and some luck, you can take on and take out just about anything up to a Raijin. I always have trouble with Raijins in my orkan Rog simply because the Raijin has so much freaking hp, and in bastion mode, with the new buff, I can't take more than a couple of hits before I start feeling the effects. Sure, there are times I can play the round robin with one, but whenever I'm running for a red beacon, all I can think is "please don't respawn in a Raijin!". Out in the open, a freshly spawned thunder Raijin means death to any blue trying to steal the beacon. Even a full load from my DB Griffin isn't enough to kill a Raijin out right. Me, my DB Griffin is like my throwaway bot. I'll respawn in it if I need to take out a specific annoying bot, or if I need to quickly melt a red that is trying to steal a beacon I was just defending. Then, if it survives, I'll go searching for the next target, and as ezekielcrow says, "walk, pounce, destroy" and then be destroyed... Someone grabbed a necro post of mine. I run two Griffs and now love them...what a difference a year and 1500 wins makes

I disagree, especially for noob players like myself the griff is a universal solder, be patient play to it's strengths and it will reward you. I'm currently levelling up some punishers to put on a 4th Griff to join my plasma, DB and RDB. After seeing how levelled up punishers strip away ancles in seconds from beyond the reds weapons ranges ......
