That's more than enough time for Pix to gauge whether those who are up in arms are actually serious and have the will to maintain the cause.

Interesting and very in line with my thoughts as well.
It's good that you mention that the new BM with components, on the principle, is not necessarily a bad idea. That's very in line with what I said here, this system allows you to grind your way to a goal and generally spread rewards much more evenly between players than the first version. Some people say you had a better chance to get a Dash in the first version but it's only speculation, reality is that nobody actually have numbers to back-up that claim. For all we know you may have only 0.1% chance per month at a Dash with the first version and that would give you an average of 83 years just to get one. Without numbers it is impossible to know which system was statistically better but there is only one thing which is sure, a system that will share resources (=> components) is on the principle a much better system than a system that will randomly give nothing to 99% of the players and everything to a lucky 1%.
Now obviously, and we will all agree here, it would suck if you need to grind forever years to get a Dash. There is a lot of speculation here but I am still waiting for the final product before drawing conclusions. I still hope Pix will be wise enough to understand they need to be reasonable in the rules they set.
Lastly, it's also interesting that you mention the MM. It always come back to this problem, really. If the MM would not mix leagues, a Diamond player would not have much risk of facing max hangars, Dashes hangars, or in the future, MkII hangars. In itself it's not necessarily bad if Pix allows to go MkII, what would be bad is if those MkII players start to face level 8 hangars. That's why MM will become even more important than in the past.
Generally, I'm very in line with your thoughts. Let's see how Pix will react to adversity in the coming months.

Enjoyed the article. Well written.
When Dask MK1 was out for testing. The Dash was a leap forward with a slight pause after completion, not this slide across glass at warp speed. This would be a good place to revert all dahses and also the 1 dash per. No build up.
After they changed that it was OP the whole way,. Nd they kept going.

A great article! I almost missed it. Since I usually forget to check the stickies. This game is not MMORPG, going on a journey and adventure and finding magical rare swords or holy armors, and you keep killing mobs hoping for a good drop and accumulating gems/gold so you can buy/trade the stuff you need and upgrade it. War Robots shooter game requires skill with tactical and strategical aspects. You need to plan months in advance to which robot+weapens you going to upgrade and what role it will play in your hanger. Maybe there should be a trading system (In game economy), where players could trade their robots/weapons for gold/silver etc.. On my opinion, the worse thing is the matching system, I find that I am matched for ~5 games with lvl10+ level players and I hardly do 200k dmg. And later I am matched for another ~5 games with starter players using light robots. In both cases, the outcome of the match is known and its no longer fun to play. Please hear this youtuber:

Very well written, Dredd. I like your stuff. I guess I'm among the freeloader crowd, as I've not spent the first dime on War Robots, but over the span of about 2 years I've managed to build a hangar capable of contributing at the Champion level.
If P2P is the only way to get a Dash or Inquisitor (or even a WW bot, Tempest or Scourge), then I'll have to do without. I don't complain about the price of the new toys, nor do I begrudge Pix for making a buck. I am a Capitalist. The "fair" price is whatever the market will bear. There is a balance that must be struck between value and cost for a company to survive however, and Pix may have over reached a bit with this latest expansion. Time will tell.
I believe I have a simple and workable solution to the tanking / clubbing cycle that plagues the lower leagues with brutally unfair match ups and the upper leagues with missing players. Simply deny battle rewards to players who drop more than 1 full league rank below their maximum rating. For example, max rank of Master 3 drops below Expert 3 gets no battle reward til they get back to Expert 3. ZERO, ZIP, NADA. No gold, no silver, no keys, no anything ( except League Points so they can climb back to the ranks they belong in ). If some do it for the lulz, then lulz is all they should profit.
Carry on, sir!

Well written and considered content. Thank you Dredd.
My concern overall is that Pixonic do not appear to listen (particularly over the last 6 months). Feed back (both positive and negative) has been given through a number of mechanisms: - The player/ developer roundtable earlier this year
Test server responses - Moderators from this forum on an ongoing basis
- War Robots based YouTubers
- Player in game reports (e.g. tankers etc.)
Any interaction response from them appears to be the "tell them what they want to hear without telling them too much" philosophy and then they go ahead and do their own thing based on whatever business case they are following. The issues that they do address are minimal to say the least and do not appear to be to the benefit to the core of the game (e.g. match maker, tanking/fading, lag). In some instances the analogy I come up with is like having a car with a clapped out engine which is also leaking oil but we'll give it a wash and put four new tyres and rims on it to improve it.
If you want to look for a Silver lining I suppose a take away (for me) is that I think the bar has been lowered to the point that, with few exceptions, the only direction can be up.

Read the whole thing.... awesome job man! I totally agree with you. I think they should put all their efforts towards a mass expansion and rebalancing. To me: this means building a dozen new bots , weapons and maybe even a new type of upgradable perks that can be equipped to weapons (example: extended mag , fire dmg , slight range increase ,etc.) and as they add all this new content they rebalance the current weapons and bots... (to me this looks like perhaps adding 3 mph to a fury or making the Galahad more durable... etc.) My point being: if they put a massive expansion on the game AND MAKE SURE TO RUDUCE THE GAME BACK TO 3 FORMS OF CURRENCY ONLY (silver , gold and modules) then the roars of the community that are currently burning the game would find themselves In a whole new world... it’s hard to be mad when you change the complete ecosystem of the game to the point where every single player has to redefine for themselves what works and what doesn’t... this puts everyone back at a even playing field , all the while keeping the status of each player current by making their bots current despite big changes (this has been a large issue in the past... example being fury’s) if you add lots of bots but don’t make them all ridiculously expensive then you give the ENTIRE community something new. No one will be fighting for a single meta anymore but rather each person will find a bot they think would work and move towards that. Of course it will eventually shake out to where there is certain set ups that will work best (like Russian DB Griffs and ancilots) but that is unavoidable. People flock to what works. But if you blurr the line of “the new shiny meta”by giving lots of options then the game will continue to be what it is...with of course some massive changes, but will resurrect components of the game that have been lost by the recent bad decisions.... And it will bring a new appeal to the game that will draw curious crowds This of course would require some time The only way pixonic could pull off such a big move is to be totally transparent about it and be more receptive to the test servers. (The chances of them doing this are slim to none tho, because the cash grab from introducing a single new meta is no doubt immense But the cash grab from such a daring move wouldn’t be nonexistent either, but far less aggravating) Also...just an idea...like u said; changing the cosmetics of the game would help big time... they should even make it to where you can custom paint job your bot.. you could use symbols, letters, overlays, numbers , Matte paints, metallics, camouflages, etc. and not only that but you will have the painted symbol of your clan on your profile and would also be able to copy and paste it on your bot...BUT IT WOULD NEED TO BE PRIMARILY FREE This would give the game a huge creative sense of identity to clans , players and sqaud teams... this would work great with the current direction pixonic is going and has voiced in media with the new custom matchmaking and clan v clan battles

I do not know about you guys but my wife would have my nuts in a sling. I would have to do a year's worth of foot massages to drop that much money. I do not understand why they went for this as soon as everyone has dash and scourge needed nobody will buy anything else again. For myself I am simply glad I only put 8 months and 20 bucks. Sooner or later a better clone game will come and I will dump pix fast. They running out of ideas and it's only a matter of time before content releases can not be topped with better stuff.
Thanks pix now I have to find a new time waster for my father and me to play.

Great write up.
Pix must have a huge amount of data to be able to use these strategies. I reckon they know exactly what they are doing and the outcomes they'll receive.
I mean if you are confident that the market will pay $300. And they obviously are. Why wouldn't you from a business perspective - I can see the bean counters at HQ saying - that's exactly why we forked out $11m for you guys. Turn in the tap$.
Sad but true.

Maybe a bit too long, but well written nevertheless Anyway, one point I think is missing: Players get attached to their hangars, nursing/upgrading those bots in a year-long progress. (There is a abig emotional difference to the players that are new to this game, see they need to open their wallet to compete, and may choose to continue or to leave.) Human nature dictates to defend owned property, and in this case a natural instinct is to pay up, because this is the only thing how we can save our beloved hangar that we nursed with so much grinding. Especially for people like me, who were finally getting within range of that precious 12/12 TT hangar (at 10/10 it seems very much in range). So that "defend your property" instinct makes it even more difficult for me, and for many other members, to close the book on the game. As I have voiced before , the Pixonic strategy fits very well in a scheme to extract as much money as possibe from the current player base, while accepting the death of the game itself. A game like this needs a large player base, it needs those f2p players, both to provice competition for the whales, and of course to make the game popular enough to attract the whales in the first place. With basically all recent changes making life miserable for f2p players (outclassed by premium robots) and new players (clubbed), and the very obvious fact that this is part of the company strategy (Pixo had plenty of time to do something about the matchmaking/clubbing), the only logical choise is that Pixonic accepts a shrinking player base and the eventual demise of War Robots, in order to rake in cash now. It's a shame, this game had so much potential - I think that commercially this is the wrong strategy, because this game could have become a cash cow for many years to come. But who am I to judge that.

Great article!
Really waiting for workshop 2.0 (Russel stated as coming 2018).
Big picture I like some bots being rare, but I want one too! I think having them only a tiny bit better than silver/gold/WSP bot is fairer. 10,000 components is kinda crazy to grind to.
Ideas for revenue: not just skins, but coloured effects, blue booster rockets on your jump/dash bot, special tracer rounds on your kinetic weapons, unique colours for their gekkos etc. This for people to spend their spare gold on and personalize your bots.

I actually have a new mission in this game: find more Inquisitors to toast! I seriously cannot believe how underwhelmed I was by my first encounter with one. Sure, it stomped on my Jesse in the middle of its aphid reload, but then melted under DB fire quicker than I expected. Its fun knowing that I'm toasting a $350 bot with something I built on silver and some time.
I think Pix is in trouble and I think like most companies that ONLY look at the bottom line and the money that rolls in, they don't see that their in trouble. They will wake up one day and wonder, why is no one spending money anymore? Sure, they will blame competition, in the form of Battle of Titans and they will respond by putting all their premium content on sale, which will just piss off their cash cows. If they actually took feedback seriously, then they would have a chance in the long term. On one hand, it's refreshing to see a former communist country take such a capitalist approach to business, but on the other, they've taken it a bit too far and they will learn the hard way.
But...
I'm sure by the time things die off for War Robots, they will release War Robots 2, and the whole cycle will start over again.

Excellent. Read the whole thing.
Love this description.
Io am going to make a final statement about my feelings towards the paying player, P2W and F2P because I am sick of talking about it. I may actually put this in its own thread. I know the last thing we need is ANOTHER thread about P2W vs. F2P but I feel I owe an apology to some paying players and I would like to elaborate a little on what it is I'm upset about. For now I will post it here as it falls under a lot of what is mentioned in the article
I know I have expressed strongly my discontent for players who are dropping such huge sums of money on the game. I would like to clarify that I am not against those who spend on the game. I realize very much that the paying player helps fund the very game that I can't afford to spend much money on.
My beef is with the players that pay the outrageous prices they are asking and load up on a 5 dash hangar. I think it's overly excessive. It's obvious that the dashes are at least slightly over-powered and I feel that if someone feels they need a hangar full of them to compete, they must be compensating for skill.
It's hard for me to blame Pix for setting those prices when people are willing to pay them - and when people are willing to pay them, Pix is thereby reassured that they can keep asking such ridiculous prices. Therefore, I have no problem, and even appreciate those paying players who have premium every month or spend the equivalent, bought a Lance or two or taken part in daily "deals". I draw the line when they are letting (encouraging even)Pix to get away with charging ludacris prices and/or have a hangar full of stuff that is virtually over-powered and virtually unattainable to everyone.
If I had an unlimited amount of RM to spend on the game, I still would NEVER show Pix it's okay to charge that much nor would I EVER consider running a hangar full of over-powered bots because it would make me feel as if it were to easy. I like to rely on skill and earning my kills and damage and I would feel as though it were not fair to others to be unstoppable. I have no desire for God-like status either.
I love this too. I don't care about nor necessarily even want a dash. Would be nice to get to try piloting one for a while but I am perfectly happy playing the hangar and bots and weapons I have. I just don't want to constantly be facing others who have a hangar full of them.

Your Win loss ratio is going to remain close to 50% regardless of what you are running. Get a Dash. Don't get a Dash or Inquisitor. Who cares. It's still fun to play.

Nice read. One angle I think is missing is, how little new F2P content, especially bots and weapons, has been released lately (during last year). Pay-only powerful Dashes and Scourge would be easier to tolerate, if Tempest was available with Au/WSP. Pay-only Inquisior would be easier to accept if for example Kumiho was available with Au/WSP. Etc.

Me included, as I got some when I decided to reward Pixo for almost a year of playing on my new fb account. However, had I known the new pricing policy, I wouldn't have done it.

Is there any sort of official response from Pixonic to the current thoughts of the players? Any sort of acknowledgement? I did a quick search yesterday for anything from Pix on the current state of the game and came up with nothing.
Perhaps someone here knows of something?

IOS update has dropped. Prices in Australian dollars through Apple for component purchase are: Ember - $239 Tempest - $124 Inquisitor - $480 All 3 kbots are the same price - $359 Scourge - $128
i had three quick spins of the bronze chest and got 5 components for Kumiho, 30 for ember and 15 components for Inquisitor

Anyone else think it's ironic that they sold this update as intended to reduce the number of all of these crazy currencies, so instead they introduced a new currency for each bot? I thought they would throw players a bone and let them transfer WSP, Au or AG for component purchases, but, no, you need to buy all components or get lucky with spins. A scourge/ember inquisitor is, what, $1000? Oligarch children will love it but they should worry about a video game that caters to children that requires such large sums to play, especially when the game exchanges real $$ for electronic bits through a gambling-style interface.

I bet all keys aren't made the same...
Keys that are purchased will have better result in black market, than keys that were won in the game. I wouldn't be surprised the closer you get to component item the less likely you will win components for that item. This will entice players that are close to buy the rest with cash. Just like when the superchest meter slows down when you are closer to the end goal. This will get both the players that are addicted to gambling and players that will purchase an item at a reduce rate.
