Nice, I like it. I think you may want to find a stronger term than 'pesky' though. Imagine these knights killed your brother, three of your best friends, and destroyed the neighborhood your grew up in. Know they're trying to kill you. Pesky probably isn't a strong enough term for how someone would feel about them.

Here is my Chapter 1.2 of my War Robots fiction series! "Medevdev was seated together with his teammates inside their soundproof booth. They can clearly see the positive cheers of their fans at the left side of the hall. They were confident that they can get the win despite the Korean’s strong reputation. The Russians immediately started by going in a coordinated wave, with the team dividing into three pairs that operated at close capacity. They were aware that the Koreans liked to pressure flanks, so they decided to stick together and operate within the ranges of their rockets and plasma weaponry, creating a defensive umbrella." UPDATE! UPDATE! Here is Chapter 1.3! "The screen showed multiple angles of the players capping beacons, killing robots and executing jiggle peeks on the map. Both of the teams were playing at an extremely high level and the crowd was raving about it. In the audience, Jesse “kingslayer99” Carillo, a tall, lanky guy using glasses, was the renowned vice-captain of the Philippine national team. He was known as the “Filipino bonjwa” for his mastery of the metagame in War Robots." Read more: blog.dreamslayer28.com/war-robots/chapter-1-3-end-of-the-dead/

ANOTHER UPDATE! "With a stern voice that brimmed with finality, the Russian team leader said, “Yes, comrades, we are already down, but we will not go down without fighting! If your bot is below thirty percent, eject it and get a new one. We will try to spawn trap them.” “YES, CAPTAIN!” was the unified shout of the team. Win or lose, the Russian side was going to their destinations as one. On the Korean side of things, they were laughing at their fortune. They knew that they already had the game on paper." i have read 5 chapters so far, and what i liked the most was your intro on chapter one.
Have you ever thought narrating a story from a soldier/mercenary/real mech pilot competitor alongside this narrative on the gamer perspective?

Not yet, for three reasons:
1. I'm still preparing an outline for that kind of perspective. 2. I still have no idea whether I should tie it to this current text or start a new one altogether. 3. I try to research about the best approach to the text as well as historical data on how soldiers/mercenaries/mech pilots live. This means looking through books, articles and even gaming texts - this is in order to make them a little bit authentic.
This is all because I am trying to stick to this approach: When I write fiction, the thing is that while places and experiences should be authentic as possible, the content itself should make readers look at the story from another perspective...and make them imagine different, if not, similar worlds when they read the text.
I hope this answers your question.
